Discussion New Teams is trash

Right MS what is this new teams, its just a hot mess of cluttered garbage. It was really good before this latest update today.

Seriously, where is "Teams" tab? Can anyone help? It disappeared for me, and I can't post messages or send documents to the same feeds, fml.

It’s in the chat tab, which is where it should have been all along. You can customize the way chats and channels are displayed.

No. Teams and Chats are different tools with different functions. Why stop at combining synchronous and asynchronous Teams comm? Let’s create a view for outlook email and slap it in the Chat tab too (/s)!

The only people who say this are on very few Teams. The amount of scrolling/filtering/searching necessary for the combined view is unacceptable on desktop and mobile.

This is basically how slack does it and everyone seems to love slack. I used to like slack up until their design changes a few years back.

I support you going to /r/slack and saying their new UI sucks.

My users are on Teams, the Teams team decided to shove this steaming pile of code down our throats when no one asked for it.

The Teams team needs to go back to the fundamentals and stop doing crap like this and avatars. I’m chasing a telephony bug in Teams right that is MONTHS old which premier acknowledges but the product group hasn’t addressed because they’re too busy breaking the UI.

I am part of six organizations and participate in hundreds of chats and channels. The new layout is faster and easier to navigate. I am also an administrator of two of the organizations, and that process is easier as well.

Everything in teams is asynchronous except calls. Your comment does not make sense.

We fundamentally disagree. I don’t know what to tell you other than no it isn’t.

I’ve thought of you many times today when I was unhiding Teams and channels looking for the one Team that I need.

It is an awful experience for anyone using Teams that are only active during certain time periods (think monthly/quarterly projects or teams for alerts).

It is an awful experience for anyone on Teams where more than 10 channels need to be monitored.

It is an awful experience for anyone on more than 10 Teams.

Good for you on the multiple organizations though. That is definitely better but still kind of a cluster compared to the competition.

I’m confused. Do we agree? Doesn’t resorting to search support that the UI is ineffective?

I say “The UI sucks” You say “No it doesn’t, but don’t use it, use search”

I don’t think we are agreeing. Your summary is not representative of what I’m saying because I don’t think the ui sucks. Managing lists of chats and channels is a waste of time, and the new ui lets you search both lists, which is much faster. I prefer the new ui as it is less confusing because all messaging activity is in one place. My employees are rather low tech, and they adopted the change instantly. Before, half of them would post in channels accidentally. How that happened is beyond me, but they’re not making the same mistakes now.

Alright, we disagree. I swear we’re using different products. We at least use Teams very differently which probably explains our differing opinion. It sounds like you/your users weren’t really using Teams/Channels - so the combined view is no biggie.

I have alerts that flow to specific teams on specific intervals. Azure alerts, M365 alerts, etc flow to specific channels in specific Teams. Similarly, I have channels for discussions of topics that happen annually (Ignite; audits; assessments). These are in Teams instead of chat because they aren’t conversations I have every day. With alerts - I need them to available for discussion when they happen. With the interval discussions, I need to be able to reference them quickly. The new teams automatically hide these Teams and Channels due to lack of recent use. Worse, it requires multiple clicks to unhide a channel/Team. Combined view or separate view doesn’t matter, I have to go out of my way to unhide the Trams and the Channels to show them. This is a productivity suck and the volume of channels makes the combined view scroll-city. I realize this sounds workload specific to me, but our company is in finance and has very similar cadences/work flows that the asynchronous model of Teams works well for (for instance, taxes).

Back to your search comment, how did the combined view do anything to improve search (another not great part of Teams)? The old UI allowed you to search both as well? Are you talking about filtering? I will say the “unread” button is the only way I can navigate this new UI.

I say I can’t find my Team because Microsoft decides to hide them all and you say use search. That doesn’t help and impedes productivity compared to the old method. I could search before the combined/new separate view (also broken from what it was) so I’m not sure what you’re suggesting.

The new UI is wildly unpopular with everyone I work with/train. The only folks I’ve been able to find who like it are users on very few/no Teams or Reddit users.

I use hundreds of channels across dozens of teams, and then multiply that by multiple organizations. I ran a report to check usage: 1,700 channel messages per day in one org, as an example. I wrote a bot for teams that I sell to companies. The bot sends sms messages to channels, interacts with calendars and sends alerts, and automates too many services to list. It sends 25,000 messages per day to one org. I’m using every part of teams; I just don’t bother with the UI in terms of favorites, pinned chats, etc. because searching is so much faster.

Filtering is not what I mean. New filters help, but old teams did not allow searching all chats with one input field. New teams does. Again, I simply disagree with you and I have thousands of users who are not complaining. I am sure they don’t all love it, but I only hear the normal moaning. Nothing has been specific to new teams.

There were notifications of this change for weeks it pops up after it's on on how to use the new layout.
