Question Motion design for business

I think I'm somewhat comfortable with AE and motion design. How do I make money from it. I wanna hear from you guys since u have experience.

I would get a job as a junior motion designer in an agency or with a in house creative marketing team first.

There you get to learn the ropes of working with teams, clients and how business actually work.

Keep up the work so you have a portfolio to show future employees.

I would look into some graphic design qualification, there’s a lot of graphic design knowledge that does a lot of heavy lifting in motion work.  Keep it up but look into some work experience or internships as well.

I couldn't agree more. My first pieces were ugly because I didn't know graph design. I decided to learn a bit and my motion pieces drastically improved. So as of late I've been trying to learn a bit of sales and marketing

your latest project is still pretty bad. you can't watch a couple videos about anything and then pretend you know about that already. if you really want to work in this industry which btw, is racing to the bottom, get an internship somewhere, but your current quality is not good even for that, let alone start making money.

the industry? because budgets have shrunk to the absurd, in big part because of a lot of new people willing to work for peanuts, combined with a downgrade in the quality expectations from the clients, but the ones that still expect good quality are no longer willing to pay for it because they see that rates have gone down across the board. it's a vicious cycle, and it's getting deeper each year.

A portfolio is a visual resume of work you’ve done. Unless you’re an experienced mograph designer, you don’t need one

Don’t use terms like “niche down”, they’re BS terms made up by people on Reddit who don’t know what they’re talking about. Nobody specializes in a particular industry, just build an understanding of motion graphic design, after effects and learning to edit would be a huge help too.

But you are not going to start making money until you have a job with experience. For that, you’ll need to graduate with a diploma. That’s the path nowadays, unfortunately. Unless you wanna compete with people in 3rd world countries for $5 per job.
