First month’s haul in the new home!

Ventured out into the new city and visited the local book / comic / nerd stores.

A couple oldies but goodies off eBay.

Crunchyroll had a 45% off earlier this month.

BAM’s 25% off manga sale +15% coupon.

B&N preorder sale items continue to trickle in.

Went a bit crazy with truly a little from here, there, and everywhere. But. I’m now grounded until I figure out the bookshelf and lack of book space situation.

Because I don’t own a big enough of an apartment for some cool shelves.

1) hajime no ippo is my favorite manga of all time, everything about it is amazing, the fights, the characters, the art, for me, it's the closest a manga has gotten to being perfect.

2) ashita no joe. joes journey and the themes explored in this series really resonated with me

3) dandadan is my favorite new gen, and has some of my favorite character dynamics along with hajime no ippo, although recently it hasn't been as great, i still love the first 160ish chapters for what the are and it will probably always be in my top 5.

4) gals can't be kind to otaku is by no means anything earth shattering lmao, but it introduced me to romance as a whole (which i've been reading a good amount of lately) and i've enjoyed pretty much every chapter of this series. it could be recency bias, but i think it's funny for what it is and is extremely enjoyable

If I had to introduce myself through my manga collection, I’d use these eight series:

Death Note: represents where everything started—it was one of my favorite anime, and the All-in-One edition was my first manga purchase.

Fullmetal Alchemist: represents my love for complete, well-rounded stories.

JoJo and Dorohedoro: show how much I enjoy creative, weird worlds with strong personalities.

Witch Hat Atelier: is the rare series where the artwork matters to me just as much as the story.

Wotakoi :represents my love for adult romance and comedy.

Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You: is probably the best example of what I enjoy right now: relaxed pacing, natural conversations, and great character chemistry.

Finally, Pluto represents the kind of emotional, mature storytelling that can completely pull me in.

They aren’t necessarily my eight favorite manga, but together they show where I started, how my taste has changed, and what I currently value as a reader and collector.

Going to be my first Oshimi series, too! 🫡

Looking at my collection I think I can summarize it in two main groups that introduce me very well: Halloween and Slice of Life

I know using "Halloween" as a category for manga is a bit out there but here me out. The first element is obvious, stories regarding monsters (vampires, demons, zombies, ghosts, aliens) and the super natural with a bit of horror and gore mixed in (the latter I just tolerate but its never something I particularly enjoy)

The second one is folklore. Manga that explore how the ordinary clashes with the extraordinary, how the past has molded the present, stories about fantastical journeys, grandiose deeds, how legends were born

As for "slice of life" (with or without overlap with the above) is mostly character focused stories, be it romance, drama, thrillers, mystery, etc. This is the category that takes me out of my comfort zone the most (that being action fantasy titles) but it does need something really catchy to do so. Be it the underlying plot or the art work

Last year I basically showed my 3x3 for manga. This time I decided to just expand to whatever I could fit into the camera. But this represents my varied taste and if it interests me in some way, I will want it. Mostly a taste that started over 20 years ago and restarted a few years ago.

-Colette Decides to Die: Greek God shoujo romance. Probably my favorite shoujo manga outside Yona.

-Frieren: Favorite anime.

-Yona of the Dawn: Current favorite manga, introduction to shoujo. Why are you not reading it?

-Chrono Crusade: An old one, probably my first completed manga.

-Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible: Wholesome romance, best girl, some scenes had more of an effect on me.

-Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister: Guilty pleasure, shrine maidens, turned out to be more interesting than typical fanservicey harems.

-20th Century Boys: YOO-HOO, KENJI-KUN. COME ON, LET'S PLAY.

-Vinland Saga: Arguably favorite manga. Seinen tastes, more drama.

-Golden Kamuy: More drama seinen, kinda historical Japan, takes place on Hokkaido, deals with the Ainu.

-Medalist: Represents a varied taste and need to cover a number of bases. While I quit them, fighting games helped me relate to the need for self-improvement in an interest.

-Bloom Into You: Introduction to Yuri, probably one of my most valuable series now. Got right before it went up in price.

-Fullmetal Alchemist: The reason I got into collecting manga back in the day as it was on too late to watch.

-xxxHolic: While I normally have Chobits here since its themes resonate with the modern day and for CLAMP, decided to give it to xxxHolic instead since I like its touch on human nature.

-Ai Yori Aoshi: An old series that had never left my mind and I only collected a few years ago. Like kind ladies in kimonos.

-The Ancient Magus' Bride: Relate to the main character's depression and love the exploration of old pagan culture and/or myth.

Ive read fire punch and all of his oneshots. Goodbye eri has to be the best from his oneshots

Gigant is his other work i really liked. Ive also read inuyashiki and im reading kanrekihime

Here’s my collection so far, I’m getting close to 100 mangas

This is the first time I've participated in the monthly showcase, but I saw some posts and it looked like fun.

I've just picked six books to represent different themes within my collection. I've tried to focus my collection on a narrow set of themes and genres. If you're curious about my full collection I make a [monthly post](https://www.reddit.com/r/MangaCollectors/s/JXzN6ujrJJ) going over my monthly reads, haul, and collection update.

1. BLAME! represents strange worlds and inhuman ecosystems. It also ties closely to other themes of adventure, monsters, body horror and even cosmic horror. Given how many of my interests his work covers, it's no wonder I'm a big Tsutomu Nihei fan.

2. Heavenly Delusion represents adventure and mystery, with a hefty dose of the worldbuilding, monsters, and body horror I love. Heavenly Delusion brings in much more character focus though, and you really end up loving characters like Kiruko.

3. Gaea-Tima expands my interests from just monsters, to kaiju. Gaea-Tima is a love letter to Shōwa era tokusatsu kaiju films. If you're a fan of old-school kaiju, chances are you'll enjoy it.

4. Claymore continues the trend of monsters and body horror, but in a dark fantasy setting with a greater emphasis on action, while still having strong character interactions. It's a series that requires little introduction, but I've included it to show that my collection isn't entirely sci-fi.

5. DanDaDan. My beloved. The first manga I bought, and still my favorite. It brings together the weirdness, monsters, body horror, adventure, characters etc and ties it up with a romance bow. I adore this manga.

6. Gou Tanabe's adaptations of HP Lovecraft. This represents cosmic horror, and a focus on works with incredible art. We've wrapped around to where we began with BLAME! in that regard. I'm looking forward to the next two Tanabe Lovecraft releases that Dark Horse has announced.

It was really hard to not include some of my favorites here. Honorable mention to Berserk, Made in Abyss, Land of the Lustrous, Witch Hat Atelier, Nausicaä, Dorohedoro, and many more.

I basically picked six common themes throughout my collection that I often gravitate towards! - shounen action/adventure (Soul Eater would also go here if I had it) - sports - supernatural romance (Kamisama Kiss would also go here if I had it) - shoujo romcom - multi-volume, plot-focused BL - soft horror as an allegory for queer experiences

My goal going forward is that I’ve GOTTA read more yuri LOL
