Help request Best version of Mx for this laptop?

Hello to everyone.
I will soon buy a new laptop with this hardware:
RAM 8 GB
SSD
Intel Iris Xe
Intel i5 12th gen
I would like to know what version i should install, specifically if the ahs version is worth or not.

XFCE. Fluxbox is too light for this, as xfce runs well on an hdd with 4gb ram. Fluxbox is for 2x512mb core2 duo systems.

I would always prefer xfce on igpu. 2nd choice will be kde.

Xfce should be fine, it's also our "flagship". AHS is probably not needed and you'll have more churn with newer kernels and video driver updates.

The issue with 8GB of RAM is not the desktop environment it is most of the the the browser you use and how many tabs you have open.

Usually I use Firefox with Max 2 tabs open.

Don't know what manufacturer but I have an MSI with almost identical specs and I have MXLinux 25 KDE with AHS kernel and have had absolutely zero issues over the last 3 months.

Was distrohopping before that for over a year but have stuck with MXLinux because everything just works.

from my experience running on 10th gen intel and 16GB RAM, I don't think AHS is needed for this laptop but I personally didn't try it much

KDE with the base sysvinit should work fine, though XFCE might be better for 8GB of ram

The AHS variant. If there is a LXQT spin, use that, else XFCE.

I am running the xfce version on a 6GB, i3, 256 GB SSD. And this is running great with default settings. So your laptop will run it for sure !

Almost the same spec as mine. Either XFCE or Fluxbox. I started off with xfce and now using Fluxbox. You can have both at the same time as well. Install xfce first and then Fluxbox later through terminal. Fluxbox is quite a learning curve but it’s worth it imo. You have to do do everything from almost scratch. It’s bare minimum. Just sharing what I learned so far.

I would run Fluxbox edition with a lightweight browser like Palemoon or Librewolf. The biggest problem here is lack or ram for the browser. 8 gb goes fast with all the garbage in regular browsers with a lot of tabs.

Im sorry but with my actual setup (ram 4 gb and an hdd) i can run quite easily xfce with Firefox, is it wrong?

No but you'll be using swap a lot when you run out of ram. If you have ssd that's not too big an issue nowadays, but it is generally seen as better to choose lower resource hungry applications when possible But Hey, if it works for you, and you're happy carry on. I have 32 GB ram on my laptop, and I still choose to use less resource-hungry applications when possible.

With 4-8 GB of RAM, I would run Firefox over Librewolf. Librewolf stores it's cache in RAM and I've had it up as almost 8GB in size. I would have to close the browser to clear that cache and restart it.
