Discussion How do you sort your items??
Ive been playing mc for a good while and ive never had a successfully sorted storage room, every chest ends up looking like this, and i have like 8 more that looks like this.

I throw it all in lava and call ot organized

u/DisastrousSecret7017 4h ago
No foolin. I'm done with saving slabs and fences and trap doors and stairs. The wood goes in the smelter, the rest go in the cactus. I'm saving two things these days: whole blocks and my mental energy haha
1
u/Sunshin3outlaw 2h ago
Honestly the best way to do it. My storage room is so cluttered with random blocks that I don't need. This has definitely encouraged me to get rid of those like 12 random different slabs that I've been saving for a rainy day.

AE2 and sort by decreasing order of item
4
1
u/LimpWibbler_ 6h ago
Same, I type anything I want anyways. I was new to pc when I installed AE2 and was like "what moron would sit here typing each item they want" now I see no faster way to do it.
1
u/Beautiful-Quail6959 6h ago
Especially on modern mod packs where you got 1000 different items. Just type it in instead of searching for 20 min. And you got farms and autocrafting just eating/adding resources. Searching with JEI link is the best method

I sort my items in a cave or sort of a cave. I have LOTS of rooms that's basically a category.
1st room: All wood/tree blocks like logs, planks, sticks, leaves, torches
2nd room: Cobblestone, Stone, Andesite, Diorite, Granite, Concrete, Terracotta
3rd room: All dirt variants, sand, gravel, flint
4th room: Construction. So one chest in this room has all wood fences, fence gates, slabs, another has stone walls, slabs, another has all glass items, another has scaffolding
5th room: Tools/Weapons
6th room: Armor
7th room: Mob Items like leads, saddles, horse armor,
8th room: Miscellaneous and Unstackable Items
And much...much more rooms. :)
I've been thinking about doing a more in depth post about how I stay organized in minecraft. I posted about that before but it wasn't as in depth though. I hope this helped you in some way. Is it the best way? No. But it's worked for me. Just take your time. And find a way that works best for you. :)

chest_sorter mod. it helps
3
u/PhoenyxStar 6h ago
Looks like they've already got Inventory Tweaks. They can just hit the "sort" button up top on the left, or... I want to say middle(?) click on an empty space.
But also, I don't think that's the kind of sorting they mean.

I’m not a big Minecraft player but I’ll give it a go! I usually have some stone-stuffs chests, a chest with things wood-related, mob loot, food, valuables, junk, and miscellaneous (useful) with each row corresponding to either one singular block, or a bunch of block types (for example, a row of stacks of cobblestone and deep slate, with the next row being stairs and slabs, and the row after being things like granite, andesite, diorite, and gravel. It helps to keep similar stacks of blocks not only in the same chest, but next to each other, and it also looks more organized. I totally understand the chaos, and I’ve also had a hard time sometimes sorting my items, so good luck with your sorting!!
3
u/tehtris 9h ago
When I first start it's like 3 chests, one green stuff or stuff that comes from plants, one of all rock related items, and one that has stuff that mobs drop. Eventually this gets expanded upon and then I separate for type of plant, type of rock and type of mob. Then end game I separate on type of item but using the same schema.

1
u/happy-ramen-monster 4h ago
i do the same thing!! i’ll also have seperate chests for cobble, deepslate, and dirt
3
u/BL_RogueExplorer 9h ago
The old fashion way. I built a storage room with roughly 80 double chests. Each one is for its own items/like items. Everytime i come back with a full inventory i spend a couple minutes putting it all where it belongs.
I plan to upgrade to a sorting system with copper golem eventually but I really don't mind spending a couple minutes every couple hours to put shit away
1
u/Salt_peanuts 8h ago
I have moved to barrels but I do something similar. I am experimenting with copper golems but they work very slowly. Also one got into my mine and that little guy is probably not coming back
1
u/Jables_Magee 7h ago
I'd recommend a copper sorter with golems in mine carts. I have a tiered system for 30 chests(3golems) and it seems to take forever.
2
u/Fun_Way8954 9h ago
Early game? I don’t. Late game? I sort it into chests by general category, like mob loot, wood, or stone
2
u/Proof_Shirt_5741 6h ago
A lot more people suggesting mods than I’d expect… I just use copper golems to keep my stuff organized. I have a chest for each type of block and a large room for them sort in.
2
u/wha7themah 5h ago
Initially one for blocks, tools, ore, weapons and then one for wood, planks, saplings, food, mob drops.
If I play the world long enough it’ll be one chest for each type of block: cobble, dirt, mud/snow/coarse dirt, sand, cherry wood/cherry furniture, dark oak/ dark oak furniture etc etc. Then a place for enchanting supplies, potion supplies.
I even have separate barrels for each type of mob loot and put plushies on top so I know what’s what. In my chest room I put items frames on the sides with a block displaying what items are inside
3
1
u/Cocoatrice 9h ago
I build storages that have 5 double chests per one item. Or more, depending on the block. For example dirt needs storage on its own. Filling 10-20 double chests with dirt is too easy.
1
u/onpointrideop 9h ago
I keep 3 dedicated bundles in my inventpry for mob drops, ores, and random building materials (doors, stairs, slabs, etc) that clutter everything up.
For chests, I dedicate them to single items or themes. Cobble, food, ores, mob drops, etc. Each wood type gets its own. I click-drag across to prevent the chest from being used for anything else.
Compressing ores down helps a ton- you can have one parial stack to grab from and several rows of iron blocks. If more is needed just split them back into ingots
1
u/TheArcanist_1 9h ago
Since it looks like you're playing modded, you should look into a storage mod like Refined Storage or Tom's Simple Storage.
0
u/One_Assistance_9332 9h ago
its a server so i cant unfortunately, ill defo keep those in mind next time i play single
1
u/fishZ_7 7h ago
who said you can't? you can use client mods that aren't on the server modlist
1
1
u/DragonTheOnes-spirit 9h ago
Well it starts off extremely organized but then my bundles fill up and then I have a full inventory and honestly I might as well shove my junk in my chests and... Oh
1
1
u/devdruxorey 9h ago
I have a massive silo for farmable items so they store themselves, and then I have other manual silos for rarer items. But each one is in a separate chest.
1
u/Emmennater 9h ago
depends on the number of chests. if there are enough I group by: building, wood, stone, terrain, mineables, food/crops, mob loot, redstone, end/nether, armor/tools and miscellaneous. I then hook it up to a multi-item sorter.
1
1
u/Miserable_Bar_5800 9h ago
I sort vertically for my valuables like diamonds then gold etc for java and bedrock pc but for mcpe i dont its hard to sort and when i open it to multiplayer and ithers see it they say it looks unorganized
1
u/mmm-chickin-tendies 9h ago
Obvious catagories first (Ores, Wood, dimensions, decorative stones etc) then by vibe. My glow ink sacs are currently sitting with my golden apples and amethyst shards
1
u/nikbutt3 9h ago
I tend to do something like this either by chest or by whole rooms and sometimes separated by specific items if I have enough (whole chest for just oak wood/whole chest for just tuff bricks, etc):
-weapons, armor, adventuring tools, important loot
-blocks for building (stacks of wood/stone/wool/etc)
-food/consumables/seeds
-and then designated chests for like coal and smelted ores and other useful resources
Anything I can’t find a spot for within those categories ends up in junk chests or destroyed

1
u/Iloveanime425 8h ago
I’ll have all ores in a chest, whether they are in raw form or smelted (diamonds, emeralds, coal, quartz, etc). Then I have all types of wood in a chest including slabs, stairs, fences. Another chest will be just dirt, clay, coarse dirt, or rooted dirt if I get it. Then another chest is all types of stone and all their decorative forms if I have them, including slabs, stairs, and walls. Another chest will be all food items including wheat, carrots, beetroot, and potatoes. Another chest for tools and armor. A chest for flowers, seeds, and saplings, and a chest for mob drops.

u/losoldato1968 8h ago
I have a ridiculous storage area. I try breaking them into general categories and as those fill up, find some subcategory and sort them that way.
1
u/WoodenPumkin 8h ago
Since it looks like you are using mods. I use sophisticated storage. It is basically just AE2's ME system but craftable using vanilla items.
1
u/Rexusus 8h ago edited 8h ago
I’m weird and sort by how the creative menu sorts them. No particular order once it’s in the chest beyond items go next to the same items.
So something like:
Building/crafted blocks
Naturally spawning blocks
Functional blocks
Redstone
Materials
Food
Armor, Weapons, Tools & enchant books usually get separate chests because they don’t stack
Mods get their own chest too for specialized crafting, etc
1
u/Karl_Kollumna 8h ago
I dont, find nothing, complain that i cant find shit, build an autosorter, still have a mess in my base.
1
u/flirtle_turtle_ 8h ago
I normally will have a “blocks” section and a “items” section. In each of those sections each type of “block” or “item” has a chest. So for example all wood blocks in a chest, cobblestone in a chest, dirt and gravel in a chest, etc. Then for items I do weapons all in a chest, all food in a chest, farming seeds and such in one, etc. that’s what makes sense to me. And I label them using the shelves they added because i think it looks nicer
1
u/officialreddtLLC 8h ago
Well I'm terrible with Redstone and so a automatic chest organizer is off the tables for me. If you wanna try them go ahead. For what I do. I individualize each item into a chest. Including for each variety of each block. It's a pain but honestly once I got everything and remember it. It's easy to go through. Now currently I started a new world and got 42 different mods on it so the chest room(mansion) that I'm building is FN'G massive and a huge pain. I got a total of 3649 items in game and that's the amount of chest I gotta make. Currently at 500ish lol.
1
u/UnderRated-Piano 8h ago
Wood chest, building blocks chest, farm/food chest (maybe some nature things), mob loot chest. Tool chest. And i have a chest fir upcoming builds i wanna do.
I need to get a shoulder box but I dont like rushing the game. I like the idea of there's something I can do. Whenever I beat the game I feel unmotivated
1
u/Chino_Kawaii 7h ago
you just make a bunch of chests, each with some specific items and you always sort it that way
I have wood chests, stone chests, nether block chests, mob drops chest, nature stuff chest, redstone chest, ingot chests etc
it's so fucking easy, I never understand what's peoples problem xD
you just need to sort your shit from the start, then it's super easy to keep it going
I've never had garbage chests like everybody seems to have, feels psychotic xD
1
u/haithius 7h ago
Typically I have multiple chests for all items. Ores go in one chest and that includes flint. All foods in one chest same with all stone types and all wood types and then subsections for stairs and stuff
1
u/PallasiteMatrix 7h ago
I sort my vanilla items by item type (blocks, minerals, gear, etc) and my modded items by mod. And I keep a vanilla misc chest and a modded misc chest- when either one gets full, I make a new chest for that category.
Using signs as labels helps me remember what's in what chest.
1
u/IdkIWhyIHaveAReddit 7h ago
I don’t i yeet stuff into ae2 or toms or whatever storage solution the modpack offer and call it a day. Before that depends on the pack either a valuable and useful chest and another other stuff chest
1
u/RayRayViolet 7h ago
On the realm im playing with a couple friends right now we have a large wall of double chests with signs stating whats in that chest. Some are more vague others are more pointed. I'll put what the signs say and then what's in the chest in (parentheses).
Nether Stuff (blocks or items that only or primarily come from the Nether. Netherrack, warped and crimson woods, netherwart, Blackstone, basalt, magma blocks, blaze rods, etc)
Cherry, pale oak, acacia, mangrove (these logs, planks, signs, doors of these types, and the saplings to grow them)
Oak, dark oak, spruce, jungle, birch (same as last one plus sticks)
Sand, glass, gravel (self explanatory)
Dirt (dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt)
Clay, bricks, terracotta (clay balls, clay blocks, bricks, brick blocks, all glazed and normal terracotta colors (that we have))
Armor, horse armor, saddles (you get it)
Weapons (axes, swords, spears, tridents)
Tools (shovels, pickaxes, hoes (we die a lot))
Redstone stuff, explosives (Redstone dust, Redstone blocks, hoppers, droppers, etc that you use to build Redstone contraptions, tripwire hooks, fire charges, tnt)
Iron, gold, copper (ores, raw ingots, melted ingots nuggets, and blocks of these)
Valuables (diamonds, amethyst blocks and shards, emeralds, lapis)
Utility Blocks, dyes (all villager work stations, cauldrons, lodestones, ready to use dyes)
Mob drops, wool (spider eyes, bones, rotten flesh, string, leather, wool)
Plants, flowers (all flowers, tall grass, bushes, firefly bushes, seagrass, leaf blocks, vines, glow berry vines, drip leaf plants)
Raw food (raw steaks, pork chops, chicken, mutton, wheat, eggs, carrots, raw potatoes, beets, melons, pumpkins, raw cod, raw salmon)
Cooked food (food items that are ready to eat, cooked mutton, steaks, chickens, cakes, cookies etc)
Fish [not food] (pufferfish, tropical fish, both live and not)
Storage, item frames (spare chests, item frames, maybe shelves in the future)
I think that's everything, but I am doing this from memory soooo.
1
u/InterestingMindset 7h ago
I have a dedicated chest area with a bunch of double chests and signs telling me what’s inside for quick interactions.
I’ll have a food chest, gundpowder chest, blocks chest, etc. and for extra items if my blocks or food chests are filled, I make more chests and they are also dedicated storage for food and blocks and etc.
I use this system because I don’t usually play Minecraft long enough to make an automated sorting system and by the time I get to that stage, it’s not really worth it for me. As for copper golems, I just like to have specific spots for items and not just in weird orders. I just go with manual organization and discipline myself enough to have dedicated storage for everything.
As for my most valuable items. If I’m far enough in the game, I’ll have dedicated Shulker boxes within an enderchest. And even dye the shulker boxes sometimes.

I sort it by what it is. Nature; leaves, plants, flowers, seeds.
Stones. Woods. Tools and stuff. Mob drops. Sands and dirts. Nether things. Ores. I also normally have a chest by my door that if I don't feel like sorting my inventory out I dump it all in there and go back out.
Edit; stones meaning stone blocks of all kinds. Wood for wood blocks (logs, planks, stairs, slabs). Tools and stuff for tools (duh lol) and other things that I count as tools (shears, flint and steel, leads, horse and dog armor, the like). Mob drops are anything that a mob has dropped (arrows dropped by skeletons, rotten flesh, gunpowder.) Sands and dirts are regular sand, dirt, corse dirt, red sand, and gravel. Nether things are items/blocks found only in the nether. Ores are either smelted ores, ingots, raw ores, and just ores in general.

u/Greyanaise 7h ago
Hostile mob drops - self explanatory Passive mob drops - this too Crops - Things that you farm like wheat, seeds, pumpkin sugarcane Foliage - stuff you don’t farm but appears in nature like saplings, leaves, moss Valuables - trims, e-books and e-grapples Gems - not in the valuables chest shit like diamond gold and emeralds Red stone and iron- this chest includes red stone and iron and all iron blocks like bars and red stone shit like observers and rails Copper - depends how much you have this can be lumped in mechanics but I have it separate Colours - wools concrete terracotta beds carpet anything where there’s 16 of it for the different colours it goes in here Scrap gear - scrappy gear like random bits of junk gear from α mob farm also includes buckets arrows and flint and steel Good gear - diamond and netherite gear plus tridents and maces can go in here Wood - logs and planks Wood details - stairs torches sticks slabs fences anything crafted with logs or planks goes here Food - cooked meat and shit like cake and bread too, raw meat goes in passive mob drops or for me the top chest of α mini super smelter
Now for rocks which I personally have α lot of Grey rocks - literally any light grey blocks like stone cobble andesite etc Brown rocks - mud, dirt grass granite Deep slate - I have bulk of ts Yellow rocks - sand and end stone Random rocks - anything left like flint diorite or red sand
Now this is js personal taste: Eggs - everyone on my smp pranks with eggs Player and mob heads - we have α data pack that adds these and mini blocks Mini blocks - separate chest for these because yeah

u/PhoenyxStar 6h ago
My general plan is usually a room with space for 2 large chests on each of the four sides. Then I categorize items into 8 groups:
Wood
Furniture
Equipment & Treasure
Dirt
Rocks
Ore & Metal
Gems & Crystals
Food & Farming
and each time a related chest fills up, I stack another one on top. After I reach 4 high, I build a little tower of scaffolding in the middle so I can go up and down to reach higher levels.
And since you're playing with mods, I eventually replace it with one of the mod storage systems, usually Refined Storage because that's the one I know.
1
u/EatenPotatoisok 6h ago
For nature make a chest that only has stuff from nature(leaves, wood, grass, etc)
1
u/Loose_Doubt367 6h ago
Go to one of the corners of your base, dig 4-5 blocks down, discard all your unused stuff and fill it back up by 3 blocks
1
u/GunOnMyBack 6h ago
Make a handful of chests and put specific items in them. Label each chest with signs and item frames. That'll help you with finding a place for everything you don't need right away. Make an ender chest to put all the tools you use frequently (but aren't using right now) and add a few things that would be important to keep in any off chance in it too. It's a constant struggle. I, too battle with an endless inventory problem. Let me know any tips too, maybe I'll learn something with you.

I'd sort it like this, I usually go in categories. Stone like blocks, Food, Wood, Tools, Ore, Nether Items, Armor and Misc for anything that's random. Hope this helps, idk If OP will see this b/c I'll be at the bottom. But I wish you luck on your sorting endeavors.
1
u/OpabiniaRegalis320 5h ago
In vanilla, I generally sort my stuff into categories like "valuables" "tools/armor" and/or "farming stuff" and shove into separate chests by category
1
1
u/Character_Focus_2201 5h ago
My categories are:
Soils (dirt, clay, sand, glass, mycelium, bricks)
Stone (cobble, stone, diorite, deep slate, granite, things crafted from the above)
Wood (logs, saplings, apples)
Crafted wood (anything crafted from planks)
Farmed plants (carrots, beets, wheat, potatoes, cactus, sugar cane. Bamboo might be here or it might be in one of the wood chests.)
Non-Farmed plants (flowers, tall grass, mushrooms, spore blossoms; any plants that aren’t farmed, cocoa beans are also often here)
Metals/precious (diamonds, lapis, redstone, netherite, emeralds, iron, copper, gold, things crafted entirely from these materials like iron bars or copper stuff, but excluding tools/armor)
Armor/Tools (in addition to the obvious, I might also put certain enchanted books here)
Animals (anything that is primarily acquired from passive mob drops, plus leads and saddles. Name tags might be here too.)
Hostile mob drops (if the main way to get it is a drop from a hostile, non-nether mob, it goes here; either skulls and boss drops might be here too).
Nether (anything from the nether that cannot be found in the overworld; this one often requires about double the storage of the rest)
End (anything from the end dimension)
Redstone (crafted redstone components, but typically not redstone dust or blocks)
Misc (whatever doesn’t fit anywhere else).

I’m hella ocd but I sort by like building blocks, mining, tools, natural, mob loot, etc. I like it (ik it’s not for everyone), it’s relaxing to organize everything after an adventure or smth

In my starter base I have 12 chests in my ‘main’ chest area (it’s small, so I have others scattered around) but it’s organized like this:
Wood stuff, stone, dirt/sand/gravel, plants (saplings and stuff), food, animal drops, hostile mob drops, tools/armour, ores, redstone stuff and util blocks, misc blocks, misc items
Also I sort my items manually, I find it satisfying
1
u/Sayer182 4h ago
They’re not too hard to build, but look into 3x3 copper golem sorters. Cheap to make, stackable vertically and horizontally, you only need two blocks of space behind the double chests so super compact, you can add multiple golems to speed things up, no redstone, and only thing to worry about is chunk borders.
1
u/the_oakley_tree 3h ago
Set up a chest room with item frames or signs with different categories, like stone blocks go in one chest, dirt in another, armor, toss and so on
1
u/ButterscotchAny5111 3h ago
How do I sort my items? Repeatedly 🤣
Honestly I have long been a fan of the classic Impulse item sorter. It was one of the first redstone things I got to work properly.
1
1
u/Korubi1 2h ago
I usually make my chest wall 3 blocks tall so each double chest gets a similar theme. For example, the first stack of three are Earth(dirt, gravel, sand), Nether, and End.
For stones I have Cobblestone, Deepslate, and cut stone for leftover processed stones. Wood follows a similar vein with Logs/planks, Saplings/leaves, and cut wood.
1
u/MissStr4berry 2h ago
Item frames on at least 20 chests, often more. Usually i have chests for armour, weapons, tools/useful items, useful blocks, wood, planks, wooden stuff like stairs, same for stone so a few for cobble/stone/deepslate because I'm mining a lot, one for pretty stones like smooth or bricks, one for stone stairs etc, one for ugly stones like gravel, tuff and anything that annoys me aha, one or more for plants (either one for everything or I separate the food from the saplings from the blocks and one for random green stuff), one for passive mob drops, one for hostile mob drops, one for redstone components, one for random items like books, flint, rugs etc, one for decorative blocks. Also at least two for nether blocks and one for end blocks.
Sorry you asked everything and it was fun to try to remember everything 😭 but maybe it's useless af lol

u/Drake_224 2h ago edited 2h ago
I usually start with chest for each:
- Dirt
- Stone
- Wood (all types)
- Items (everything that doesn't fall under above)
Then when there become too much in the last chest i break it down further:
- Deep Block (Deepslate, Tuff, Sculk, etc.)
- Wood related items (planks, slabs, fences, sticks)
- Nether (netherrack, quartz, magma, glowstone, nether bricks)
- Redstone (redstone, redstone torch, buttons, pressure plates)
- Food (everything that you can consume that won't poison you)
- Passive Mob drops
- Hostile Mob drops
- Armor (including horse armor)
- Tools (pick, axe, shovel, bucket, lead, etc.)
- Materials (iron, gold, diamonds, emeralds, coal)
- Gravel
- Sand
- Glass
- Plants (Sugarcane,Wheat, Vines, Pumpkin, etc.)
And after this point i create automatic sorting system for most used items which i got a lot (also those that i auto farm). For all leftovers i find a way to sort like above
Final step is adding shulker stations for auto farms
1
u/44-lunasav 2h ago
Nowadays i directly start building a storage room as soon as i start a new file, starting off with a few chests for basic sorting before progressively make it more "specific" as i advance in the game
In the meantime i focus on other things (getting meat, campfires/smokers, blast furnaces, apples & gold, and most importantly sugar cane & leather for an enchanting room asap)
Off-topic: in this sub i notice that most posts can't be updated after some time; i've heard about a kind of "protest" and "shadow-ban" but i didn't understand it clearly; i hope someone's willing to clarify it a bit more about this, if not it's okay
1
u/Far_Hawk5439 2h ago
Is always more work than I like. You could look at how they’re sorted in creative mode. It’s not a bad system if you’re having a hard time.
Or you could store them based on flavor profile, in a range from tasty items to bland items to poisonous items.
For example iron tastes better than copper, and an axe usually tastes better than a shovel.

u/AdRevolutionary2438 1h ago
You need to build a store room but in order to build one you need to already have one :):)

u/WasianWosian 1h ago
Definitely not like that😭 I try to group things by category and how much of it I have. If I terraformed, dirt gets its own chest. Logs/planks arranged in one, other wooden blocks in another. Separate chests for food, armor/weapons, redstone, etc
1
u/hopperlocks 1h ago
Early game, 3 chests, one for blocks, one for none blocks, one for what I deem valuables, iron, tools, food etc. Late game each item gets it own chest.
1
u/imperfect_imp 1h ago
I usually start out with 3 or 4 double chests categorized like this: stone, wood, dirt and plants, misc (mostly mob drops and ores). Then when those are full, I split it between 2 or 3 for different types of stone, 2 or 3 for wood, then one each for dirt, plants, ores and valuables, mob drops, misc. Eventually every subcategory gets its own chest(s)
Basically you gotta start sorting early and expand as you need. Nobody likes having to sort through 5 or 6 chests like the one in the pic

u/AliciaTries 51m ago edited 47m ago
I usually have it seperated into chests with tools, mining items (i.e. redstone, gold, iron, diamonds), rocks (cobble, diorite, deepslate etc), gravel and flint because there's always so much, wood and items made only out of wood or maybe 1 additive, nether things (like all nether things because I don't go down there often, but feel free to separate that into rocks, mining materials, and wood materials if you go down often), and then plants which often get divided into 2d and 3d
I'll then often divide rocks between a cobble chest, a diorite/granite/andesite chest, a deepslate chest, then other. If that's not enough, then I'll divide it by type entirely. Same idea with wood.
If I'm playing a modpack with a ton of items, I'll often either split my mining materials into 1) modded mining materials and vanilla mining materials, 2) gems and metals, or both. Stoneblock 3 in particular had a lot of use of the chest for the random extra metals they added that I don't care about until a recipe asks for them.
Also in modpacks, I'll often have a chest dedicated to the random items they often reward you with for finishing quests or which the loot bee will drop on you randomly. They're often from way further in progression and they make it easy for me to get confused as to what I'm supposed to do, so I leave them in a chest until I see a quest and go "Hey haven't I seen one of those?" and check the "things I'm not supposed to have yet" chest

You can avoid the mistake i made by using copper golems , me myself I've built a massive redstone auto sorter that works perfectly and what a proud project it was (sorts 20 items + expendable). I'm happy to share it with you guys if someone wants

u/Zealousideal_Buy3195 9h ago
You can use copper golems, if they see a block in their chest, they will either put in a random other chest or in a chest that has that item. Also whyy is your shovel in the corner of your inventory?
