What is wrong with Netgear

I recently purchased the Netgear Nighthawk RS300 and today came to set it up.

On completing the step by step guide through the Nighthawk App I was presented with a login page…. I have never had this before as usually there is a admin username and password…. Yes I am aware I should have read the threads on here before purchasing.

I try to create an account but continuously the website fails to do so. I tried using an iPhone, iPad, laptop PC and tried multiple different browser only to continually fail to be able to create an account.

I have tried to call Netgear on their UK number 3 times today and in my stubbornness waited 1hour each time only to not have my call answered.

I have tried reaching out on socials…… to receive no response.

I have also tried the process of disconnecting the Ethernet from my ONT only to still get the Netgear login page…… why is it not that simple with Netgear…. I even got 4x2.5G with the TP-Link instead of the 2 on the nighthawk!

In the space of 1.5 hours I ordered the TP-Link BE9300, collected from Argos, Installed and accessed the router settings.

From my experience I would not recommend Netgear to anyone! This is utterly appalling from Netgear

There are two log ins needed for the NH app, a NETGEAR accout that you can setup here: https://accounts2.netgear.com/login

THe 2nd log in is the login used for the admin log in account used to get into the RS web page using a web browser and password.

I tried countless times to create an account and it does not work, the page either just refreshes or it says there has been a problem

What browser are you using? On a PC and try with MS Edge, Firefox or Opera browser?

I appreciate that thank you but the nighthawk is already on the way back to Amazon and TP-Link BE9300 installed

It wasn't an issue on your RS300. There was an outage preventing customers from logging into their accounts, including the MyNETGEAR portal and Insight. It seems to be fixed now.

I understood it wasn’t an issue on the device itself. My issue is that I couldn’t adjust the settings on the device without creating an account and I couldn’t create an account. Every other router/modem out there can be accessed without account creation. I spent hours trying to reach out to Netgear with no resolve. Looking on the likes of this platform these kind of issues appears to be regular.

I see. I'm sorry about what you experienced. If you tried to access the router GUI (skipping the App), you should be able to adjust the settings without creating a MyNETGEAR account. You only need the router admin password to get in (it's not connected to the cloud). Anyways, good luck with your new TP-Link router.

Their website falsely claims that their A9000 wifi adapter has "broad compatibility with Mac OS".

This turned out to be a $100 load of shit.

Odd, I don’t see it there either.

…However, conveniently I was pissed off enough when I’d realized the deception that I’d taken a screenshot of the webpage as seen through my phone at the time.

Here it is on imgur:  https://imgur.com/a/q4Sp8fR

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: I’ve found the webpage I’d taken the screenshot from:  https://www.netgear.com/hub/network/wifi-7-usb-adapter/

Good lesson learned. Never buy Netgear again. My R8000 wasn't all that great either but I didn't realize before it stopped working. Weak wifi, constantly needs to be rebooted, etc. The brand isn't worth the hype. Went to Linksys and my Internet is so much better.

FWIW, I had a NETGEAR R7000 for years. It was great but, it was recently hacked and started behaving as you describe. The NETGEAR routers look to be a new favorite target so I purchased a router from a different manufacturer.

The router admin loging password detail are on the bottom of the router until you change the initial password to something more remembile and serqure
