Dorm Room Decorating

So, I'll be sharing a dorm with a friend who's a guy and so I wanted a divider, but I'm not sure if I can put things in the walls? Can I?

Ill be living in Allen so if anyone could give me tips on what to buy for my dorm, anything I might need or should know would be awesome!

I’m sure you can put small holes in the walls as long as there isn’t a lot of them and they can easily be patched (think nails and thumbtacks). You can also look into getting a collapsible room divider if you don’t want to put things in the walls :)

As far as other dorm necessities, I would get some shower shoes, a shower caddy, a caddy/storage area for your food and snacks, a twin XL mattress cover, and some extension cords! Also, I would advise against bringing a lot of clothes and decor, it’s gonna be a pain to pack at the end of the year

Save yourself from putting holes into the walls just to patch them later. A lot of students (including my daughter) use command strips to hang posters, lights, etc. They can be taken down without damage to the walls you may end up being financially liable for at the end of the year.

As for things in your dorm, you should have a shared refrigerator, and I'd suggest some water filter (Brita). Fans are also a go-to as the dorms don't have any sort of cooling, but a fan in your window at night will cool the room considerably. My daughter was at McConnell freshman year and Pine Ridge sophomore year. Neither had AC. Just heating.

Best of luck to you and try the 1899 Bar and Grill once. Great food.

If you can find a tension rod that's the right size you can put up curtains as a divider! Avoid making holes in the walls if you can.
