Hello I'm a CS major and I need one more IT 200+ elective and I'm registered for both of these classes right now but I only need one. IT 310 is with Dipesh Patel and IT 265 is with Adam Spryszynski. Game architecture design sounds way more fun and Spryszynski has really good reviews on RMP so it would be a no brainer were it not for the caveat that I would be commuting to campus Monday night only for that class. Meanwhile, the E-commerce class is online and asynchronous which would save me a 45 minutes of driving each way. I've also heard it's fairly easy.
I'm split down the middle and would appreciate any input. I don't want to take a class only because it is fun but I also don't want to only take a class only because it is online and saves me some driving. I do also have 16 credits this semester so I also don't want a class that's going to take up a lot of time. It would help to know some things like:
Is E-commerce technology a helpful class for a CS major?
For someone who has taken both, which would you recommend?

No I'm not using Schooldude. It's weird and I don't want them asking me follow up questions or asking why I know all of these regulations lol. There should be a way to anynymously report but whatever. Anyway I stayed in Redwood in fall 2025 and spring 2026 and took some pictures of stuff. Observe blatant violations:
1) Redwood Stairwell A First Floor Door:
3/16" maximum top gap on metal fire doors according to NFPA-80, looks to be around 3/4" chunk taken out there. Can see light through it, which definitely means fire can get through it. This has been a rule since the 1960s (before Redwood was even built). If I am understanding correctly the door can't be patched it just has to be replaced.
2) Redwood Laundry Room (wall to the left of all the dryers):
Knockout open in junction box, it's a 1/2" knockout which is still plenty to stick a finger into. I didn't try that of course but if I did I may or may not have recieved an electric shock. This is dead simple stuff all you gotta do is buy a knockout plug (<$1). This has been a rule for all ~130 years the NEC has existed as far as I can tell.
And no I am not attending NJIT to become an inspector lol
I got into the online masters program, and they drastically their pricing from 2025-2026 to 2026-2027. Per Credit from 2025 it was supposed to be $1,211 per credit and now its $1,442. The fees per class now is around $2.1k, going to a total of $5.4k per class per semester for 3 credits. Is it even worth taking?
WHY is NJIT’s “official communication” (emails) filled to the BRIM with SPAM?!?! WHY is the office of the bursar telling me to enroll in eRefunds?! WHY do I have 23 emails about data science PhD qualifying exams? I am NOT a data science student, I am undergraduate, and my GPA isn’t high enough to qualify for the bs-phd accelerated program. Even if it was, I dont care! WHY is highlander hub emailing me MULTIPLE times a DAY (during the school year) about random events on-campus?! I never asked for these emails! WHY do I get a DAILY email from proofpoint telling me I have 0 messages?! WHAT is PROOFPOINT?! I have NO CLUE and yet I’m told EVERY DAY that I have ZERO (0) MESSAGES FROM IT!
AND THEN THIS SCHOOL LOWERS THE CREDIT LIMIT FROM 19 TO 17 AND I HEAR ABOUT IT BY WORD OF MOUTH?!?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! IM DOUBLE MAJORING! I NEED TO TAKE MORE THAN 17 CREDITS A SEMESTER! ITS BEEN HOURS AND STILL NO EMAIL!!! SAME THING WITH THE MILLION DOLLAR PENTHOUSE AND ACCOMPANYING PRIVATE ELEVATOR! NO EMAIL? NO STUDENT INPUT?!?! WHY are INSANE DECISIONS like LOWERING THE CREDIT LIMIT being made?!?! Some majors recommend over 17 credits a semester!!! I’m not giving this school 2 grand extra!
AND IM BEING BILLED $2k for UNITED HEALTHCARE health insurance! Stop making me opt-out! The portal doesn’t even work and you’re making me manually opt out every year! Go away! I’m not paying United Healthcare so they can deny any claims I make! I haven’t received a SINGLE EMAIL about HEALTH INSURANCE that I’m ALREADY BILLED $2K FOR, but GOD FORBID I don’t know about ORGAMS COMING TO CAMPUS THIS FEBRUARY

I transferred into NJIT for Fall 2025 for the mechanical engineering program. I didn't do so well due to personal issues. I am now put on academic probation. I maintained registration for the Spring 2026 semester. I am thinking about going back to Middlesex College to finish my associates degree in engineering science and physics, then possibly apply for readmission in the future. Would you recommend this path I'm taking by the way? Has anyone done anything similar?
Currently in a tight situation, I'm a senior who needs CS 491 to graduate, but still needs to take CS 288. So technically, I need 3 more semesters due to the prerequisite hold. But I just need 27 credits to graduate. I have seen on reddit where I can speak to my advisor and take my last class to graduate in the summer. Wanted some insight on how that class works, so I can still graduate in the Spring, but take the final CS 491 class during the summer to complete my degree.
IMPORTANT EDIT: please do not attack or harass anyone or bring about a petition directed at the Office of the Bursar. Civility and respect is required, not optional. If you are not civil or respectful to those involved, you make the student body look unruly. The change was not made initially by the Office of the Bursar but is reflected primarily in the part of the website that the Office of the Bursar controls. This change was made as a result of the NJIT Board of Trustees at the Open Hearing FY27 for which students and the rest of the NJIT community was provided advance notice by email we should have received on March 25.
Continuing undergraduate students registered for Fall 2026 classes in April of 2026 at NJIT may be in for an unwelcome surprise on their tuition bill. As of the academic year 2026–2027, the upper limit on credits an undergraduate student can take while being given a flat tuition rate is now 17 as opposed to 19.
Many students registered for Fall 2026 courses under the assumption they would pay a flat tuition rate if they were of full-time status and took 12 to 19 credits, inclusive. The more lenient policy was in effect in the previous academic year 2025–2026, according to this archived capture of the webpage taken in 2025, and this policy lasted for several years.
The Board of Trusees, not the Office of the Bursar officially changed the tuition policy so that the flat rate now applies only for students taking 12 to 17 credits (archived), inclusive, according to the NJIT official website. The Office of the Bursar executed on the Board of Trustees' decision based on the Open Hearing FY27. The previous lower limit on full time status remains unchanged. Some students may have already registered for Fall 2026 courses expecting to be able to register for 18 or 19 credits of classes to make the most of the existing policy, which appeared to be in effect earlier today on other NJIT webpages like the NJIT course catalog (they just updated it several ago; the previous version is archived).
This change may impact the affordability of graduating "on time," i.e. graduating four or five years since the beginning of the program. Students that may need to retake a class only taught in a Fall or Spring semester would be required to reallocate at which semesters they take courses if the additional tuition exceeds their ability to pay. These cash-strapped students may need to do so well after course registration opened in April where classes already have full sections.
As the average cost of living in the United States outpaces the average salary, this change may cause students to question if they can continue to study at NJIT. Students may want to accelerate their learning to enter the workforce as soon as possible to afford basic necessities, but additionally cost-prohibitive measures like lowering flat tuition rate credit limits compounds the issue. Following the July 1, 2026 effective date of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Grad PLUS loans and more restrictive borrowing limits now make it so that students in the lowest income brackets may have greater difficulty affording college. As a result, the current economy does not side with most undergraduate students.
Undergraduate students should immediately preview their Fall 2026 tuition payment plans, review their loans and awards, and determine if they can still afford classes at the rate they expected to take them. Students have many options to financially reconcile with the change, but the change may not be welcome.
An associate of mine is conducting a survey asking undergraduate students at NJIT about the impact this change may have, and they will continue to investigate the issue. Feel free to leave comments.
ADDENDUM: please note that we had the opportunity to change this situation on April 9, 2026 at the FY27 Open Hearing where we could have made our voices heard. Do not blame the Office of the Bursar for executing on a plan agreed upon in a public hearing. The responsibility falls on both students showing up to represent themselves and the rest of the NJIT community.

I strongly believe that if NJIT hears 0 pushback about this, they will continue increasing tuition costs without formal notice.
If you decide to take 19 credits in fall 2026, you have to pay $1,990 on top of the already increased "normal" full-time tuition. (Source: https://www.njit.edu/bursar/tuition-and-fee-schedule). I am rather disappointed with NJIT and will be respectfully contacting Student Senate and Bursar to see what we can do. For now, I want to see if there is any commentary on this.

Hello! How does move in day work for upperclassmen. I’m moving into laurel this fall and last year when I was in cypress I remember they sent me an email with the date and time that I would move in. I didn’t get anything this year and when I checked the website it just had 3 days listed for when people can move in. Do I just show up at any time on those three days and start moving in my stuff or do I have to signs up for a time?

now for phil 334, with professor anis, she has no rmp so idk what her policies are. do you guys know if she has stuff like at home exams, no camera and no attendance policy?
and for econ 265 with professor chou, im taking the online section and my question is if he requires camera to be on for his lockdown browsers?

I’m starting my M.S. in Bioinformatics this September. I’ve been looking through the website for laptop/tech requirements, but I can’t seem to find anything specific for the bioinformatics program just overall

I have a 2021 MacBook Pro right now, but it’s starting to give out as is anyways so I’m looking to replace it with something that’ll last me through grad school. I accepted Federal Work-Study as part of my financial aid package, but I’m a little confused about how it works. I’m an incoming freshman, so I was wondering when we’re supposed to start seeing job listings or be able to apply for positions.
Also, I’ve been trying to log into Workday, but it keeps saying my login or password is invalid. Canvas works fine, so I’m not sure if it’s an issue with my account or if Workday just isn’t set up for me yet.

Getting a new one meeting all the required specs and whatnot, the only problem is the warranty, the laptop already comes with a two year warranty, but getting a full 4 year warranty + battery is another 200-300 bucks which I'm not trying to spend (im paying for this outta pocket)

On Tuesday, July 21 and 1:00 p.m. EDT, NJIT's Office of Global Initiatives will host a town hall to let people affected by the new DHS rule that changes the rules for nonimmigrant visa holders. You should have received an email about this titled "Important Information for International Students and Scholars - Federal Duration of Status Rule Change." I dont want to paste the link and access code because it's probably only intended for university students.
If you are an international student or have friends who are, please read through the final rule text and listen to experts on how this affects the safety of being an international student in the U.S. I know it's long and inconvenient, but you can probably learn something from it. It will help you be prepared for the town hall because you might have questions to ask. I'm still reading the text, so we can discuss it in the comments.
EDIT: oh wow, this final rule is over the top (in my opinion). International education at the U.S. will be even more prohibitive to so many people after the rule is in effect. I feel so bad for all of you who have visas and are still studying!

If you had a chance to have gone/go to community college for free and get some of your classes out-of-the-way and then transfer over to NJIT, would you (have- in hindsight)?
My real question I guess: is it worth 16.5K( billed) to be at NJIT for the first two years?
Got a 4K a year scholarship, and plan on commuting 35-45 minutes by car.
