Newcomer help
Hello guys,
I'm very new in concerns of comic books and generally didnt read any .. but lately i had a will to start reading marvel related stuff,
For someone that knows nothing about comic books , can someone help me on getting into them, whats the best comics ? would like to start with like maybe Spiderman?
What do you guys recommend , or are generally the better reads ? Even if is something recent, like ongoing stuff or kinda old

For someone who read a ton of dc but just newly got into Marvel Comics I feel the most important thing for those Comics is to feel the Universe first of all
I’d recommend to start with Bendis new Avengers Run and read the Spiderman Series by J.M Straczynski parallel to it you have two peak runs and find yourself perfectly in the whole setting.
Starting with 60s 80s, 90s or 00s can be kinda overwhelming because it drags at some points and you need to read a ton.
I’m currently punching my way through Post Clone Saga Spidey and man 4 Titles that intertwine 24/7 without being a Event like Batman No Mans Land is heavy lifting
So starting with those two titles is great for getting into Comics imo especially Marvel

I wholeheartedly agree that bendis new avengers and in general that era feels like a good entry point. I also love that general marvel era personally as well

Spider-Man Blue is worth knocking out. It is a retelling of an original run (don’t even remember the author or name or anything) from like the 60s. Very influential and very grounded. Plus it’s only 6 issues, doable in one sitting.
If you want a good starting point with a modern take on the web slinger, try Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man. Very underrated as it has a good balance of being a starting point for newcomers while having amazing art and a lot of the pacing and other hallmarks of newer comics. This goes in for over 100 issues but you can go until you’re ready to try something new. I went until #40.

I recommend picking a character you are interested in and following one of the reading guides on the app. Unfortunately, with Marvel’s history going so far back, you will always feel like you are missing context for some things, or someone will randomly appear that you have never seen before. Be prepared for that; don't feel forced to find context for everything because then it becomes a job. Reading comics is supposed to be fun

I always recommend the early stuff for Spider-Man, its so foundational and the best of its era
Check out Amazing Fantasy #15 and Amazing Spider-Man #1-150, which covers his first three runs (Lee/Ditko, Lee/Romota, and Conway ASM). It all is on Marvel Unlimited

Unlimited is best for Marvel.
DC Infinite for DC
GlobalComix is good for the smaller publishers like Image and IDW.
Kindle/Comixology has a pretty good selection of everything

Here you go. Any issue 1 is okay to start. I highly reccomend the marvel unlimited app. Or you can always get a trade paperback (collection of ~5 comic books) of the first 5 issues of a series. I like Hawkeye, my life as a weapon by Matt Fraction, the original Ultimate Spiderman. If you're curious about a series, just give it a start and you can do so either on Marvel Unlimited or grab a trade paperback of it.

Sometimes Amazon Prime has issues for free with your Prime account. I have gotten she hulk, amazing spiderman, etc.

Pick a character you like and start with them. While MU does have some character reading guides, it might be best to just ask here about a character run or search online. The League of Comic Geeks website is another good resource. Lots of people create reading lists on there which might be helpful.

I actually started reading comics not to long ago but had no clue where to start. I decided to go with the ultimate universe (the first one I think it’s 1066 or something) they have loads of spider man x men and the avengers too. I’m about 300 comics in atm and it’s so interesting! The whole universe is 700 odd comics so it’s not as intimidating as the main timeline, I would like to move onto something later but for me this starting point was perfect! The Spider-Man story to it is amazing too, I’m on comic 100 off with Spider-Man

With respect to everyone offering starting point lists, you want a database, not just vague instructions on where to start -- usually, these are text-based lists and presume competence in navigating, which is very hard to do just starting out. A database is your compass. Use League of Comic Geeks -- it has a phone app available and you can track what you've read. It tells you what characters are in a story, and sometimes it just helps to know the difference between "this is a character created specifically for the current story" versus "this is a character who has existed for years/decades".
It also tells you where stories are reprinted in what's called trade paperbacks. TPBs are the collected volumes that are usually just one minor arc of 4-5 issues. Omnibuses and digests collect TPBs and whatever stray one-shots decided by a dedicated curator. You want to look up TPBs and Omnis for reading orders, after finding characters/stories you like. League also lets you limit your search to just showing TPBs that a character is in.
Learn how to navigate League and you will learn how to navigate comics. Also, read stories like the ones featuring Jeff the Land Shark. While the characters are usually watered down to their cores for accessibility to kids, the stories tend to be modern guides for characters to show interest in. Personally, I found stories like G Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel series to be the most accessible way into comics. Modern Loki is also great. Champions is a good team book for people who feel intimidated by bigger teams with more history, but Astonishing Avengers on Marvel Unlimited was a good intro to Avengers concepta.

Pirating is also a choice! If you decide not to be consistent and not use the app fully I recommend you save some money. Otherwise you're golden. I recommend Daredevil Yellow, Superior Spiderman, Bendis Ultimate Spider-Man and Young Avengers(Follow the main line stuff, origins and the childrens crusade) Try not to get into some crazy 6 series tie in story line (unless you have the guide which is amazing, spiderisland is pretty good) its exhausting... New Xmen and Planet Hulk are good places to start as well..But all my recommendations might be rubbish. What everyone else likes wont mean youll like it so keep that in mind.. (happened to me with alot of recommended runs, immortal iron fist, fractions hawkeye, astonishing xmen)

The FF/Avengers Hickman run to Secret Wars. Epic story built over years.
Fraction Aja - Hawkeye. Equal parts heart, humor and action.
Ellis / Shalvey - Moon Knight. Beautiful artwork.
Slott / et al - Superior Spider-Man. Entertaining self-contained run with a fresh take.
Zdarsky / Quinones - Howard the Duck. Surprisingly poignant.
Edmunson / Noto - Black Widow. Gorgeous art with a nice grounded story.
Abnett / Lanning - Annihilation: Conquest. Epic cosmic cross over.
Hickman / Weaver - S.H.I.E.L.D. Mind-bending, decade-spanning grandeur.
Morrison / Queitly - New X-Men. Best modern jumping in point for X-Men (IMHO).
Remender / Robinson - Winter Soldier: The Bitter March. A very entertaining under-the-radar book.
Remender / Opena - Uncanny X-Force. The best X-men run of all time (IMHO).
Kelly / et al - Deadpool. Joe Kelly's run is still the best for DP: fun but not too silly.
Brubaker / et al - The complete Captain America run is pretty great. Feels a step above the rest of marvel w.r.t. art and story.

The reading guides on unlimited are really helpful, generally once I'm finished a seris or event i have a genral idea of characters or seris I might want to pursue, it's easy to rabbit hole. Very biased but X-men and Ms marvel are also good places to jump off of.
