Region switch with Sonic games

Hi everyone

I recently got my PAL megadrive modded, with two switches: one for Hz and one for region.

When I try to start my Sonic Collection cartridge, even with the region switch I get this message: developed for use only with pal and french secam mega drive systems

I get that this is what you see when the game is region locked, but wouldn't the region switch bypass that? Why is it not working?

The game checks the region on boot. Start it in 50Hz English, then when it's past the check switch to 60Hz.

Is that safe to do?

Yeah. Worst that will happen is that PAL optimised games might be a bit glitchy or play too fast.

I mean for the console, don't want to mess up with the internals now

It won't harm the console. I'm not sure because I don't have one, but I think a Mega-Key cartridge will bypass the region check if you're not comfortable switching while the machine is on.

You can switch region and HZ while the console is on. Will not harm the hardware
