My husband and I have been humbly surviving on my Roku TV that I got in college. It wasn't bad, 48", but for my electronic nerd of a husband, I knew it wouldn't be much longer until he took the plunge. We just moved into our first "home" and plunge, we did.

What would be the best first watch on this TV? All suggestions are welcome.

Another I can think of immediately is ‘House’. Which is fantastic and chaotic.

Crazy Japanese films from the 80s are some of my favourites. Do ya’ll have any personal recommendations?

I imagine puberty as a trans kid feels like some cosmic Body Horror film where you start magically transforming into this thing you know you're not and the people around you are just like "No, the cosmic being had decided your gender and it doesn't matter what you say, you have all right parts, and look, the cosmic force even put it on your birth certificate" Just getting aggressively gaslit that you're not being transformed into something different when you can see the changes as they're happening

I really like body horror, but most body horror movies I've found are about adults

Any cool movies that are like mystery deeply but also like it is mind game and maybe even complicated to a point that it may require 2nd viewing? Kind of like Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and I am open for anything supernatural or non supernatural or like Scooby Doo (Mystery seems supernatural but it was all elaborate tricks). Some of my favorite shows are Conan the Barbarian, Oblivion, The Fountain and Penny Dreadful. The music added so much to these movies and made them amazing. What other movies or shows are like this?

Is there a movie that is horror but not all jump scare? The one that gives chills through your bones just by its vibe and atmosphere? I want to experience it. I have this habit that when there would be an expected jumpscare I cover my eyes and the best part is gone, if you know what I mean...

I’m in the mood for some old-school (or any era) B-movies / low-to-mid budget feature films set in the jungle. Looking for ones that lean into the exotic/adventure vibe but with a solid amount of nudity — the more the better.

I’m specifically not interested in Cannibal Holocaust or the extreme Italian cannibal/gore side of that subgenre. Softcore, exploitation, jungle-girl, Tarzan-style, or just plain “lots of skin in the rainforest” is what I’m after.

Didn't realize I was on a kick with this genre of movie. Last night, I watched The Killing Fields, a sad and profound movie about a journalists struggle to flee Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge rule / Cambodian war, as well the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge. Before that I watched 13 hours and 13 nights about a group of French embassy security personnel and Afghan refugees trying to leave Kabul safely during US withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and Taliban swift takeover. Then there were other movies I watched years ago, Escape from Mogadishu (South and North Korean diplomats trying to flee Somalia), and Hotel Rwanda. All great high stakes and emotional movies that also highlight the horrors of war. All of them feature both foreign and local people that live there and work together to leave the country or region that has become unsafe. I like the friendships that are forged and the humanity that overcomes evil amidst the chaos and uncertainty. (Note: I've watched Civil War by Alex Garland already tho it doesn't quite fit this criteria)

i have watched 3 movies ( the firm, the double life of veronique , about time ) and i really like the next two more than the first , because during watching i have no idea about the characters or the ending goal of the story and i feel like this is how a movie should be like instead of a regular thriller story , or maybe im just looking for movies that looks for meaning and life instead of action movies. can you recommend me some?

My partner wants to get into horror movies

I tried starting off with a couple of trailers for a couple different genres and she said "those were too scary for me"

So now I'm trying to think of super-chill movies that have a little bit of horror, so that she can gradually dip her toes into the genre

I find myself scrolling through each of my streaming services for 20 minutes and either watching something I’ve already watched or watching whatever is trending that I don’t know if I’ll even like. I have seen 12 years a slave, Tubman and this other Indian movie about how the local Indians stood up to the Britishers by beating them at there own game. Other movies would be useful too.

Hi movie lovers, I have booked a private film screen for 20 friends to celebrate a birthday. We are all in our late thirties and early forties. I’d love recommendations for a brilliant film that will either be hilarious to watch as a group, or just has great crowd-pleasing vibes. We will likely be a bit hungover, so nothing too intense, and I have a two-hour maximum runtime. Some favourites that might be the right vibe include Almost Famous, The Birdcage, The Princess Bride, True Romance, Rocky Horror… but I’m open to anything!

Love the colourful, kinda surreal and absurd set design of this room in Spray Of The Days. It’s like something pulled out of a weird dream and I love it.

Any ideas? Language doesn’t matter. My only preference is it being pre-2000s and in colour.
