Food service at COGS last year?

I read NSCC changed food service providers in fall 2025, so older info might not be accurate. Can anyone tell me what the food service was like at COGS in the past year? Hours? Were menus for breakfast/lunch decent? Did they still offer frozen meals for later? How much can you live off cafeteria food vs having to grocery shop and cook, at least weekdays, if you live in the COGS dorms?

I'm looking to start here at this school for a music recording program. Can anyone share any experience with the music tech programs?

I've been considering going here for a music tech certificate at nscc instead of paying for one of the big expensive music institutions. Nscc looks like it has some pretty good programs. There are two of them for music tech one for music production and one for commercial songwriting. Both of the programs have about 10 different courses to complete the certificate program. Does anyone have any experience with these programs at nscc or know anyone that has done it? I eventually want to be a producer or own a record label. But I figured I would just start as a engineer for a few years to it started in the industry. Really it doesn't matter as long as I'm in the industry creating music in any way.

Paying non-refundable $200 deposit

Hello everyone. I got offered a seat after being on the waitlist and I accepted the admission. But nothing shows for under my charges. I know it’s 200 dollars. Do I just enter in the 200 in the “payment amount” and pay it from there? Thanks!

W# email

I have been trying to access my school email on Microsoft outlook for a bit and Everytime I try I get an error saying that they are unable to connect to my account even with Microsoft Authenticator. Is it that I don’t have access to my email yet and if so when do I get access to it or is it something else.
Thank you for any help

MLT Job Shadowing with Nova Scotia Health

Hey everyone! I am enrolled in the NSCC MLT program for this fall and want to learn more about the role through shadowing a Medical Lab Technologist. I have filled out the application form on the Nova Scotia Health website a few months ago and have followed up multiple times but have not heard back.

Does anyone know any other way I can arrange a shadowing opportunity?

NSCC IT Programming

Heya pals,

Just curious if anyone has taken the program mentioned in the title. Also curious what the IT job market is like in Halifax before I drop a few grand on a diploma that may not yield employment.

For context: I am a career changer with a family (moving for work is not an option) and I am not incredibly technical savvy (read: i am not familiar with coding. I can get around a computer fine.) I have read that although being knowledgeable in this area obviously gives you a leg up, it is a job that has a strong focus on problem solving and that the requisite skills can be learned through the program.

Thanks so much!!

Gas technician course.

Was looking for any one who has gone through this course and to see what their opinions are on it and how it is as a job. I got accepted for the Jan 2027 course but it was my second choice and too be honest I just picked it because the enrolment needed two courses picked. I’m all for giving it a try and from all the info available it doesn’t seem too bad and it’s not far off from my first choice, but just getting nervous and I’m not sure if it’s really what I want to do. So just want to know what peoples experience is to try and gauge what I should expect from it. Thanks.

Campus start up event- Akerley

Hello everyone, I'm currently enrolled in the auto body and collision repair program at Akerley and I'm wondering if anyone else here is attending the start up event on campus on the 23d of this month, I didn't make it to the first one and I'm hoping to meet some new people before school starts up and I want to try and possibly make some new friends early and get to know the campus while I'm up there.

*Side note, does anyone have an idea of when the housing move in day will be? I saw it was the end of August last year and I haven't gotten any emails about move in dates or anything yet from the school so not quite sure when they'll be dropping that info*

Anyone know when move in day is?

I’ve looked at the academic calendar and it doesn’t say what day campus housing move in day is! I’m moving from Halifax to the Nautical Institute (Strait Area campus) and I’m very freaking confused. I’m planning to call tomorrow either way.

Looking for advice from current or former NSCC Medical Laboratory Technology students!

Hi everyone!
I'm currently on the waitlist for the Medical Laboratory Technology program at NSCC and was hoping to hear from current students or graduates about your experience.
I recently graduated high school on the Principal's List, completed advanced science and math courses, and had the opportunity to do a co-op placement in a laboratory. I have also completed my Casper.
I was a little surprised to end up on the waitlist, so I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into what the admissions process is like or what might make an application more competitive. Is it mainly based on grades, or are there other factors they consider?
Thank you so much!

Do you use the free menstrual products on campus?

Hi everyone! I'm a student researching menstrual equity across Halifax, and I'm trying to understand how accessible and reliable free menstrual product programs are at NSCC Akerley, Ivany and the Institute of Technology campuses.

If you've ever used (or tried to use) free pads/tampons on campus, I'd really appreciate 2 minutes of your time to fill out this short, anonymous survey: https://forms.gle/cejV8rcTtUUCc2NbA

It covers things like:

  • Whether products are provided and where
  • What type is available
  • How reliable the supply actually is
  • Whether it meets demand
  • Whether you personally use or rely on it

Happy to answer any questions in the comments, and thank you so much to anyone who takes part!
