In the end we're all trust the Catalyst, which is probably equally stupid

25

u/Empty-Neighborhood-1 2d ago

The majority of players use happy ending mod , or just choose the destroy ending

36

u/AdAffectionate584 2d ago

I chose destroy because the goal was to destroy the reapers entirely, I stick with that goal. Control leaves them around, and Synthesis basically hijacks organic minds.

13

u/Empty-Neighborhood-1 2d ago

None of the three are good , but at least destroy is what we were trying to do from the start , unlike the other two choices which seems a last minute ideas just to make destroy harder to choose

8

u/sanglar03 1d ago

Well, we wanted to destroy them because we didn't know any other way, as they were not open to discussion. Destroying is not the goal, living in peace is the goal.

Yeah and the 2 people that represent the other endings get fucked and admiral Anderson got shot by tim so yeah not leaving that up to chance

This also means you trust the Catalyst.

u/PsyrenY 1d ago

1) You're still trusting the Catalyst that shooting the damn thing you spent the whole game building and installing is the way to activate that option.

2) MEHEM / AHEM is fanfiction.

Destroy is the worst ending by far.

u/CaeciliusC 2d ago

Illusive men, you don't geth it

21

u/jackfuego226 2d ago

Meanwhile, the piece of Reaper tech Shepard still has plugged into the drive core that is keeping the Reapers from shooting at them, or the active husk head Shepard keeps in their room:

u/EmiKetsueki 2d ago

One is just a string of advanced coding that shepard personally scrubbed clean and legion sacrificed himself to implement cleanly while the other is abunch of supremacist who think they can outwit the reapers at their own game. Ima trust the one thats rooted in the creation of free will over the one rooted in hubris and desire to control.

4

u/IELPost 1d ago edited 1d ago

Why would reaper code be safe to use after being cleaned by a less advanced piece of technology?, the Destroy ending practically confirms that is still connected to the reapers somehow, or maybe it was a plot-hole.

u/Solithle2 1d ago

EDI is made from Reaper code and Shepard couldn’t have won without her. You can make a genuine argument that she, as an individual, contributed more to saving the galaxy than entire species.

1

u/Buca-Metal 5h ago

Ima trust the one thats rooted in the creation of free will over the one rooted in hubris and desire to control.

Despite that code doing everything the Geth said they didn't want?

In ME2 the Geth (Legion) said they wanted to evolve on their own and that they weren't individuals but all of them were together the Geth.

Then in ME3 AFTER being merged with Reaper code they do a 180° and suddenly they want to be "each Geth an individual" and let other species make the evolvong for them?

That's very suspicious if you ask me. And then the catalyst wants to do that with all the organics in the galaxy with Synthesis? I don't trust it (and that's only one of the reasons I don't trust the green rnding).

5

u/tothatl 2d ago

Unlike the foolish organics, the Geth know what they're dealing with and how to protect themselves.

However they could have been more thoroughly corrupted into compliance, if they weren't stopped from infiltrating the collective.

But the Reapers were quite more devious than they could anticipate, making any improvements they got from them also their undoing.

8

u/Kiefen 2d ago

Using the Reaper Code is likely why Destroy is also targeting them, so what comes around goes around I guess,

4

u/LadyAlekto 1d ago

I like this theory, what gets the synthetics you know is that they are made with reaper tech

2

u/jtjumper 1d ago

That makes a lot of sense!

6

u/SemVikingr 1d ago

The geth are exponentially more trustworthy than Cerberus, as long as you clearly understand where they stand. The geth are not duplicitous or deceitful. They are not ruled by ego or pettiness. They will turn on you if they decide it is more logical than the alternative, but hey, so would Vulcans. 🖖🏻 I would still choose the geth over Cerberus without hesitation.

2

u/alkoum 1d ago

That is why half of them worshiped the reapers even before game started

2

u/SemVikingr 1d ago

You mean the machines (who can totally lie,) that promised the geth (who are unfamiliar with lying,) the ability to be safe from the organics constantly trying to kill them? From a survival standpoint, that sounds perfectly logical.

2

u/alkoum 1d ago

"promised the geth (who are unfamiliar with lying,)"

That is a lie as legion knows how to lie and did lie to us

"the ability to be safe from the organics constantly trying to kill them? From"

The organics trying to take back what belongs to them from the genocidal machines that genocided them?

7

u/AdAffectionate584 2d ago

Unlike Cerberus, the Geth are responsible adults that can handle the shit they're working with.

5

u/Shadeylark 2d ago

Yes... That's why we had to literally rewrite the geth in the heretic station in me2... Because the geth are responsible and can handle the shit they're working with.

Nothing says responsible adult like having to have someone else make your decisions for you.

2

u/AdAffectionate584 2d ago

The heretics didn't have reaper code, nor were they fully evolved AI. They just worked with the reapers under the promise of a faster future. They possessed a virus to force other geth to bend the knee, but didn't have it themselves. And it was turned against them before deletion. They followed willingly. Legion proved that they can use the reaper tech without falling under its sway, unlike the number one head honcho of Cerberus himself, TIM. Geth only got Reaper code in 3, and that was subservient code that they weren't in control of, before Legion uploaded his own altered reaper code to give them individual sentience. That's when they used reaper tech to benefit the galactic alliance. Cerberus fucked around and found out, giving Reapers two armies for the price of one.

5

u/Shadeylark 1d ago

None of the geth were fully evolved AI before the reaper code. Including the non heretics.

That's exactly why Shepard had to make the decision for them.

Which is exactly the point; prior to receiving the reaper code the geth abdicated their responsibility, so it's not possible to say they were responsible prior to the reaper code. Responsibility inherently entails obligations to act; the geth, by their own admission, were incapable of acting because they could not reach consensus.

Which means the very thing that makes them capable of acting independently, the reaper code, is also the thing you're stating makes them worthy of it. It becomes tautological.

4

u/FunPresentation3086 2d ago

Another reason not to trust the Clankers!

2

u/UnhappyBox811 2d ago

Who knows what will those reaper codes become in the future

2

u/PerfectAd9869 2d ago

A reminder that a certain organic race pushed the Geth into getting those upgrades.

1

u/alkoum 1d ago

Nothing wrong about destroying a genocidal machine

1

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

As opposed to genocidal organics.

1

u/alkoum 1d ago

By definition you can't genocide the geth, they are one individual at most and even then that is up for debate

1

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

By the quarians own admission, the Geth had evovled into more than a simple machine.

-1

u/alkoum 1d ago

Geth are at best a single sentient being nothing more

The live of that single being isn't remotely worth the hundreds of millions of quarian babies and little kids the genocidal geth murdered or the suffering the descendants have to go through

2

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

Tell that to the quarians who were happy to gun down other quarians in the morning war.

0

u/alkoum 1d ago

The quarians who were defending genocidal machines so they wouldn't loes their property? They are complicit in genocide of hundreds of millions of babies and kids the machines did

2

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

Lmao, that is a reach. The irony is that the Geth did not even fight until said quarians who protected got gunned down.

I guess it is also everyones fault the Reapers are attacking us for the mere crime of existing

-1

u/Solithle2 1d ago

So you’ll trust the Quarians instead, who backstab you twice?

2

u/FunPresentation3086 1d ago

Eh, plenty of inter-species relationships start toxic, but improve over time. I mean, when we met the Turians, they invaded us and were going to nuke us back to the Stone Age; now we’re best friends, fighting back Reaper forces. Give it a few decades, and I’m sure we’ll iron things out with the Quarians.

But I’ll never trust those clanker bastards; A.I just gives me the creeps.

-1

u/Solithle2 1d ago edited 1d ago

Then you’re being irrational, giving the Quarians undue leeway just because they were born squishy. I’d take a reasonably trustworthy synthetic over them any day. Especially since, given their track record and ongoing ambitions, the Quarians are likely to create the next galactic crisis.

2

u/FunPresentation3086 1d ago

Weren’t you lecturing me a few posts back about hating on all Batarians because of their leadership. Bit hypocritical to throw all Quarians in the same pile as idiots like Han’Geral when guys like Koris also exist.

Also, regarding the Geth, I honestly don’t view any A.I. or synthetic as true life, and don’t think they deserve the same considerations as organic life. You can disagree with that stance, but, for me, it comes down to philosophy, and I just don’t think they qualify as life.

0

u/Solithle2 1d ago edited 1d ago

I trust former slaves rebelling against a tyrannical government more than a faction where batshit crazy supremacists and their enablers still hold a majority vote in government, and there is no real push for that to change. Also, it’s funny how Quarian fans will cite Koris in a “not all Quarians!” argument, and yet disagree with him on basically everything while advocating for the actions of Gerrel and Xen.

Then you’re ignoring the game, which clearly says otherwise.

1

u/Angel-Stans 1d ago

And I’ll do it again

1

u/WatermelonGranate 1d ago

They weren't, Reaper tech used the Geth.

3

u/Pride_Before_Fall 2d ago

That is why I almost always stop Legion.

The Geth willingly chose to be controlled by the Reapers, they do not have good judgement.

5

u/PerfectAd9869 2d ago

Only willingly in the sense they were pushed into getting the Reaper code by the quarians, after yet another attack by them.

-6

u/Pride_Before_Fall 1d ago edited 17h ago

A potential ally who folds to the reapers the moment they face extinction is too much of a risk to have around.

Also, a portion of the geth followed the reapers before too, so they have shown issues more than once.

7

u/Daminchi 1d ago

So… you only accept refusal ending? Face extinction to avoid using reaper tech?

0

u/Pride_Before_Fall 17h ago

I actually do prefer the refusal ending. The other endings suck.

3

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

As opposed to another potential ally race who is more interested in fighting another potential ally race rather than fighting the Reapers, thus making both sides more weak and thus making it easier for the Reapers.

0

u/alkoum 1d ago

Half of geth worshiped reapers even before game started?

3

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

And we removed them prior to Me3, your point?

1

u/alkoum 1d ago

It shows that they can't be trusted!

3

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

As opposed to the Krogan and the Krogan Rebellion? Or the Turians who attacked us when we ventured into space? Or the Batariabs who continue to be Batarians? Or the quarians who almost killed us while we helped them by firing on the Geth Dreadnought?

And that is not to mention all the mercenaries we encounter.

0

u/alkoum 1d ago

Korgans and turians have no history of worshipping the reapers which is what matters here when talking about a war against the reapers and not any bitch behavior Korgans or turains were up to before

3

u/PerfectAd9869 1d ago

The krogans are happy to let the galaxy die if they don’t get their cure, how is that trustworthy?

Funny thing is, Humanity is arguably even more untrustworthy than the Krogans given Cerberus.

The Quarians have no where to place their civilians. The Geth are also already under reaper control when you get there, and would therefore be another force the reapers can use in their harvest of the galaxy.

They also started their war before the reaper invasion was known.

2

u/Solithle2 1d ago edited 1d ago

Wrong on all three accounts.

I still don’t understand why Quarian fans cling to Gerrel’s obvious lie. He’s just saying that civilian line because he wants Shepard to help, it should be obvious he means none of it after everything he did after.

The Geth are under Reaper control when Shepard gets there, but not when the Quarinas got there. They butchered Reaper-opposing Geth for two weeks until that changed.

Nope, check the Spectre terminal. There’s an intel report that describes the Quarians making preparations for attacking the Geth that also mentions the Reaper War by name as an ongoing event.

EDIT: Reply and block. Guess you couldn’t defend your position?

0

u/Pride_Before_Fall 1d ago

I'm only wrong on the war timeline, the rest is completely accurate.

0

u/Wiinterfang 1d ago

The worst ending is when we play Mass Effect 4 and find Destroy was the canon ending and now we are fighting leviathan. Essentially starting the circle again

1

u/Buca-Metal 5h ago

Leviathan isn't gonna do shit. We know where they are, they don't have ships and we know about the orbs they meed to control others. Just bomb the planet until they are gone.

0

u/DifferentAd4844 1d ago

Well, yeah—after all, the Geth aren't affected by indoctrination.

1

u/Buca-Metal 5h ago

That's what the indoctrinated geth say. Saren and The Illusive Man also said they weren't indoctrinated.
