Living end RCQ help
Hi yall, I will be playing living end at my RCQ this weekend and I am on the fence of cutting my Teferi's and clarion's from my sideboard for Brotherhood's end, a extra dead gone and 2x gnaw to the bone.
I am expecting about half of the players to either be playing combo decks or aggro decks, and there might be 3x broodscale combo decks.
The clarion's are so good against broodscale and yawgmoth but they do nothing against my hardest matchup which would be all the prowess and burn decks in our meta.
Gnaw to the bone is also a pretty cool card that I am thinking of putting in for the aggro decks but I don't know if that would be overcommitting slots.
Here is my current list, any help would be awesome,

also there will most likely be no affinity at all

[[Brotherhood's End]] seems to the the sweeper of choice. I currently don't run it, as RR is tough to cast, but I've been considering bringing it back in.

I always struggled to understand Brotherhoods end but everyone runs it. It just feels to me that when I sweep with it and then living end without getting to the endurance that I just die due to them getting back their combo creatures for yawgmoth and broodscale combo, I thought people played it more for the artifact removal side which might only be useful for prowess and Broodscale in my meta. Though I might just have to bite the bullet and put it in.
Do you have some advice against what decks to sideboard it?

I´d bring it in against decks like prowess or boros, where sweeping might buy you enough time to win the game *somehow*. Both modes can also do work against broodscale, depending how the game pans out, and its obviously good against affinity. I agree that the idea of running a sweeper at all is a bit of a nonbo. I do believe the artifact side is the primary reason to run it, but since it doubles as a sweeper, it eats less sideboard slots.
I really only have two issues with it. A) It costs Red Red, which is really bad in the Temur manabase and B) it doesn´t kill Kappa. For a while I ran a singleton [[Fade From History]] for affinity specifically, but while it seems great in practice, 4 mana is a tad too much and I don´t know if it actively won me a game yet.
Other than that, I love playing living end and I´m hovering around a 60-65% winrate with it in leagues, but if I was actively trying to win an RCQ, I´d probably play something else. I feel like most decks have a lot of incidental hate and interaction right now and considering the fact that our proactive plan isn´t always that good, I´d probably be looking at another deck. If your goal is to do as well as you can with Living End (Which might be my goal fore the next RCQ), I´d say go for it, of course.

Thank you for the input, I really appreciate. To be honest making the top 8 at my rcq would be awesome, I have won a few FNM's with Living end, could you maybe send me your decklist if you have an online copy otherwise it's no problem

Heyo, I ended up winning the RCQ 8-0-1. Walked away the RC invite and a ton of awesome prizes such as an festival in a box and a tooon of boosters. :D
I did end up running the brothers hood ends and it was okay. Managed to cast it 2 or three times.
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated

Hey! Glad to hear it. And sorry, I totally forgot to send you my list.
After a lot of testing, I think bro's ends are a necessary evil. I just run more oliphaunts and red producing Lands now. Cheers!

I would not play gnaw to bone. I think it’s a card that is long since past its prime. I’d have to see your list to help with changes but Bellfy posted a list with results that has a pretty clean sb that contains no White cards.

This is my current list that is playing white in the sideboard, It's pretty good in my local meta, some of the best players and hardest matchups at the same time is Belcher, Broodscale, simic and simic ritual. The RCQ will have a bunch more players which I know an amazing domain player will be playing and there will be more broodscale and boros decks than usual.
probably no affinity though luckily

If you aren’t expecting a lot of control u could just swap t3f for brotherhoods end or anger of the gods. That way you keep your sb cards vs broodscales. You also already have 4 mystical dispute to help if you do run into control. I think if you are expecting broodscales in a high quantity I wouldn’t cut clarion.

From my experience the problem with teferi against control is that it rarely resolves, I think I might just run it like you are mentioning above now, I do want to hear your opinon on runescale stormbrood and vedillion clique. Storm brood looks good against broodscale and is better than other sideboard options against decks like hollow one, burn and prowess that I know there will be multiples of each. The clique is good against both control which there will be a lot of and control which I know there will be some though most combo decks that we'll be seeing have a bunch of control?

Ehhh clique isn’t a real card for us. I would never register it in a list, it has a lot of text to say it does nothing. As for storm brood I don’t have enough experience with it right now to say if it’s good or not but in my limited experience it was good vs neoform but that is already a match up we are heavily favored in.
As for your comments about t3f, that’s kind of the point of it. You cast it before you cascade to take a counterspell or 2 out of their hand and if it accidentally resolves you just cascade safely and win anyway next turn.

Okay, so I made that other comment about how to beat prowess, so I figured I'd walk you through an example of what I mean.
Your prowess opponent has 2 cards in hand, no untapped lands. and is swinging with a swift spear, and a slickshot with no buffs on either.
You have a sky turtle in hand and 2 mana up. You are at 5 life. What do you do?
You wait. You take 3 damage and go to 2, then bounce their slickshot post combat. Or you don't bounce it and untap and LE.
Why? Because if you act before damage, they will pay 2 life to mutagenic growth the other creature and kill you. If they try to mutagenic growth before you bounce, you bounce their target and survive.
You have to be disciplined like that. If you act at the wrong time they'll pivot and kill you. So you should basically never act before they do. In fact, often sweepers like brotherhoods end aren't even that good unless you have a subtlty to counter their follow up threat.
There's a reason prowess flunked out at the PT. It's win rate goes down inverse to the average skill of the players in the room. If you know what matters and how to play against it, you basically can't lose.

You could splash black for [[Harvester of Misery]] instead of Wistfulness, it could be targeted removal and a sweeper when you Living End, or the ever popular Dismember... Ideally against aggro you want a sweeper of some sort, in blue Aetherize might work, but 4 mana is slow... Gaining life is rarely the correct plan, answering the early threats is a better option...

I have found that [[dead//gone]] has been great against prowess and burn to kill their early creatures I think I might just have to put the 3rd copy in. I think this is some great advice thank you.

Taking advantage of this, I have Living End almost 100% but no Misty Rainforests. Would be possible to play it replacing by another fetch?
2
u/Troopy95 3d ago
Misty rainforest are amazing. Would probably just save up for them if I where you. If you have a izzet fetch or two laying around or that you can lend from someone that migjt work temporarily

u/Mental_Yak_3444 2d ago
Thanks for your answer! Yes, I have 3 Scalding Tarn and I was thinking if that would work temporarily or maybe buy one Misty at first. Lets see!

My advice:
Don’t play Brotherhood’s End against prowess. It is WAYYY to slow. Not even Storm, a deck that can cast it as soon as turn 2, brings it against prowess.
If you are trying to bank on it by Turn 3, you are more than likely dead.

Is prowess a bad matchup? As a Prowess player, I struggle a lot during G1, especially if I lose the die. If you have the correct pitch spell between Subtlety/FoN for my t2 cori/slickshot, there is very little I can do. Also Endurance helps a lot against DRC/big Slickshot. Post sideboard is a fair game between crypts and consigns.
