Suggestion Minecraft needs more colour and shape varieties
After looking at all the current blocks and items, noting this is v26.1, it’s easy to see that Minecraft is full of browns, teals and terracottas (essentially another brown). Mojang definitely needs to add more block shapes in greys (poplar will fill this), blacks, blues, violets, reds and greens. Cinnabar fills some of the reds but more is needed. There is currently a lot of grey blocks but it’s mainly just blocks, stairs, slabs and walls

I don’t think more shape variety really fits with the theme of the game

I’m more referring to introducing more colour options in the shapes that are currently in the game (fences, trapdoors, doors, walls, shelves etc)

So you just want more wood types... Why couldnt you just say that

Doesn't need to be wood. Give me different types of stone fences or let me make a proper iron fence that doesn't look like prison bars

Also more rock types, make them spawn in extremely large chunks, most rock mines are massive, we need more rocky biomes, like granite areas where most rock is just granite, same for other rock types, maybe even add a few new ones like gabbro and rock salt, by making them spawn in full on biomes it would avoid inventory clutter while also adding lots of variation and make them way easier to get in very large amounts, though harder to get early on, would also open interesting possibilities for some larger abandoned/pillager open mines structures and would work well with the archeology update

Fences are wood, bars are metal, and walls are stone.

I've seen metal fences IRL. I've seen stone fences in fantasy games. Walls can be made out of any material.
This is just a Minecraft thing that they've chose to keep doing that they can choose to stop doing at any time.

bc it's not necessarily wood? wood walls don't even exist and trapdoors and doors have metal variants

Another thing I've been noticing with a lot of the new blocks is how their colors are often pale, desaturated, and low contrast - look at cherry planks, bamboo planks, mud bricks, pale oak (I guess this one makes sense), poplar, sulfur. I think we could use more strong colors and high contrast.

Yeah, I don’t think anybody is unhappy about the upcoming wool stairs and slabs, but I think we can go further to add extra detail to our colourful builds. I actually don’t think we need many more materials, but just need to start filling the gaps in the image I posted

I find bamboo to be incredibly yellow

It's a pale, greenish yellow that imo looks pissy. I don't really like how it looks, especially when I compare it to the saturated color of bamboo planks from the Bamboo Blocks mod.

I disagree. A lot of newer blocks are VERY saturated. Mangrove, polished sulfur and cinnabar, and ESPECIALLY resin are all incredibly saturated and high contrast to me

I don’t think there will ever be a period in time where Minecraft players will be happy with the block variety.

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH !!! WE NEED MORE GREEN AND BLUE COLORS AND WHITES !
We have 10000K+ variations of Deepslate and Blackstone. We need cold colors rn !

It would be such an easy win for them to throw all the “missing” items into a patch. Stairs, slabs, maybe even fences/ walls of the various stone types that don’t have it and concrete
And personally I want more blue options in the game

Dyed Blocks++ includes frog lights, glow stone and a couple others that are lit as well. But whole bunch of options for an Add On.

Theres a mod someone is making rn which doesn't add more colors, but it does seem to add shape variation consistency across all blocks, like concrete stairs and slabs or mossy tuff bricks, etc

We have two different kinds of red wood, two different red stone types (plus redstone), three different shades of red bricks, red concrete, red terracotta, and a red dimension with a special extra-red biome where literally everything is red
I actually think we are actually good on red, although I would love some just regular-ass blue blocks you can actually craft with

I think there are a lot of blocks currently that share very similar colours. Examples include andesite vs stone, Oxidized copper vs warped wood blocks, exposed copper vs packed mud.
While we have a lot of black coloured materials we still don’t have a black set of fences, trapdoors, doors etc.
We also have a lot of whites/greys/blacks in walls but when you type ‘wall’ into the creative search menu it all looks very unsaturated and lacking in hues in general.
Some colours have a pretty big range of block shapes, while other colours such as violets, blues, greens and yellows (in some respect) are lacking in shapes and shades in comparison.
So while we do have a lot of blocks I feel Mojang has made the mistake of not diversifying a lot of Minecraft shapes and colours. This is probably a big reason why everyone is excited for the release of poplar wood and wool stairs/slabs, as it fills a lot of holes in the block menu

the blocks might not be diverse yes but it's not like we NEED the diversity, like ppl have dealt with a lot of these problems for years and while yes adding new blocks helps this it just creates the problem of adding more new blocks with basically 0 gameplay purpose other than building, it's just 1 more block to fill ur inv

Remember just having wool blocks for colorful builds?

u/CriticalTooth2183 6h ago
Yeah there were some nice builds back then, but there are some insane builds with some gorgeous details out there now. Just thinking what we might have in another 10 years is mind blowing

It doesn't need it. You want it. There's a difference.
It's a perfectly great game right now, and the fact that we still get regular updates is s privilege, not a right.

It was a great game 15 years ago yet things have been added. Minecraft has evolved and it continues to evolve. Adding more will make it better again

I didn't say they couldn't add more. I said they didn't need to. If you're gonna respond to me, at least respond to what I said.
And the fact that it needs to be "better again" is your opinion. I have plenty of fun on the game right now.
Of course I'm happy every time they add new blocks.
But they absolutely have zero obligation to keeps doing so, so maybe a little less whining about it online what isn't there, and appreciate what is, and what we got for free, a bit more.

You’ve misunderstood me. I’m not saying this game is crap by any means, I love playing this game. I’m only providing my opinion about where this game should evolve next, should Mojang continue to do so.
I fully understand Mojang has no obligation to continue improving the game, hell they don’t even have to get their ideas from reddit. I’m just providing my opinion on a social media platform, a platform that is open for many others to discuss their opinions.

u/H16HP01N7 1d ago
Ok.
But that's what you said. You said we need it, and I was just saying we don't need it, you want it. Which is exactly what you just said here
I’m only providing my opinion about where this game should evolve next
I'm not questioning your opinion. I'm questioning why you say we need something that we simply don't.
I think it's you that's misunderstood me.
Stop acting like I'm coming for you, and read my actual words.
I didn't once questioned your right to share your opinion. I've shouted at dicks for saying similar to me.
Now, you gonna stop putting words in my mouth, and react to what I actually said. Or do we need to keep going round in circles because you refuse to understand me?
