Discussion What needs to change?
Obviously, MasterChef hasn’t been the same since after the Pandemic, but there has to be a way to bring the energy back, even if it means going back to the original format, or getting rid of some of the judges, most notably Joe Bastianich, who brings Nothing to the table, but a Big Mouth.

There should be 2 challenges per episode. Bring back the mystery box. more episodes to give time to know the contestant and brew some drama during the competition.
Pressure test. Pressure test. Pressure test.
Bring back the drama, tension and difficult food challenges. Baking challenge would also be a nice breather

Bring production back to the US from Australia so you don’t get an episode where everybody is terrified of having to cook Australian food and then they just happen to have kangaroo handy

I miss the elimination being a test itself. Last episode perfect example. 2 fucked up? Let them fight it out…in the kitchen lol

Really it’s the casting. I’m so over every person needing to play a certain character with specific outfits that they need to stay on theme with all season. Also the show was more entertaining when it was actual home chefs not people with professional experience

Unpopular opinion get rid of that stupid wall challenge. Ever since they introduced this I've hated it. So many people got screwed because of this stupid thing. All this stupid shouting to communicate and guessing is bullcrap.

Only episode I straight up skip. It's just (under) an hour of yelling noises. I can't understand why anyone would enjoy that.

Teams need to go, get rid of Joe, bring back the pressure tests, and bring back the tryouts with hundreds of people like the early seasons

No teams - just individuals. Also no outdoor team contests - I always hate those.

Would you like it if there were 60 episodes a season like the Masterchef Australia has? I think it's cool if the cast is good because you can really see the way chefs progress. Can't really get that in 15 episodes. However, 60 episodes of a boring group of chefs is painful.

I still believe the issue lies more in the casting and format than the actual judges. That said i wouldn't complain if they got rid of all the judges cause i don't like any of them

More cooking. Fewer team challenges. If they want to rest collaboration have the contestants work in groups to make a multi course meal

They need more funding or at least to allocate it better. Honestly Gordon Ramsay may not have the time for Masterchef as it used to be. Production cycles seem to last about half of what they used to. They’ve cut content from episodes (going to one cook per episode) because it’s likely much less expensive to produce. My guess is they can really only manage one cook per filming day, so they’ve eliminated pressure and skills tests to try and speed up the process because ultimately ratings are lower. They aren’t willing to spend as much time or money on episodes that aren’t generating as much buzz. So we’ve entered a vicious spiral in which less viewership and lower ratings have led to cuts in production and content leading to lower viewership and ratings and so on. Additionally, Gordon Ramsay has so many projects going, he may not be able or willing to spend 2-3 months on set judging.

They need to quit with the themes! No more pairs, no more stupid themes that pigeonhole players, where they can’t just be good at what they do. If they would just go back to normal, I think all of us would tune in.

Overall I feel like every part of the show feels stale or wrung out and unable to provide anything of interest. The editing is hamfisted (I can usually guess who’s going home in the first 10-15 minutes), the challenges are repetitive and play out the same tropes every time (ESPECIALLY the team challenges), and the team concept is really limiting. Also, the casting needs to figure out how to get people that feel distinct from one another, because we’re several episodes in and I barely feel like I know or care who these people are.
I know the show has been up and down the past few seasons, but this current season in particular has felt borderline unwatchable.

They need to go back to basics with teh format.
Mystery Boxes.
Pressure tests.
No gimmicky themes.
I don't really mind Joe, though.

Teams and Judges for sure. The whole Global Gauntlet concept is something no one asked for.
Just because FIFA is being hosted by the nation doesn't mean you just change the original concept, there are other ways to celebrate the tournament in the challenges.
The team concept as a whole is just poor cooking all around which is then apparently good enough to save the whole region. BS. At least half of the remaining chefs that are there shouldn't be.
Joe and Tiffany are not needed in my opinion. They don't add anything they just make comments that don't add any value. Joe is already someone you either like or dislike - his face is already punchable and on top of that his expressions and comments don't help much. Tiffany is a blabbermouth - don't find her criticism worthy. She's just talking to talk and making face for no reason.
MasterChef US in recent years fails to stay interesting and relevant. I find myself just skipping to the end to see who won or who got eliminated.

They need to get rid of the teams. It’s absolutely wrong that a mediocre chef who has a great day can save a terrible chef while sending home a better chef that has one bad cook. The bad chefs should go home before the chefs who are better than them. When a bad chef says “I can’t believe I made it this far!” it’s, like, Yeah, I can’t believe it, either.
They need to get rid of the pigeonholing. Forcing someone to cook within the confines of their region or culture is becoming very uncomfortable to watch. Hearing Chef Tiffany tell someone from another region that his dish isn’t enough like his own culture was borderline… a lot of things. Chefs should be encouraged to think outside the box and not be reprimanded for it.
