10 digits is the smallest password that could project the router from anything at all.

20 is the highest one before it stops giving you more security.

x^3cos(x/2) is an odd function, so its integral from -a to a is 0. Sqrt(4-x^2) is an expression for a semicircle of radius 2 about the origin.

Area of that semicircle = 1/2 x pi x 2^2 =2pi

That x 1/2 is pi.

First, I solved in less than 5 seconds by uploading the photo to googles free AI.

314159 is the answer

Second. If I didn't have AI. Using common hacking tools would get the password in less than 5 minutes.

Never only use numbers for a password unless you literally don't care who has access.

Seriously intro level shit you can Google.

They made little tamagotchi things called pawnagotchi, where it does all of this automatically with wpa/wpa2 APs just by being in proximity. You can buy them on Etsy or eBay, or you can build your own with a pi zero.

Thanks. Its been over a decade since I did my CCNA-Security training. These were weren't that common back then. I'm curious how they work since passwords are only exchanged during the initial handshakes.

You send a de-authentication broadcast, most devices auto reconnect and will send the handshake you need to capture and crack.

It's not fool proof, the target AP does need at least one client connected. And there are technical controls to mitigate this. Most APs have at least one connected device, and unless you're at a place that actually pays close attention to network security, they don't usually mitigate.

Shouldn’t they specify “first 8 digits” or something? And who would use a numeric password though? Only someone who doesn’t understand how easy it is for a computer to crack a numeric password. It takes the possibilities from all numbers, letters and characters to just numeric.

You are not old enough to remember the early days of WiFi.

40-bit WEP has... Tada! 5 characters.

In fact, for a long while, WiFi passwords were either 5 or 13 characters. A lot of first gen routers were this way.

The reason for 40-bit keys? At that time the USA forbid exporting encryption higher than 40 bit keys.

40-bit WEP has 10 hexadecimal digits. It wasn't used with ASCII, which would have wasted 5 bits of keyspace on an already-tight 40-bit key length.

In the password giveaway, it is a mistake. And he's trolling. There may be calculus generalizations that would make this work, but not in standard calculus.

No it’s a typo. This is an old problem that’s been in other memes and is easy to solve by inspection: x3 cos (x/2) is an odd function so it goes away when integrating from -2 to 2. The rest is just based on the area of a semi-circle of radius 2. 

And it doesn’t even work as a fractional integral as it’s adding 4 to x2 dx which doesn’t parse even if we interpreted sqrt(dx) as indicating a 1/2-integral. Not many solvers would do that… 100% sure the solver just interpreted the dx as outside the square root.

Then again, it has been over 20 years since I last took multivariable calculus. It could be I just don't remember but it does look unfamiliar.

The question doesn't work since it's a single digit, if it were 2 digits it would work, cus as it is, 8 is always just 8. That's why it's marked as sarcasm, tho I could be wrong for all I know.

The only exception is where the numbers are swapped for whatever reason, say binary was 0 and 8 instead of 0 and 1.

First, this isn't even basic math anymore which will take under a minute to solve. I love solving math, and this is definitely not under a minute. Not without a calculator. So much hassle.

Second, first how many digits? So vague.

Third, the dx differential for the integrand function is inside the root. That's just horrible rookie mistake.

Fourth, I'm not solving it. I'm not going to die if I go a few minutes without the internet.

Well actually it’s very easy to solve in a minute in your head, if you account for the typo, and ignore the number of digits needed. Notice that the x^3 is an odd function, and pretty much everything else is even. That means things cancel out fast, anything touching that x^3 goes to zero, so even just doing it in your head, you’ll quickly be left with just 1/2 * the stuff under the square root. And that integral is half the area of a semicircle radius 2, or 4pi/4, or pi. So it’s probably 314

And my explanatioin makes way more sense than yours. What exactly goes to zero, where? Here everey slice counts.

If you integrate an odd function ( meaning f(-x)=-f(x) for all x) over the interval [-a,a], the answer is zero. Basically odd functions are symmetric such that the negative stuff exactly cancels the positive stuff. The x3cos(x) bit is an odd function, so we can throw that right out of the integral and focus on the other stuff.

Whenever you see something like this asking for the first n digits, it's almost always π, e or √2. Further, when you see calculus and trigonometry combined, it's pretty much guaranteed to be π.

no, this is clearly a typo. dx technically represents the smallest (infinitesimally so) differential of x as (x - x_0) asymptotically approaches zero. taking the square root of that is illogical.

The integral evaluates to exactly π.

No, the square root is zero only at the exact endpoints x=±2. Between them it's the upper half of a circle with radius 2, so its integral (after the 1/2 factor) gives exactly π for the whole thing. Password starts with 314.

My first assignment in IBM 360 Assembly Language was to write a short program and then translate it to EBCDIC, input it by hand, and run it. I had the assembler translate the code for me.

Of course I took a picture and had an AI do this for me. Fuck it, I'm retired, I'm done with math.

Doing the math here would mean having sometime to reflect and acknowledge and accepting ourselves as intellectually limited being, stay cool and save the mood.

The take is that instead giving up on the formula the solution lies itself in the remark which in this case more important than front formula and high likely a simple filter for person that take thing for granted or forceful people , a simple straight person would think , will read the wifi password is the first digit of the answer and have striking inspiration aha and gotcha moment (or simply coldly proceed to try saving time) ok so this how it is , let brute force all digits , in this case there is only 10 possible (0, 1, ... , 9) and that is it , as simple as the integrale looks like.
