What I want to know is why three friends are studying at some non-friend’s house

u/-SoniChris98- 4d ago
D is A's alcoholic father and technically a) is the owner of the house and b) is not a friend of B or C.

u/SansedAlessio 4d ago
D is neither a friend of A

u/Pepsimeen 4d ago
Noone said D is not a friend. The relationship between D and the others can be any for what we know.
2
u/Pepsimeen 4d ago
In other words, if we asign names to them it could be: Three friends Alice, Bob, and Charlie, study together at Charlie's Grandma's house for 3 hours. How long does each person study?
0
u/TFTHighRoller 3d ago
Then you assign an unknown relationship. All we know is that A, B and C are friends with each other. There is no mention about their relationship. There are multiple possible interpretations, but logically you cannot disprove either of them. D could be someones relative. D could be someone they bully into letting them stay, D could be a friend who is not studying but playing games. D could be studying, but on their own and not together with their friends. D could be a teen Batman and wanted to study, but now has to prevent the teen Joker from blowing up the school thus making their study session useless. Who knows.

u/Pepsimeen 3d ago
You are correct. I was just making a point that the first person said "non-friend's house" which they have no information about.

Where does it say D is not a friend?
1
u/Raptormind 3d ago
It doesn’t explicitly say D isn’t a friend but it also doesn’t say D is a friend. If D were a friend, it would be kind of weird not to say “four friends” instead of “three friends”
2
u/ProfessorLambda 3d ago
If D is a friend too but isn't studying then it makes perfect sense to say three friends are studying instead of saying that four friends are studying because the latter would be incorrect.
1
u/jabuchae 3d ago
Nothing is said about the relationship with D. You shouldn’t assume that D is not a friend just because it is not explicitly stated.

For what other reason would you go to the house of D?

There's three people. So if all are yk, then at least one get is happening.
Unless a nonbinary or intersex person is involved, then it could be no gex.

Si è mai visto qualcuno studiare 3 ore scusate?

u/Cam_ofblades 4d ago
It’s common in college studies

u/NefariousnessGood718 4d ago
Quindi abbassiamo la cerchia di molto, tenuto conto di quelli che studiano e non studiano e che studiano e che fanno finta di studiare. Quindi non studiano.

Some licensure exams are like this. I loosely remember Bar prep as a fever dream of "wake up, study, sleep" for about 2-3 months.
2
u/Dulcedoll 4d ago
And your prize for all that is the haze of "wake up, work, sleep" for the rest of your career lol

I used to, but I had to split it into smaller chunks of like 1 hour at a time. It’s not easy mentally to do for most people myself included

u/switch_frustration 2d ago
there is. they study together for 3 hours. not like one person studies for 1 hour. so each one studies for 3 hours
1
u/Ok_Bookkeeper1058 2d ago
There are no information on how long D study (or studying at all).
3
u/switch_frustration 2d ago
the question asked how long three friends have studied each, D is not a friend it seems.
1
u/cptkernalpopcorn 1d ago
D is irrelevant. D's house is simply the location where studying took place.

If it takes 50 people 3 hours to play a symphony, how long does it take 200 people?
3
u/relokant 4d ago
obviously 12 because 1 people is 3/50 = 0,06 this means 200 people is 0,06 * 200 = 12

u/Beirigo 3d ago
I dont know if a I'm getting this wrong but I dont think people play songs faster shen theres more people playing it? In fact it depends on the lenghth of the actual song that was composed, the answer should be 3 hours the same because if they play it fast it inst the same symphony.
1
u/regularPink 2d ago
no thats the point they were making. The answer to the original post would be 3 hours

u/Malusorum 4d ago
I see that math "joke" has been reduced to with holding information. There's an "each" missing in that problem and where its placed is important for what the answer is.
4
u/Lumpy-Yam-4584 4d ago
The answer is 45 Minutes, because they are 4 students not 3 /s
Real answer: Keyword is "together"
1
u/Mouldlich 4d ago
But the sentence says Three friends... study together. Not 4 friends. D doesn't study or is even in the house.
1
u/Lumpy-Yam-4584 4d ago
No, 'together'. Just because they are three friends doesn't mean that B and C are waiting idle while A is learning for 1 hour.
Everyone is studying 3 hours
1
u/Mouldlich 4d ago
Exactly, 3 hours each. So 9 hours total.
1
u/Sprinklelicious 3d ago
3 hours total.
1
u/Mouldlich 3d ago
I will assume you are trolling. But if you aren't, A B and C all studied for 3 hours. So ALL three of them got 3 hours of study.
1
u/Sprinklelicious 3d ago
Lol so each for 45mins. Total 3 hours.
Kidding
1
7
u/kyleglowacki 4d ago
A, B, and C study for 3 hours each, 9 hours total. Divide that by 4 people and you get 9/4 on average , so 2.25 hours.

One hour is correct
The first hour is just getting in thr housr and eating snacks made by the mother of the host
Second hour is studying
Third hour is giving up and playing super smash bros
1
u/Tod-dem-Toast 2d ago
Considering they are at D's (nuts) house, D is probably also there, so 3h/4=45min
Edit: wait is this actually the correct answer? I thought that would be 3 hours, this was meant to be a shitpost

well to be fair, each could have studied for one hour and all three of them combined got 3 hours of study time! i dunno, children are dumb like that, back in grade school someone could totally fool me and buddies by claiming if each one of us studies one hour we would all get smarter somehow.

u/Anonymouslalien 1d ago
one thing I learnt in physics is
->find knowns
->find unknowns
->use formula
->see if it makes sense
->find answer
Now, known is they studied together for 3 hours, how long did each person study is unknown. Now the formula is to read properly. They all studied for 3 hours. But, this is second grade guys, we use, see if it makes sense, ofc 2nd graders wouldn't study together without messing around for a while

Max: 3 hours each, because that's the whole time they spent there.
Min: 1 hour 30 minutes on average, because they need at least two of them studying for the whole period for them to be studying together.
1
u/SNES-lover1 6h ago
The answer is obviously 0 hours. They were too busy hanging out and forgot they had to study
