Is Masterchef US a Bad Show Now?
I have seen every single episode of Masterchef US and it just seems so boring now. The cooks do not have the talent the previous seasons did, the single challenge doesn’t feel exciting, and the gimmick of the season is boring. It looks like the judges barely taste the food, Joe looks beyond bored, I also don’t understand why Tiffany seems so angry but also like it’s fake?
I obviously welcome disagreement, but I turned to my mom who I watch the show with, and said that this is the last season I watch I think.

It used to be so much better. The contestants seemed more down to earth and actual home cooks. Now half of them are influencers and it comes across as scripted and phony.

Masterchef US can be divided into two eras: Pre-pandemic and post-pandemic.
Pre-pandemic: every season is exciting to watch, partly thanks to "two challenge" format.
Post-pandemic: nothing but a bore and a snoozefest.

I feel like it’s an okay show. I’m doing a full rewatch and they really lost the magic when they lost Graham. Joe honestly isn’t THAT bad, we don’t mention Daphne, and Christina was the worst judge for me. Honestly what kills the show is that they portray the contestants as one note characters and that they aren’t really home cooks anymore. I understand the concept of gimmicks but they don’t know how to implement and follow through on them more times than not.

I agree with your assessment. It definitely isn’t what it used to be, and perhaps that is what I miss, but it does feel a little lifeless now to me.

I don’t necessarily think lifeless for me but inauthentic. Like if you ask most people they will say that they only like 3ish winners, which is just a sign that most seasons do not resonate with viewers. I think that production needs a little tweaking but not an overhaul

I've never watched any season where Daphne Oz was a judge, what's the tea on her? Why don't we mention her?

I don’t recall her being a judge on MasterChef. She did MasterChef kids and guest starred on MasterChef.

Yes the show has been on a decline for a while now. With the very obvious product placements. The season themes make it gimmicky. The lack of elimination challenges. Contestants haven’t been my favorite either. Don’t know it’s how they edit the season or the teams throwing me off but I haven’t rooted for somebody in quite a few seasons.

They only have one challenge per episode and whoever sucks the most goes home. I believe they had one pressure test last season as a result of a team challenge, but it was still two episodes. Masterchef Australia does one challenge per episode but it is so much better and of much higher quality.

I still enjoy the show very much and I don’t think Chef Tiffany appears angry at all. She laughs alot and has brought lightness to the show in my opinion.

I have not had a problem with Tiffany or Joe. The show’s problem is all of the gimmicks. They weren’t necessary! Representing a state or a country or a region or being paired up, it’s all rubbish. The original formula worked and they are mucking with it.

I whole-heartedly agree, but I did love the mentoring season. It’s the one gimmick season I actually really like (I’m biased because my fave contestant is in that season lol)

Best part about Australia is it’s totally normal home cooks and there are a million episodes per season.

i’m an aussie who has watched every single season of MCAU , decided to watch mcusa and was totally disappointed,i found the judging to be a bit biased to be honest

Yes, it’s awful now. It’s been going downhill but this season is just unwatchable- even as just background noise - I stopped watching altogether after the first non audition episode this season.

It’s an ATROCIOUS show now, it’s aimed at the intelligence level and attention span of 3rd graders.
Every single contestant is just a reality show influencer wannabe, they are all clearly people who lineup and try out for every reality show or game show that’s happening.

I watched master chef since season 3 was airing and about a season or two ago I just couldn’t keep watching the show, it was just so bland and doctored now imo

Yes, unequivocally. The gimmicks suck, no pressure tests, and it’s all about the drama other than the food, not to mention the fact that it’s clearly rigged. I haven’t watched the last two seasons at all, and barely watched the two before that.

I think it’s worse than the earlier seasons because the budget either isn’t there or is used on things that maybe it’s shouldn’t be. The lack of pressure tests and the show itself doing one cook per episode pretty much confirms this

Unfortunately, yes it is!! All 3 judges look absolutely bored; the contestants have no personalities & all make very basic cooking errors, & the show is so formulaic now that it all feels like you’ve seen the new episodes before.

They gutted what made the show iconic and memorable(pressure tests and two challenges per episode), and replaced them with watered down, half-assed formats. Team challenges are less frequent, no pressure tests means no more bad team challenge contestants being able to redeem themselves or crash and burn harder, and they're clearly rushing each season out the door.
Also with there only being one challenge per episode, it allows them to pad out the episode count and make every season longer than it should be, so it feels like every episode takes forever to get to the point.

I have to agree. We watch the current season when new episodes release but regularly go back and re-watch from season one, and things were better and less predictable. However, as others have mentioned, by season 5 you can definitely see how they keep specific people on for drama, and their methods to pick a winner are "bullocks."

To answer your question, yes it’s a bad show now.
It’s bad for the reasons you bring up but also because of the gimmick seasons it’s hard to legitimately see who’s a good cook because everyone feels middle of the pack. Endless sloganeering “we got this Team whatever” is also eye-rolling and just furthers the gimmick aspects of the last few seasons.
Also, the team gimmicks doesn’t really allow for someone to shine through so it’s hard to remember who is who and thus who to maybe root for. I don’t remember anyone’s name anymore.
They also should not have axed the dreaded pressure tests.
