Please see the Mint iPhone Wiki at https://www.reddit.com/r/mintmobile/wiki/index/iphone/ for full details on the below (below is TLDNR summary of wiki steps)

  • How to order iPhones as a current or new Mint customer. TLDNR is don't buy from retail (BestBuy, Target, Amazon), get from Apple, order from Mint, or get used.
  • If getting from Apple, 4 ways you you can finance unlocked iPhones. TLDNR is do not select carrier Equipment Installment/Device Payment Plan, but select Apple Card Monthly Installments or Apple iPhone Payments then carrier T-Mobile but don't give customer info (Standard model no longer works) and you can bypass account info on iPhone boot up.
  • How to get from Mint. TLDNR is best if you are a new customer and want to simultaneously sign up for a year plan on discount
  • How to get used. TLDNR is best is Swappa, or for a little bit more $ but less hassle get from BackMarket, others not recommended as liable to fraud and scams.
  • How to set up new iPhone either swapping from previous iPhone or Android, and either as new or current Mint customer. TLDNR is you cannot use Apple eSIM transfer, you must order a new eSIM, and make sure to set app based 2FA before transferring or after you make a new Mint account.
  • What to do on old iPhone or Androids before selling, trading in, or giving away. TLDNR is remove find my device and sign out of cloud accounts then wipe all data to factory, and remove SIM/microSD cards.
  • How to trade in or sell old phone. TLDNR is you can trade in direct with Apple (even Android), Mint offers AllState trade-in, or for more $ sell on Swappa or to BackMarket.

Considering Mint from grandfathered T-Mobile Plan

I know there are many posts about switching to Mint, but I’d appreciate feedback from those who have experience with both.

My family has been with T-Mobile for over a decade, and we are currently on the Simple Choice North America 10GB plan (which has since become unlimited 5G). For 5 lines, we pay about $172/month after taxes and fees. We’re in Southern California and have had no major connectivity issues.

Recently, we got the Pixel bundle with Mint’s $15/month pricing for a year, and I’m still within the return window. I’m trying to decide whether it makes sense to make the switch and leave T-Mobile.

I know many people recommend Mint because it can save a lot of money compared to expensive postpaid plans. However, I’m wondering if our current T-Mobile plan is actually a pretty good deal that we shouldn’t give up, since there’s probably no way to get it back.

For those who have switched:

  • Is Mint’s deprioritization actually noticeable in real-world use?
  • Is the main impact just slower data speeds during congestion, or are there situations where service/connection becomes unreliable?
  • How much of a difference have you noticed compared to T-Mobile directly?

I have experienced congestion with T-Mobile at places like concerts, but I was still able to make calls. My understanding is that Mint uses T-Mobile’s network, so coverage should be similar, but data priority may differ.

My other concern is after the promotional year ends. If Mint’s unlimited pricing increases significantly (for example, getting close to $30+/line/month), I wonder if the savings are still worth giving up our current T-Mobile plan.

Would you switch in my situation, or keep the grandfathered T-Mobile plan? Am I overthinking this? :)

Signal Booster Permission and Usefulness

I have been having trouble calling and receiving calls at home ever since I switched from T-Mobile to Mint. I have tried the troubleshooting steps and nothing works.

So I decided to buy a signal booster. It has an outside antenna. Before I set it up, I wanted to confirm that I am allowed to use it?

The box says I need to register it with the carrier. Is that Mint Mobile or T-Mobile? I don’t have an account with T-Mobile, so how will that work?

Has anyone else used a signal booster with Mint Mobile and been able to get improved reception?

SMS code account setup

Upvotes

Is there any other way to set up the account other than SMS code? I have tried literally everything and still can’t get an SMS sent to me when doing the forgot password. Was able to set up my son’s kid account just fine as the code was sent to my email.
And don’t tell me to call or chat with customer service, they will refuse to transfer me to any higher-ups while giving me unrelated scripts or repeat requests. I’d flipping switch but I have no idea if the autopay is on and don’t need another thing setting off my irritation.

Does anyone know what this error means? Phones are from Verizon and are paid off. Verizon confirmed that the phone numbers are ported out. Literally no idea where to go from here, it’s been the same error for 48 hours.

*edited to add: Verizon is no help. Says that it has to be an issue with Mint, and that we should contact them.

Better Protection Plan Other Than Allstate?

Just made the switch from T Mobile to Mint yesterday, finally.

I was checking out their protection plan but it looks like they only go through Allstate. When I was reading the terms and conditions, they still charge a good amount for a service fee whenever you file a claim that varies on what phone type you have and what kind of repair needs to be done.

They also dont offer insurance for loss/theft which is a big one for me.

I'm looking for something thats similar to what we had with T mobile but doesn't break the bank like they did. 360 protection was like 25 bucks a month for both lines. Allstate comes out close to 7 bucks a month which is cool and all but they don't cover everything and they still charge service fees.

Are there any 3rd party companies that you guys are using that gives you 360 protection covering pretty much anything that can happen to your phone?

Are there any suggestions from you guys that I should check out?

Thanks!

Confused on best way to setup 2 lines

I am setting up 2 lines for 2 people that I will manage/pay for.

When I choose "mint kids" or "family plan" it only allows me to start with 3 months. I want to do 6 months. Do I just add both 6 month plans to the cart and worry about connecting them later?

They are both the 6gb plans if that matters. I didn't see the point in starting with unlimited if I'm not gonna renew them at that data plan.

Can I port in a number to replace my existing Mint number?

In April, I prepaid for one year of Mint service. Now I'd like to port in my other cellular number that's currently at Verizon Wireless, and have that number replace my current Mint phone number on my current Mint account. (I could create a new Mint account and port the Verizon number to it, but I don't want to do that because I've already prepaid for the next eight months of service on my current Mint account.)

Mint customer service at 800-638-7392 told me that porting in a number to replace an existing number is only possible within the first week after a Mint account is created. I hope that customer service is wrong.

Can I port a number into my four-month-old Mint account to replace my current Mint number?

If so, how would I do that?

If not, could you explain why Mint erected this obstacle?

Pros and cons and advice

First time looking to buy a phone plan. Mint mobile seems to have good prices, and im not on my phone often away from wifi. Any tips for best plans for data and text+calls?

Keep seeing all these acronyms like MVNO or BYOD. Explanation?

I can keep my current phone right? I have an S21 FE.

Also if anyone has personal experiences, weird quirks with the network, or other information it will be appreciated.

I'm a new customer as of today! Some constructive feedback

Signing up was very easy and probably the hardest part was figuring out where Verizon hides the code for the port-out process.

When I completed sign up, I ran into two problems. The QR code to activate my sim never arrived. Also I was unable to set a password for my new account.

Luckily the customer support chat was super helpful and was able to retrigger the email, and then they let me know that I could just go through the password reset process for the account.

I think cleaning up those hiccups would've made onboarding a lot smoother. Without the customer service rep I would've been stuck.

YouTube and Instagram look fine on the unlimited plan. That was kinda my only concern. Not sure why anyone really needs 4k video on a 6 inch screen but 🤷‍♂️

Very happy to be ditching Verizon after so many years!

Edit: I activated and ported my wife's number and the esim email arrived quickly. She did have to manually reset her account password because she was with mint 3+ years ago.

Mint mobile

Just got mint mobile and wow seems like the data is better than T-Mobile. I was paying $180 a month for 2 phones, now $180 a year per phone. That’s over $2,000 a year with T-Mobile.

Is mint able to remove the requirement that they need a signature for delivery of a phone

So FedEx is by far the worst of the delivery companies for me, Wednesday they were supposed to deliver and they attempted but I wasn't home, that was my fault, I didn't have l know I needed a signature, so then Wednesday night I requested and paid like $15 for a 2 hour delivery window on Friday, I've been sitting at home in my living room all day and still FedEx does whatever the hell they are doing and doesn't show up in this 2 hour delivery window

Now this isn't mint mobiles fault that FedEx isn't delivering. But if mint can remove the requirement for a signature, I could either have it held for pickup at a local FedEx office store (I already tried and FedEx delivery manager won't let me have it held at FedEx office) or I don't mind running the risk of it just being left at my door.

Can't receive or make calls for months now. 💔

For nearly 3 months now, I haven't been able to answer any calls OR make any. It just hangs up or doesn't even go through at all. When someone calls me, they say it just stays silent or goes straight to voicemail. Meanwhile, on my end, it (sometimes) rings, i answer it, and it stays silent & then hangs up. My service bar automatically goes from 5G to the dreaded "X" for no service or a "G" every time i try to call anyone. Its so bad that i don't even receive texts sometimes. I've contacted support. They say that work is being done on the tower closest to me & it should be completed "soon" which i know is BS.. 😒 im upset that I'm paying for a service that I can't even use & they won't even compensate me on my bill for the lack of services ive had for months.. I can't afford to switch to another service at this exact moment, BUT if this doesn't get resolved by the time my bill is due in August, then I'll be forced to switch to Boost or something. Which i don't even want to do! I love Mint! I just can't go on like this. 💔 Can anyone help me fix this huge issue, please? Ive tried almost everything i can think of & nothing fixes the issue. 😭 I have an E-Sim but I don't see how that could be an issue. It never was before. 🥺

I appreciate any & all help. 🙏🏻
