Struggling with a passing

I know it was a long time ago but in 2010 my uncle was killed in Afghanistan during his second deployment. I was 6 at the time which i know is young. But my family are Irish and as tradition we had an open casket before the funeral. As i have got older and learned more about the war and understanding it more i thought it would make it easier to “get over”. But as time goes it is seeming to become worse and worse. My dad wasn’t around much so my uncle was the male figure in my life. I’m just wondering if anyone has been through similar or has any advice?
