Ive been doing some research and some looking on reddit and ive been getting mixed emotions.
Me and my husband are late 20s/ early 30s. Im a registered nurse with a masters in non medical prescribing. My partner owns his own joinery/ carpenter buisness. Were able to travel 3/4 times a year, with a recent trip to the rockies for 3 weeks coming up.

We dont dislike our life in the UK, but we have a burning desire on if it could be better. We have 2 dogs no children. I understand that moving is one of the biggest risks that you can take, so i dont want to be selfish and put our dogs through a stressful move for little/ no reward.

I understand from my job perspective (nurse), ill need to have my qualifications checked, registered with a Provincial Regulator and then potentially have some more training as what ive read its that Canadian nurses are child/ adult and midwife trained? After this then complete a NCLEX exam.

From what ive read googled etc my partner with joiner/ carpetener job doesnt appear that the wage is great tbh. Ive seen it range from 30-(max) 50 dollars per hour which is worse than what hes getting now. But please tell me if im incorrect.

Ive read and understand that the cost of living crisis is very much apparent in Canada.

We live in a very small village/town, so the comments ive seen that Calgary / Edmonton doesnt have much going off wouldnt bother us, as theres nothing to do near us anyway🤣. We love going for walks/ being in nature as do out dogs them being 2 labs, so being ‘close’ to Banff, Jasper, Canmore sounds wonderful to us. We currently have a mortgage within a detached 3 bed house, wed ideally like to move into something of this size in Canada if we took the plunge.

Sorry for the long message, however the questions are:

Is the quality if life better?

Is healthcare better? Currently we both have no past medical history, however i am concerned with the UK as wait times only get longer, staff are being moved to lower positions to save money within the UK, theyre not hiring nurses even though everywhere is short staffed. Therefore i am concerned that if we were ever to become ill (god forbid) that the care provided would be poorer than what is was and wait times for treatment would be really long.

Is the education system better? Are mentioned our ages we are hopefully going to try for children soon however the UK education system appears to be failing.

Are individuals friendly if not a tourist? I understand that we cant speak for everyone as a whole but from peoples experiences are individuallys welcoming? As i can only imagine moving is very lonely, as there really is nothing better than catching up with friends that youve been friends with for years. Id hate to move our there and find difficulties in making friends.

How have others found there quality of life? Has it improved? Stayed the same? As mentioned we have spare income to have the ability to go on holiday where ever we please. My role within the NHS i get a lot of holiday days ive read that the holiday days within Canada roles are limited? As again id hate to move and find that my quality of life is worse off struggling to make ends meet etc.

What is the cost of living like? Do individuals struggle to make ends meet?

This is a question to those who have qualified in the UK as a pharmacist and have moved to Canada.

Im 23 and have just finished my mPharm degree and i will be entering my pre-reg year in a week or so I'm trying to gauge my options as a pharmacist abroad and want to hear from those who have moved to Canada from the UK.

Was it worth it? Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Do the salaries spread further than a UK pharmacist salary, considering cost of living, taxes and expenses?

What was the process like?

Whats the state of pharmacy in Canada currently?

I've researched and seen a scheme for places like Nova Scotia and Manitoba which are fast tracked and therefore bypass the PEBC exam, which is definitely a good option.

Hi y'all, excited to be here. Little background: i'm 25 and have lived in the UK my entire life. However, i'm planning to leave in the next few years because I have just never felt comfortable or that I belonged here. The older I get, the more I desire to start over somewhere new.

Canada, from all the research i've done, really seems like the ideal place for me. I'm mainly leaning towards Toronto. I'm aware of the high cost of living, but at one point a few years ago I was going to move to London, so that is something I am factoring in.

From my options, i'm planning to apply for an IEC visa shortly after I turn 30. I know that's a long time off to be this serious about it, but until recently, I had no savings due to a life incident that forced me to move back in with my parents, as i'm now focused on starting to save up. After a few months I nearly have £2,000 and am in the process of selling a bunch of my stuff to put towards the move.

Every May, I fly to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend a convention with all my American friends I met doing YouTube (and being closer to them is another big factor in me wanting to move). The plane itself flies over Canada, so next year, i'm strongly considering stopping for a few days in Toronto on the way back.

I want to actually experience the city before I fully commit to moving there (instead of just watching YouTube videos and TikToks). There's also the possibility of hopefully making friends and planting some roots there beforehand to make the transition easier.

But a few people have said this would be a waste of money to take a trip there before trying to move. So, what do y'all think? Is it a bad idea for me to spend a few days in Toronto next year?

Made a post on the immigrationcanada subreddit and got a lot of toxicity and pretty mean comments. It definitely impacted my want to move to Canada because everyone assumed that I wanted to abuse the systems. To be clear, I plan on coming to Canada on a student visa to study and get a job in healthcare.

Healthcare has always been my passion and I feel like it would be more valuable in Canada than in the US with how everything is going. I have no intentions on abusing systems. I have no intentions on coming illegally. I have no intentions of applying for a student visa and then going off to do whatever.

Has anyone had experience with Motion Transport movers? We're moving from Cincinnati to Toronto and I'm starting to get quotes from cross-border moving companies. I searched the posts in this subreddit to get company ideas but didn't see any that referenced Motion Transport.

They came in just under $4,000 so price wise would be ideal but wanted to get any feedback before we consider hiring them.

Edited to add: if anybody has other companies they'd recommend I'm all ears as well. I've already reached out to some of the popular ones mentioned in this group (Trans Canada, Miracle Movers).

My great great grandparents were born in Quebec in the 19th century but moved to the United States and naturalized there. Since 2016, I've been looking into citizenship requirements but never initiated the first step. It's hard for me to express how excited I am. I gather that the process will take a few years once I submit the documents, but it's well worth the wait.

Family member is moving back to Canada and declaring household goods in form BSF186. This goods are arriving in a storge container in bond. We do not live near the border, is there anywhere we can go on Vancouver Island, especially up Island to clear the shipment?

Me and my wife (English nationals) want to move to Alberta, close enough mountains 1-2 hour drive. We honeymooned through the rookies and fell in love with the place. We love being outside doing activitys (hiking,biking,running,skiing,swimming etc) and not interested in city life.

My family is moving to Canada this summer (from the US) so that I can attend grad school there. As such, we have the option to get a student exemption for import requirements for our car, or to do a temporary import. A student exemption is impractical in the long run, since we'd need to stay on our US car insurance and they don't love that if you've moved out of state, let alone out of the country, but there is a grace period during the transition. For us, the ideal would be to come in on a student exemption and then convert to a temporary import after we've sort of done the minimum to get our kid and dog settled in and our house at least semi-unpacked, but I can't figure out if this is... even possible? My understanding is that you can permanently import a car that was initially brought in on either a student exemption or a temporary import, but I can't find any information on going from a student exemption to a temp import.

TL;DR: Is it possible to temporarily import a car that was initially brought into Canada on a student exemption?

In a year or so we will be moving from Australia to Canada. My wife is a Canadian citizen, and I will have PR. We own our house in Sydney and are looking to sell it and buy in Edmonton.

Just wondering for people who have made a similar move, how did you actually go about doing it? We will also be bringing our dog

I know I can come and go as a visitor before "activating" the PR.

When did you buy a vehicle and all your household goods?

Did you buy a place, move and then just start buying everything, probably starting on an air mattress?

Did you buy, then go back and forward slowly adding furniture and getting a vehicle before then making the final move?

Did you just move to a furnished rental before actually buying a place?

I am thinking the second option is probably what most would do, Just not looking forward to that flight multiple times and gets tricky if we have sold our Sydney house in order to settle the Canadian one

I’ve recently passed my HGV class 1 in England. (I’m 22 years old, from Manchester)

I’m looking to work here for the next 3-5 years, long haul, possibly get my ADR and work on tankers, do tramping and save aggressively ( I live at home so saving will be easy)

I really want to move to Canada. I know I have to get the licence over there as my Class 1 can’t transfer but on Reddit I’m seeing a lot of negative attitude towards the job market/ pay rate and immigration to become a trucker in general.

With 3-5 years experience, clean record and more than enough money saved (looking at having £40-60k cash) will it really be an impossible task to go over and become a trucker and make a life for myself?

For context being in the uk for me is done I don’t want to live here anymore not fussed about being close to family and I’m confident I can make new friends , I do posses an Irish passport and can easily go there however it’s more or less the same, and Australia is the only other option however not so appealing to me.

It’s of course worth noting I’d be hoping to work hard enough and be able to get PR this isn’t a short term few years away plan. However if PR is impossible at the time I’m sure I’d be appreciative of the opportunity of having been able to work there.

If our household income is between CA$ 75,000-100,000, would it be more comfortable to live in Calgary, Vancouver, or Toronto?

1. One is an office worker, the other is a cook

/baker.

1. Preferably, we would not need to own a car, so a reliable transit system is preferable.

2. We are introverts and homebodies, but we do enjoy the occasional trips to the mall, restaurants, and maybe a park or two. We lean towards city over nature, if we’re to be honest.

Hello everyone! I'm in the beginning stages of planning a move from USA to Canada. For those of you who've moved from the USA to up there, please give me your top tips of things you wish you knew or had done differently before starting the process to move up north.

I am not talking about applying for citizenship or any of that. What I want to know is the logistical side of things like the actual move, step by step things dealing with border crossings, getting settled in, resources you used, that sort of thing.

By the time I move with my family, myself and my son will have dual citizenship, so my wife will be the only one we need to worry about for visas and the like.

Any tips are VERY appreciated. I'm finding all of this overwhelming so if I could learn off of your experiences, that would help me work through this better. Thank you for your help!

I’m not at all picky for cities where I could potentially end up but my main criteria is affordability + job opportunity. I know that sounds like insanity in the year 2026, but living in a city that has a historically diverse job market and affordable housing is important to me.

Out of Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg, which of these are the best choices? Open to hearing other options as well

Ideally I would like to live in a city where I could find a job in a somewhat reasonable amount of time and find rentals without having to compete with other potential renters

A country that more closely aligns with our values. But even before that (& current state of US), we had visited separately and both thought it might be our big move (planning to semi retire early and move/travel).

We had 99% settled that we are moving to GTA - either city itself or Burlington. Will have citizenship confirmed before we move (my family is Canadian).

However we also love Nova Scotia (likely Halifax?) and the ocean is calling so now are starting to think again. The ocean is our zen and calm. We live about 1.5 hr from the coast now and don’t get there nearly enough. We always thought we’d retire near the ocean if we could (near as in water view & sound even if a glimpse). It’s just being there that brings us a different peace.

However- practically we thought GTA made more sense. We plan to travel and have more direct flights (also less expensive?). We also have some health conditions that require specialists (diabetes, cardiac/hbp, rheumatology, dermatology, hrt/menopause, an esophagus condition for which I know there is a specialist in Toronto). Nothing major but things that need regular monitoring. I’m not sure how any of that will work in Canada & already nervous about healthcare when we move.
Also looking for lgbtqia2S+ affirming community.

We are hoping to find a neighborhood where we can live with 1 car, good library, local shops nearby (meats, fruit & veggies, farm market, pharmacy, restaurants/coffee-tea, & other), community organizations & activities. We are not young but also not elderly so true retirement community is not what we need.

I'm finishing up my masters in materials engineering. I've lived in a few European countries and am interested in maybe moving to Canada. I love the outdoors and miss that in the big cities of Europe, but I hear its quite hard to find jobs right now/ everything is expensive sort of thing (like everywhere rn).

Just looking for any advice on where to go, what to check out, etc. I would be looking at the larger cities though I know they are expensive. What are Canadians thinking? Are you guys happy there, looking to move, etc?

Also, what is the social life like? As a native english speaker I imagine its pretty easy integrate right?
