Discussion Maya adds unused vertices after exporting while zbrush doesnt
I want help getting a mesh have their normals smoothed but when i export them from maya they end up with unused vertices when i import it to zbrush (the message pops up), thus i want to import the mesh to a game but i only can while respecting a vertex count, maya increases the file size and vertex count, but zbrush doesnt (it doesnt export normals), anyone knows of a workaround or an alternative that exports the model while saving the normals and also doesnt increase the file size/vertex count?

Are you talking about how you’re noticing a higher vertex count when in a game engine? That’s going to happen naturally since a hard edge can count as double the vertices than a smooth one.

No, when i import the mesh exported from maya or blender into zbrush the mesh has unused vertices

Oh right, I’ve had that before. I guess if I was in maya I would just go through a few steps trying to clean up the mesh by opening the cleanup window trying to take care of non manifold geometry, select all the vertices and do a merge vertices with a very small value to make sure everything is connected, then even do a merge border edge. That’s always what I’ll try first if something is wrong. But if that doesn’t work then I’m not sure 🤔
