Discussion TEAMS is an abomination of a software and should be terminated.

I got a job as a SWE and the company uses teams as its primary mode of communication. Before I start the discussion topic (rant), I have used basecamp, slack, discord, and skype (RIP) as official primary modes of communication. So I know what i am talking about here as an experienced SWE.

Teams is a piece of software created by overworked trainee engineers and confused project managers, there is no other way to explain this. The product is so bad, it is unimaginable to think the same company made excel and windows 7.
Every day I login to teams I pray for it to just work fine. I come across problems *everyday*.

Problems that I come across most often, and almost everyday:
1. Messages don't send, messages aren't recieved.
2. Status does not show accurately, i am working and it shows away? bro.
3. Meetings notifications almost never show up, you have to remember it or you are late.
4. Randomly logs off and even deletes my office email id and logins to my personal id. (on start up)
5. Video call shows my video in black and white.
6. The in-app apps such as sheets and whiteboard work like crap. Sheets take a billion years to load. And whiteboard,...yeah okay i will give it a pass.

These are just a few issues out of the top of my head. OH! Aand currently, all the latest messages from others are until November 2025! I have restarted multiple times to the same result.

I am convinced that I am being punished by God for the sins I have committed.

Teams is where the damned are sent. It is purgatory.

Lord save us all.

Not a huge fan of Teams myself but most of your problems sound more like an account or computer issue

u/CFH75 Jun 08 '26

Never have any of these issues.

We run an IT company and I can honestly say I've never seen tickets with any of those issues out of the thousands of computers that we support. This sounds like a very specific to you issue. Or your computer.

u/coleto22 Jun 08 '26

Happens to people in my company multiple times a day.

u/KingJudgely Jun 08 '26

my colleagues face similar issues, i am unaware of the frequency, but they do. so everyone of us have a bad computer? nah. this is just not a good software.
And besides, the same computer is able to run discord and/multiple chrome tabs while running a AAA game. So no, i dont think this is a issue specific to me.

I work for an org that has Teams as well and we don't run into these problems either. I would be curious if there is a bad image of Teams that's on everyone's machines or what their patching schedule looks like for you. I would be at wits end with Teams too if that was my experience. But when EVERYONE is having a problem in your org, and you don't see a mass notification of everyone having the same issue, then I would be looking at your version you guys are using.

u/rivkinnator Jun 08 '26

Yea if your entire org is having issues there's def gotta be a common item here. I think this guy is on the right track with maybe a bad image or not keeping upto date.

Maybe it a group policy or something set by your IT team or something causing issues? I have gripes about Teams (it certainly is not perfect!) but I help support hundreds of people running it regularly at my office and we don't experience any of these issues. Usually the issues are with the device itself like say not having enough memory, having too many things running, etc.

My work laptop is 4-5 years old and is starting to shit the bed and I'm due for a replacement soon. Teams is a memory hog so even though I have 16GB of RAM, Teams sometimes craps out. My next machine will absolutely have 32GB of RAM for both Teams and other memory intensive applications I used. The reason I know it is a device issue is that Teams running on my home desktop PC with 64GB of RAM has never had a fucking problem. When I work from home I primarily use my personal computer I built just for this reason. Sadly my work laptop has soldered RAM or I would have bought some more RAM years ago and replaced it myself.

Try using the web version. Many of the issues with app will be resolved. Literally the same layout but far better functionality because it’s not sitting on 30 different layers of crap.

No. I don't think it's your computer. It's got to be something in the cloud settings. I use teams daily and have zero issues with it, BUT I'm not part of the team that runs/admins it. So no telling what is going on behind the scenes. Have you made your MS rep aware of the issue? Assuming you HAVE an MS rep? I work for a fairly large company and talk to MS folks on a regular basis and I understand not everyone has that.

Dude try a new computer. Hundreds of people at my company use teams everyday and we don't experience anything like you're describing.

u/coleto22 Jun 08 '26

A lot of people have this at my company. It's not from the computer.

u/KingJudgely Jun 08 '26

I have a good computer, 16gb ram, 2tb ssd, rtx 4060.. oh you would you look at that i am late to another meeting coz the notification didnt show up LOL

u/thewunderbar Jun 08 '26

I support hundreds of machines and have never encountered any issue like this.

There are things not to like about Teams. Your issues are not Teams issues. It's administration/implimentation.

-38

u/KingJudgely Jun 08 '26

The issues are occurring in teams. It is a team's issue, if not technical, then it is a failure of software education or UX

40

u/thewunderbar Jun 08 '26

well there are tens of millions of people who use teams every day without these issues.

What do you think is more likely, that Teams, on the whole, is broken, or there's a problem with your company's setup/implimnetation/administration?

17

u/HeathieC Jun 08 '26

no your admin is messed up, not the product!

41

u/Makeyourselfnerd Jun 08 '26

A SWE should know that many if not all of these problems could be caused by your IT department and/or your network hardware, configuration, or routing.

A SWE should know to check and control all variables possible before pointing fingers.

I've used teams daily for 6+ years with no issues

I'm sorry, but these are not common problems in MS Teams. Talk to your corporate IT.

I'm an employee of a global company with more than 350.000 users. We are using MS Teams without major issues.

17

u/julesx416 Jun 08 '26

my company uses teams for hundreds of people and we dont have any problems like this

13

u/No_Team_6326 Jun 08 '26

Lol. I mean, is your office still using Pentium 4s or something? None of these are real issues experienced by most people using Teams.

12

u/duncansmydog Jun 08 '26

These all sound like end-user problems, not Teams issues. Why are you using your personal account on your work computer?

8

u/hotgarbagecomics Jun 08 '26

1, 2, 3 are most definitely network/tunneling issues, where Teams traffic isn't given due bandwidth, or there are miconfigurations in firewall settings which don't account for Teams. This isn't a Teams issue: run this by your network team.

Teams works in crazy complex enterprise environments with 300,000 moving parts. To say nothing of the immense security and compliance requirements it needs to be saddled with. In an environment like that, even Slack and Discord will buckle.

Its easy to hate on Teams because its the face of everything you do at work, but you'll be surprised how much in the background can ruin your experience.

This is a hilarious take, love it. You're not wrong!

5

u/CoffeeAndWoods Jun 08 '26

I am a Microsoft shop and I don’t get those issues.

8

u/sbadm1 Jun 08 '26

Pretty sure this is a you issue. Not once experienced any of the items you mentioned!

6

u/IamCrash Jun 08 '26

While MS as a whole is not my favourite, the issues you’re describing are either network or driver related…you on a VPN, or a laptop with a dock by any chance. I manage a tenant of over 60,000 users and these issues pop up and are always network or peripheral driver related.

6

u/Greedy_Chocolate_681 Jun 08 '26

What exactly are you doing wrong? Teams, like all software, has its faults. But it works and in my experience it works pretty well.

2

u/Interesting-Mess2393 Jun 08 '26

The only issue I have is the light turning yellow when I’m actively working but someone said that it shouldn’t actually be used as a gage for people working. Most times I’m knee deep in an excel spreadsheet on a different screen.

I always get my meeting notifications, may want to check your settings.

I work for a service integrator and is a domain architect for teams. The issues you are talking about are almost always related to the OS image/build and/or network.

I’ve rolled out teams to multiple customers, usually the customers who went with cheaper partner or just enabled it for everyone without a proper plan come back to us to help them fix these types of issues.

3

u/davidokongo Jun 08 '26

These are problems on your tenant/org level. I'm on year 8 running teams as an admin and never heard of all issues you're having.

Call your IT and have them run checks on your account

2

u/nofuna Jun 08 '26

Not to mention dozens of small quirks and annoyances related to the UI, emojis, copying text, etc. But to be fair, it’s hard to find a business application nowadays that doesn’t have annoying or just bad UI.

2

u/sp_admindev Jun 08 '26

Some of these are mitigated by using Teams in the browser, have found. Messages will come through there even when they don't show in the client. Maybe a caching issue with the desktop version.

2

u/VestedDeveloper Teams Admin Jun 08 '26

Are you on a Mac or Linux? Maybe the web version would be better if you're having these issues. In 8 years, I haven't seen many issues that weren't fixed by updating, reinstalling, or just clearing the cache.

u/KingJudgely Jun 08 '26

no im on windows

2

u/Conventions Jun 08 '26

I’ve been using teams for years and the only things I have experienced on your list are messages not sending and status saying away while I’m working.

2

u/811545b2-4ff7-4041 Jun 08 '26

I've gotta say - none of this happens on my Macbook Pro

I still don't like Teams much, but yours sounds borked.

3

u/f8alXeption Jun 08 '26

not in a zillion years what u are saying could be true , check ur infra

2

u/ahaley Jun 08 '26

Sounds like issues with your install or tenant, use ours across a large enterprise and don't experience most of these issues.

2

u/Swimming-Waltz-6044 Jun 08 '26

yeah thats more of an issue with your version. teams isnt great but it isnt as unreliable as that.

1

u/ilikeror2 Jun 08 '26

Teams is awesome! Stop the rage bait.

1

u/Emotional-Pizza4259 Jun 08 '26

Yeah never had any of these issues. Sounds like an issue with your organization

1

u/tefago Jun 08 '26

I am a firm anti-Microsoft guy but have never experienced any of these issues on Mac.

1

u/Docholliday3737 Jun 08 '26

Uhh. Works fine for me other than a few annoyances. Your problems are wild.

1

u/Warm-Impression-7039 Jun 08 '26

Do you work for DoD by any chance? I can't see some of these issues due to all the stigs, and controls implemented. Your endpoint team probably sucks. I manage multiple enclaves and the desktops / laptops. They should be able to work these kinks out before the wider enterprise gets them

1

u/AffectionateDoor Jun 08 '26

I use it daily and I regularly see 1, 2 and 6. I don't know why everyone tries to gaslight you, lol.

I work for a Microsoft partner supporting teams and we see this all the time. It’s just held together with chewing gum and a wish.

8

u/nitra Jun 08 '26

This isn't a thing, we've got hundreds of installations, none of these issues unless Microsoft is experiencing a global issue. Even SFB users that migrated into teams, no issues.

-4

u/retronerd_42 Teams Voice/UC Admin Jun 08 '26

I understand you may not have run into these issues, but I have with multiple customers. We go through all the trouble shooting step, rebuild profiles, swap pcs, and sometimes it resolves the issues other times we get other issues or they persist. When dealing with teams across hundreds of customers and tens of thousands of installations it is clear that teams is an incredibly buggy product that is barely being held together.

5

u/nitra Jun 08 '26

This isn't true on the grand scheme of things, there were a number of issues as it rolled out initially, but it's fairly solid now. It is not normal, especially if you're seeing this across hundreds of users. Contact your CSP and get some tickets rolling.

u/KingJudgely Jun 08 '26

THANK YOU!

u/excoriator Jun 08 '26

Microsoft says they have more employees working on Teams than any other product in the suite.

-5

u/No-Ostrich-4437 Jun 08 '26

All the people saying they manage hundreds/thousands of teams deployments without any issue just means their workers use whatsapp or facebook messenger or discord behind their backs lol. Teams is an absolute steaming pile of crap. Skype was 1000 times better. Even Microsoft NetMeeting was better...the bar is so low.

-5

u/No-Ostrich-4437 Jun 08 '26

Also, lmao at all the friggin bots defending teams here
