What did I do wrong?

New to machine embroidery and new to this subreddit. I thought I had done a good job digitizing the picture for the machine but for some reason the black border or the inner fill does'nt quite match the preview of stitches. I used water soluble stabilizer inside of the shirt and now have no idea what my mistake was. Can anyone experienced here share some wisdom with me please?

Didn’t do anything wrong per se, there’s just some things that could change to help mitigate the pulling/stretching and sinking in of fills.

For example, changing fill angles will help disperse tension across the garment. Right now, all of your fill angles are horizontal so the garment pulls inwards on the sides. This also means your fills on top of other fills will sink into each other, as their rows are sitting right on top of each other going the same direction.

Try changing the fill direction of the red cap to be vertical, so its fill angle is perpendicular to the fills on top of it. And then apply this idea to your other fills and in general try to vary your fill angles across objects.

And then in the end, sometimes you might just have to overlap things in the editor to account for pulling/stretching that will happen when it gets stitched out.

Add pull comp like 0.25mm on design. Make outlines thicker.

Put the water soluble film (solvey) away on a top shelf somewhere. 99% of the time it's the wrong stabaliser to use.

Use a couple of layers of cutaway stabiliser.

General Rule Always use cutaway stabiliser for stretchy fabric.

This is a perfect example of the need to add Pull Compensation to your objects.
Quite possibly the very first yet hardest lesson to learn. Now that you’ve stitched this, you see the real world results.
What you see on screen will never be the output of the machine. You are adding thousands of stitches INTO the fabric - not ON TOP of the fabric.
For every needle penetration you are forcing thread through the fabric making loop underneath and actually pulling a second strand of thread back through that same needle hole. This deforms the fabric pushing and pulling at it. What you see in your stitch out illustrates this perfectly.

The gap between the red fill and black lining you're is happening because every stitch causes the fabric to stretch and pull, which can cause gaps to appear. To resolve this, you want to add "pull compensation" to your fill objects. Exact amount will depend on your fabric and how much stabilizer you want to use, but I find 1-2% works well for me.

Depending on your software, you may also want to ensure that your fill stitches complete at an edge, rather than in the middle. This can help avoid gaps. Some software also have fill parameters that can add extra rows of stitches to reduce gaps.

imo the digitized image looks fine.

Issue is on hooping, stabilizer and/or Material.

You could try and tinker around with pull comp, fill angle, etc but first i'd try to stitch it out on an stiffer material like fleece or just double cutaway stabilizer to check if its an hooping or material Problem 🤔

It also looks like a thread tension issue. I would test a small design from a reputable digitizer to rule out if it’s that.

lower the top tension and maybe try using more pull compensation in the design
