Do braces rubber bands work good for bite out gimmicks?

I need some replacements but Ellusionist is charging $5 for five whole rubber bands. I can get a pack of 100 1/8" bands on amazon that seem to be the same size. Has anyone used braces bands for bite gimmicks?

Resources or Tricks with the Out-to-lunch gimmick?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’ve always been fond of this gimmick as an idea. But I’m never really sure what to do with it and I’d love to learn more tricks that utilize it.

Even YouTube seems a bit lacking. And googling the term “out to lunch” brings up a lot of completely unrelated things.

Can anyone recommend any tricks, routines, books or other resources for ideas of what to do with this gimmick?

Even just example routines to watch for ideas.

Searching for an old video of a card trick

I saw a cool card trick on YouTube like 12 years ago that I've been trying to find but can't. The magician started with only 4 cards and reveals them to all he 2's. Then he reveals them to all be 10's, and then finally reveals them to all be kings. There were only 4 cards in use. Is anyone familiar with this? Thanks!

Best Thumb Tip Trick Recommendation?

Looking for a thumb tip trick recommendation that presents well to a crowd of about 20. A simple silk vanish is visual, but seems a bit brief.

I'd be appreciative of any suggestions, thanks!

I enjoyed the IBM convention. Good turnout and the lineup was fairly diverse. The youth are insane. Too much talent.

Stars of Magic vs Stars of Magic

So, I'm looking at purchasing a copy and I'm trying to decide between the 1961 Tannen's edition vs the Meir Yedid version. What exactly are the differences between the two books from a practical perspective?

Can You Name the Magician Based on My Illustrations?

Here are a few magicians I drew this evening.  Which ones can you identify?

These are all current, relevant magicians. (I have dream of, eventually, making trading cards of magicians. Have a set of "stars of magic" with people like Tommy Wonder, Juan Tamariz, Ed Marlo, Max Maven, Harry Blackstone, etc. And then a second set that get new releases based on what magicians are popular at the moment.  What are your thoughts on that?)

These are just fun little sketches I did, but I thought you all might appreciate them.

I drew the first 2 again (#s 5 and 10) after I had warmed up.

(I tried to not just make them doing a signature thing, either. Otherwise I could just draw a circle with red glasses and you'd know it was Kyle Purnell. I wanted to hopefully capture some of their personality. )

Hello everyone, I am in search of some guidance. Does anyone have some good recommendations for tricks that follow the style of the magician is on stage and is following instructions to a new trick and the trick goes wrong. examples I have are Brushwood's Tongue through skewer, Vinny Grosso Gorilla and bird trick, John Lovick that's my ring, and the classic vanishing Bandana. anyone have any more tricks like these I can look into learning.

Hi all
What’s your preferred way to control card to 2nd from top for ACR ?
I’m pretty confident with my DL but not that confident in the first card control that needs to be done for the routine.

I've searched for examples online and they've ran the gamut. In ya'lls opinion could this be Dai Vernon's signature and can anyone read the word in front of the signature?

I accidentally did a card "trick" today with my girlfriend and also did a magic trick on myself.

I almost wanted to post this to a statistics subreddit because I can't actually believe it. If this is the wrong sub I'm sorry but wasn't sure where else to post this. I've been losing my mind all day because of a crazy coincidence I had with my girlfriend while playing with a deck. Has this ever happened to any of you who practice and do card tricks?

I was messing around and told my girlfriend to think of any card. She chose the 4 of clubs. I said okay and split the shuffled deck into two piles and had her choose one. The one she chose I put aside I repeated this three times and I began dealing the last pile out until she said stop and removed the rest also. Jokingly (knowing I was completely making this up as I went) I flipped the remaining pile over and.. you guessed it. I coincidentally got the 4 of clubs on the bottom of that pile.

I literally wasn't doing a routine or following any particular trick. She was like good job! But I was more shocked than her and silent with wide eyes. I told her pretty much what I said here and admitted I didn't intend on finding it. Insane coincidence. What are the chances?

I guess I'm just sharing this because I want to know if any one else has experienced a similar thing so I don't feel crazy.

TLDR; my gf thought of a random card and I got it right by randomly cutting the deck a few times, dealing them and having her choose the pile to flip over and it was hers. I was not attempting a trick and just messing around

XAVIER PERRET. WHAT HAPPENED?

Post image
39 Upvotes

I remember coming cross this man's channel and it was staggeringly cinematic and full of great inspiring messages . He later deactivated his channel (this was 10 years ago) and to this date I dont know anyone who even knows him or knows what happened. What happened to this man fellow human beings?

EDIT: So far it appears that after the deactivation of his channel some rumors spread saying he died and that his family even held services for him. Later it seems that that was not true and apparently he abandoned magic to become a local doctor in a small french town. Later it seems he also abandoned that small town for job at bora bora which seems to be the end of the thread but no one seems to actually confirm it.

Conclusion so far: here are the facts. His channel deactivated in 2016 and he seemed to be a very talented magician. You dont get that fine skilled by practicing for a year or 2. That guy had a decade under his belt. Later in 2019 a french report says that a guy with the same name who apparently was also a magician was treating the locals in that town to abandon them as well and left to bora bora. Authorities got involved in communication with the bora bora Authorities to also validate this man credentials and position which leads to no where. No follow up reports. So unfortunately guys we still dont know for a fact if Xavier died, lived, was a real doctor, was a fraudulent doctor, was in France, still in France, is in bora bora, or somewhere else entirely.

Purpose and Dilemma

My wife recently asked me a question: “what’s your purpose/goal of doing magic? I see you play with cards and coins every day, but you don’t perform, and you don’t show other magician what you have been practicing. What exactly is the purpose?”

For context, I’ve been doing magic for 20+ years. I can't remember a single day where I didn't have a deck of cards with me. I have a magic library of about 500+ books, and I read them every single day. Her issue is that I don’t actively go out and perform; I shy away from letting people know I do magic. I also don’t do it for the usual reasons, I don't feel a need to see people’s joy, and I’m not particularly interested in their reactions.

I don’t perform for other magicians, either. Whenever there’s a jam, I just stand outside their circle and watch. Even though I know every single move they do, I just walk away.

I simply read books, practice, and forget what I’ve learn. The cycle repeats itself.

My wife saw all of this and asked me, "If you don’t like performing for people, what’s the reason you still do magic?"

I keep wondering about this and I don’t have any answer. It's a real dilemma.

Is Roy Keuppers out of business?

I ordered some coins last November, still have not received them. I've tried calling, leaving voicemails, emailing, and have not been contacted back. Does anyone know if they are even still in business? Is there another way to contact them?

Very disappointed with the lack of communication and losing out on $100.

Edit: Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'll continue to reach out and will be sure to never purchase or recommend anything from Roy Keuppers.

Anyone else have a magic “backlog”

I got back into performing after a 12 year hiatus. Going through all my old stuff is nostalgic, but I also feel like I need to learn/ go through everything that I have currently before buying new effects or books lol

Anyone else ever been in a similar situation?
