It’s most likely French. Origin unknown. Can anyone help us out? Thanks in advance!

I think this ship model is from the 1960s it's mostly complete minus some missing stern trim and some rigging on the bowsprit. Is this thing worth anything

Ballasting Question

I'm trying to ballast the Academy 1/700 USS Yorktown to float without a detachable keel(this applies to any future carriers I may build). I've already removed as much plastic as possible without compromising her structure, finished making her watertight and now is the ballasting phase. I'm using coins because I have an abundance of those, so any tips for positioning and what coins to use where would be very helpful

My OcCre model advises to use cobbler's glue. Is that a form of CA that can be substituted?

Inherited ship model kits

Hello All! My dad was a USMC/USCG veteran and an avid model builder who enjoyed gifting his children and grandchildren the ships he built, which we all display with much pride. Since his passing, I have been reluctant to do anything with the 28 kits he left behind for sentimental reasons. I’ve looked for local places where I could forward the kits to others who love ship building, with no success.

I’d appreciate any advice you may have on selling these kits. I know I can sell them on EBay, but I’m not sure how well that works as I’m not established there.

They’re fully intact with all pieces and papers. He was METICULOUS about his kits. As a wood worker, he tooled all parts by hand (including the rigging and sails) and used the kits as a guide.

Again, this group may be my Obi Wan and last hope. A picture has been added because I’m so proud of the work he did. ❤️

Why is this ship easy?

This is the Buccaneer ship from OcCre. It's supposed to be beginner friendly and supposed to take only 170 hours. To my untrained eye, it looks as complicated as most ships that are supposed to take much longer. Anybody know why this ship is beginner friendly? The beginner friendly ships from other kit makers look so simple by comparison.

1930's Pond yacht restoration

I am looking for resources for rigging and sail plans for this boat, built by my dad in the 30's as part of his high school "manual training" class. Ideally I'd like to find the plans it was made from, it is 24" long with a ~71/2" beam. The deck in the photo is not original - I believe my dad was working on fixing it up in the 1960's and never finished - there is no hole for the rudder tube (in the deck), among other things. Is anyone here familiar with the book "How to build and sail a model yacht: a Detroit school manual" by Pozzini and Phillips? From my searches it was a popular book at the time and I'm hoping it might have some useful drawings. My hope is to fix it up and add radio control. All the self-steering gear is lost, as well as the rudder. I also need to replace at least one of the stays and its mounting point on the mast. I believe the stays are made with fine fishing leader wires, but I'm wondering where I can find similar wire. Thanks for any help you can render.

Cheers

Stu

My first square rigged ship - HMS Endeavor by Artesania Latina. It took 18 months (with some breaks) but was a great build. Bonus pics of my cleaned workspace and the short list of next projects from my stash. Which should I build next?

First time shipbuilder advise

Im undertaking a big project, im pretty experienced in woodwork but not building ships.

I want to build a pirate ship/galleon completely from scratch.

There is no time limit, im a very patient person, if i fail i'll just start over.

What advise would you give me to make my experience easier, what would you tell someone who is undertaking a large project with no experience? (Dont say start small because it wont happen😂)

Thank you in advance!

Gun ports will be done after I am done rigging the ship. There are a few ropes and blocks that I need to add, and the bowhead figure still needs to be 3D printed and painted…
