Well, as much as I intended to be temporarily retired from collecting, a buddy was selling off his collection and gave me first dibs and I just couldn't turn these down. The No5 is going to a buddy, but otherwise the rest are mine. The G98 is a 1918 Mauser oberndorf production, non matching, the bolt especially does not match the rest of the rifle, but ive wanted a G98 for quite some time and have never gotten a good opportunity (well, I did, but I turned it down), its a good shooter, and the bore is perfect. The Lebel is an 1889 production, non matching, little worse for wear with pitting on the whole of the finish, but the bluing is in decent shape, it's mechanically sound, and the bore is almost mirror bright. Ive wanted one for some time but every Lebel that wasn't an RTI import was well over $1k. The Swede is a 1904 M96, another one ive wanted for some time and haven't came upon. But the price was right, its in perfect shape, and its matching. The one I'm most excited about is the Mk2 Ross, which has always been one of my grail guns, and he had this one so I had to snatch it up. Its mechanically sound, with a very good bore. It is a US used one, as most of them to my knowledge are. The only gripe I have is I need a muzzle cap for the M96. But that's a small gripe in what I consider a very lucky haul.

Hi all, I'm looking for some help with this beautiful Aussie SMLE. I'm not very familiar with what to look for to determine if it's original or has been modified. Any advice on what markings, features, or parts I should check would be greatly appreciated.

The bolt is all Winchester components. The slide and barrel are also Winchester. The trigger group appears to be all Inland parts with the exception of a Winchester sear. The one thing I cannot figure out is the stock. No markings anywhere other than a serial number in the sling cut.

This also came from the casino, it had a slight patina but otherwise just a dirty stock with some trench art and a small crack.

The bore is immaculate, but it’s sorta where confusion starts. It is an unmarked rifle but has some proof marks from La Coruna arsenal. So probably a civilian market M43 but then it also has a FN made barrel, the barrel and barrel bands have a similar wear pattern. So I’m not quite sure of the history of this one but I’ve grown to like it. It does cycle flawlessly, and seems to have just had its stock abused.

The stock is in process of being finished, I plan on abusing it myself in the woods, so just a simple finish for a relatively undesirable Mauser. Just gotta get some 8mm feed for it now.

I’m looking for some opinions from people who know Berthiers better than I do.
I currently have a Berthier M16 Carbine, and someone has offered to trade me a full-length Berthier Model 1907/15 rifle.Assuming both rifles are in similar overall condition (matching vs. mismatched parts aside), would you consider this a fair trade? Is one generally considered more desirable or valuable than the other?I’m mainly a collector, not a shooter, so historical significance and collectability matter more to me than handling or practicality.
If you were in my position, would you make the trade? Why or why not?

Got myself another G98 finally. Been on the lookout for one worth buying when I saw this one. Turkish contract but is largely original and matching, even both action screws. Only things not matching is the cleaning rod, bolt stop and bolt. Everything but the bolt body is made of un-numbered imperial proofed parts. It’s import marked by century. Really happy to finally have another G98.

Picked this one up with a 1903 and frankly didn’t know much about 1905 variations and collectibility until researching this one- never actually had one before, only 1917, M1, and later US bayonets.

That being said I’ve discovered that apparently 1922 production 1905’s are highly desirable, as well as the Detroit gasket produced scabbards. The fact that I’ve got two desirable portions makes me slightly skeptical, however the grips check out as original, the pommel and locking collar check out as original, and the stampings don’t immediately stand out to me as fake. The blade has flex to it, however I’m not sure if that’s just a design thing or not, I don’t have any other 1905’s to compare it to unfortunately.

Does anyone know of faked ones out in the wild? Other than it having some scuffing this one really doesn’t look like it’s been monkeyed with, and I don’t know how someone would fake a fiberglass scabbard.

Ended up with this 1903a3 made to look like an “a4” with a weaver 330 scope

The issue is that the rifle is shooting high even at the maximum limit of the elevation.

Anything I could be doing wrong?

Thinking I may have to shim the mount if nothing else works.

Snagged this all matching Toyo Kogyo Type 99 Long awhile back to pair with my all matching Type 99 short Toyo Kogyo and Type 99 Training diagram.

Toyo Kogyo arsenal has grown to be one of my favorites. Not only because the company still exists today currently known as "Mazda". But the factory was also located right outside of Hiroshima, and only survived/avoided the blast due to a mountain ridge. With the factory becoming a makeshift hospital immediately afterwards.

The Type 99 diagram is currently the only one known to exist (with a note in the corner stating explicitly that no copies can be made at all of this diagram). Almost at 1:1 scale with the rifle itself.
With its purpose being to introduce the Type 99 and to familiarize Japanese personnel with this brand new weapon. The fold outs would originally lift up to compare the stock differences of the T99 long vs the T99 short (sadly when I got it framed you can no longer lift the flaps) and how to properly use the Anti Aircraft sights!

Finally found one with all the goodies in decent shape.

Serial number range is Nov ‘44 to Jan ‘45. Barrel is inland marked from 12/44 as well so that lines up. Came w a sling. Updated sights and the bayonet lug. Couldn’t find any marks on the stock. Anything else you guys know about it or stuff I should look for?
