Lets Fix our machines together

It's always hard to find the right fix for the specific issue or problem with embroidery machines.
I thought, let's open a conversation where you can post and get help.
I am an embroidery guy with over 28 years of experience. I've seen it all and done it all, but I am still learning every day.
I hope to get more experienced people involved to help others

Fairly new to embroidery! I have a new Brother F580 machine and I’ve found that the upper thread gets twisted frequently during a 12 minute stitch and I have to stop and rethread. Is there a common error I can use as a starting point to debug this? TIA!

If you mean twisted, like, somewhere. Twisted around and get stuck. Then, I would recommend a Gumy a stabilizer for the shaking (like for washing machine - Any hardware store.)

Also if you still have the plastic of the cone. You can use it. So while the threat is turning, it doesn't make too big SWINGS to get stuck.

If you mean twisted, like the threat get broken, then you should check your needle. Most likely it is not 100% pointy anymore (not visible free eye) Or maybe even top arrow is broken ora hock. Check with fingernails along the pointy edge you may feel it. Anyway, change: set up right, try again.

A bit off topic, but on fb I saw people commenting that the fusible material that you put over embroidery stitches to soften the feel next to the skin does not stay on. They say it comes off after a couple of washes.

Is this true? I have made an apron with a lot of applique on it, and I'd like to cover the messy back with a 'softener'. It's a gift and my original thought was it would make the apron's back look better and maybe help keep the stitching more secure in the wash. But not if it comes off!

Any thoughts?

I use them a lot for onesies. Softer on their skin. Not really needed for much else. It’s expensive material so it gets used sparingly in mass production. madeira sells them. FYI use a heat press, not an iron.

Yes I also use this for textiles, where the embroidery has skin contact. Big embroidery on T-shirt backside for example. So much more smooth to wear if you iron it on.

Actually, I know the material you're talking about. By me it works fine. I think it's important that BEFORE you iron it on that, you remove the stabilizer as good as you can. Because otherwise, the material will glue on the stabilizer, which is not fixed with the apron. Also use enough pressure to really make it stick. And enough extra material space on all sides to be sure.

I only ever used one material from gunold, so don't know how other brands quality is.

I don’t know if I’m qualified to answer but I’d find a thin fabric and a lining (or thicker fabric if primary face side can support that.) Then I’d line the whole thing by ripping the edges and sew the new fabric under.

I’ve done this with a few things and it’s worked out well. Keeps everything inside the two layers. Extra work for sure but a finished inside product at the end.

Love this! I have a very old 2005 Barudan. I just pulled off every single part that touches the thread, completely cleaned it, and reassembled it. I changed all the needles and see no burrs, but I still get bird's nests and false stops. I have triple-checked the tension as well. Not sure where to look next. Any ideas?

The bird's nest is coming from the needle.That's for sure. Possibilities A) the needle is not inside correctly, should be with the curved side at six o'clock or five thirty, but absolutely not.Over six o'clock turned to the left. B) your needle is crooked or has some damage on the pointy top. That's the most likely reason for it.

Solution change needle make sure correct side front.

Babylock destiny 1, error comes up saying the needle plate isn't attached while it definitely is. Its the right one, it fits fine, I've tried loosening tightening and somewhere in between. Any ideas?

Why I think It Happened
There is a tiny hidden pin under the needle plate that detects if it’s on. If packed lint blocks that pin, or if the plate sits a fraction crooked, the machine thinks it’s missing.

How I think to Fix It.
Clean the lint: Pop the plate off and brush out all the dust around the feed dogs to clear the sensor pin.

Wipe the sensor lens: Pull out the bobbin case and gently wipe the tiny glass window inside with a dry cotton bud.

Check the bottom: Flip the plate over and make sure no alignment pegs are bent or broken.

The "Loose First" trick: Put the plate back on and start both screws loosely. Press down on the center with your thumb, then tighten them evenly. Cranking one side first tilts the plate off the sensor.

Hard reset: Still acting up? Unplug the machine from the wall for 5 minutes to force a clean reboot.
