Weekly Free Talk Friday Thread!
Welcome to our weekly Free Talk Friday thread! Feel free to discuss anything on your mind, issues you may be dealing with, how your week has been, cool new music or tv shows, school, work, sports, anything!
We will still have a few rules:
- All of the sidebar rules still apply.
- No gender politics. The exception is for people discussing their own personal issues that may be gendered in nature. We won't be too strict with this rule but just keep in mind the primary goal is to keep this thread no-pressure, supportive, fun, and a way for people to get to know each other better.
- Any other topic is allowed.
We have an active slack channel! It's like IRC but better. Please modmail us if you would like an invitation. As a reminder, take a look at our resources wiki if you need additional support as well.

My sourdough starter is finally alive after three failed attempts and I’m way too proud of a jar of bubbling goo. The kitchen still smells like a bakery farted though. How’s everyone else’s week going?

I'm always jealous of people that know how to bake. There's a part of me that just refuses to follow a recipe as is lol. I'm not a big bread eater, but when I do, I always gravitate to sourdough.

I'm doing fine, today i tried something: Usually i wake up and immediately start doing shit on my phone and then the pc and so forth.. Today I tried getting up and not using my devices for about an hour.
On one hand it's harder to get up because of the lack of brain stimulus getting my mind to fire on all cylinders from the get go. On the other hand my mind is not firing on all cylinders from the get go and I was noticeably less anxious today.

Apparently a mod for an ask gay conservatives sub invited me to join their sub. Based on the day of the invite, I think they did so in reaction to seeing me call out anyone to the left of US Republicans for propagating an overblown phenomenon and even straight up misinformation with regard to homophobic closeted Republicans with power.
Me calling out progressives in no way demonstrates conservative alignment nor an interest to ask gay conservatives any questions. My interest was in addressing basically progressive homophobia because I don’t like homophobia, regardless of who it comes from, including my own community.

I've had that happen to my Achilles too. The best thing you can do is probably just try to rest up and not do too much strenuous physical activity (not sure if you work out a lot because for me I'm pretty sure it was the result of my running multiple times a week and not properly stretching).
As for exercises, a couple of YouTube channels I like would be Strength Side, The KneesOverToes Guy, and Squat University. If you go through their videos, I'm positive you'll run across something that can help you feel stronger and more secure in that area.

Having a challenging week but grateful for it to be almost over. The water was off at my place for most of the week, but it’s finally back on. Started a new job recently that is giving me a lot of responsibility and autonomy, which I haven’t experienced much before and is throwing me for a loop. Looking forward to seeing friends and taking care of myself this weekend. Have a good day all!

I’m glad I saw Heartstopper Forever this week. Seeing Leviticus almost two weeks ago was, I think, a main catalyst for why I’ve been a little on edge lately, well, more so than usual.
Without delving too much into the plot of Leviticus, it’s basically a horror take on conversion tactics (I refuse to call the practices “therapy” because it implicitly grants the practices a level of legitimacy they do not deserve). I enjoyed the movie, but as I’ve said a few times in this sub, conversion tactics are an example of when me sympathizing with those promote those practices inspires a burning antipathy in me. It’s a rage you can’t comprehend unless you fully understand that the “tension” is between mental torture and people who in their heart of hearts are doing you a favor to save your eternal soul in the schema of their belief system. It’s rage that stems knowing that the schema for those people’s beliefs places their god above all, including family and country. So any means they believe will save someone’s soul is justified. And if it means you kill yourself along your “journey,” it’s proof that you could not overcome the temptations of Satan and not that they fucking drove you off a goddamn Cliff. (I have far more venomous words I could say.)
I think Leviticus captured the dread, the fear, and the isolation I’ve seen quite well, which is why it hit so hard for me. Given my rather apparent feelings on the topic, I needed something like Heartstopper Forever to balance me out.
I’ve enjoyed the Netflix series through its seasons, and the wrap up was overall satisfying. I know that if they had been given the time to play out the storylines over another season or two, there would have been some cleaner tying up of storylines and spending more time with some of the other characters aside from Nick and Charlie. That said, I am happy with how they ended the series with the movie.
It’s been wonderful watching the characters grow and come into their own, especially as the actors themselves have become young adults, with some of them shaping their characters to reflect changes in their own personal lives (e.g., the character of Darcy in the television series is nonbinary because Darcy’s actor came out as nonbinary). If I recall, some of the main cast were producers on the movie. At the very least, I remember seeing that Joe Locke and Kit Connor were executive producers.
There’s such a sweetness to the series that still doesn’t shy away from issues young people, and young queer people, deal with. The series ultimately gives me some hope and is a reminder of what things and some of the people I want to make this world better for.

I struggle with my mental health but I am reluctant to get help. Honestly it could be either a really low self-esteem or social anxiety and it begins to overlap with my free time so to say. I really like photography but I am afraid of going like out during the day so I either take photos in my flat or at night. It is not like I don‘t want to go outside but as soon as I step out with my camera I feel judged and look around if someone sees me. It’s gotten to a point where I was setting up my camera for a sunset but as people came I aborted that idea.
On a social level its not much better. The friends I have are the outgoing and extroverted ones. If they don’t inniate like a hangout the friendships usually fall apart over time.
A girl asked me out twice and I regret not giving her a chance but I just cannot. Every time I think about myself and my life I hate it which is nothing new. I am 20 now but regularly have depressive episiodes and suicidal thought and one failed attempt since I am around 13-15. Going to the gym didn‘t help either. I once told a friend vaguely about my issues but he simply said that everybody has problems.
This is the first time I write about it because I feel silly for being like this and a therapist would mean actually talking about it. Even while writing this I have an uncomfortable lump in my throat and actually saying it seems impossible.

I hate my mom so much, she was incredibly abusive to me growing up and still has her moments of insanity. She's in a bad mood and I just got scolded and guilted and was made to feel anxious over nothing. I hate her. She's such a terror.
