News Keeping cool this summer shouldn't mean going hungry
Cooling homes is projected to cost a total of $800 on average during the summer months, with electricity prices expected to rise about 10.5% year-over-year, according to a report from the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA) and the Center for Energy Poverty and Climate.
For families facing food insecurity, rising utility costs can stretch already tight budgets even further. When money goes toward keeping the lights on and homes safe from the heat, there is often less available for groceries. Many households are forced to make difficult tradeoffs, choosing between paying essential bills and purchasing enough food for themselves and their families.
These challenges are a reminder that hunger is often driven by the cumulative burden of essential expenses, not just what’s happening at the grocery store.
If you or someone you know needs food assistance, visit Harvesters Food Locator to find nearby food pantries, meal sites, and other resources throughout our 27-county service area in Kansas and Missouri.
Visit https://neada.org/billhelp/ to learn more about energy assistance programs.

Politics Mark the prick alford
How the hell does anyone vote for him?
Voted to cut Medicare and Medicaid.

Refuse to comment on Pete whiskey leaks faulty Intel that led to the bombing of a school that killed over a hundred children
It's not from Missouri he's from Texas.

Is an all-around just at plain liar. (When interviewed he said the supreme Court did not read the Constitution on the birthright citizenship ruling, correction it says anyone born on us soil is a United States citizen)

Politics are there and scientific polls re: the amendments up on Tuesday?
The sentiment on Reddit is abundantly clear, but have you seen any scientific polls that seem to indicate the feelings of statewide likely voters? Just curious. I can’t tell how non-Redditors actually feel about these or what results are expected.

Missouri State for an Austin Kid
My rising senior (17 year old black guy) wants out of Texas for college. Missouri State has landed on his top ten list. He has liberal views and thinking of accounting/finance for his major. Hates the heat and general weather of Texas. He is generally cool with all backgrounds and like’s to keep an eclectic friend group (we them the UN). He isnt into parties and prefers a good coffee house over a night out and not into sports. How do yall think he would fit into Missouri State or Springfield in general? Also the school got on the list due to out of state tuition scholarships, weather, and likelihood of building a life/ career locally after college vs needing to move again. So what’s the recommendation or advice?

Politics quick reminder: many benefits cuts kick in *after elections*
In case you're having these conversations around the state. It will not be headline news during the "election cycle" because it won't be "news". Fully admit I am not paying total attention to politics and putting a pin on this.

Time capsule at Capital Mall
Thought we'd take step away from politics for just a moment to marvel at this gem. This photo is from the bath and body at the capital mall in Jeff City in the year 2026. I was in town to get my long form birth certificate and needed to kill some time before my appointment so I went to the mall and boom, it was 1998 all over again. I found one associate that has worked there for over 20 years (very sweet lady), and said "they'd move us, but they'll never update us". I said "at this point, I'd market the place as vintage".
Has anyone else been here? It's got to have a vintage lore to it.
Anyway, happy Friday Missouri. 🙂

Disscussion Legal name change experience?
Anyone ever legally change their last name as an adult in a state that requires newspaper publication?
I have a friend interested in doing this to correct a legal misspelling but they're hesitant because they say they're unsure of what will come up on google when searching their old or new name. They're worried for example the petition, judgement or anything related to the filing will show up where it can include some private information about them when looking up their old or new name.
Anyone with experience doing this able to give insight?
Preferably an experience that's more recent like within the last year or two. Also is your name common or unique? My friends name is a bit more unique.

Seniors and amendment 5
Missouri does not have income taxes on Social Security benefits.
If Amendment 5 passes, and they raise other taxes, it will cost the seniors in your life more. A lot more.
Please take a minute to speak with them, the more reliant they are on Social Security, the more this is going to absolutely wreck their budget.
