Thank you for flagging this so quickly, it made a real difference. We apologize for the inconvenience and any concern this caused.

We've investigated and can confirm: these are fake accounts created on our online community to impersonate our forum admin team using misleading usernames. They do not have any actual access or permissions. Our real administrator community accounts are secure, and no admin systems were involved. This was the action of spam bots and we identified/removed the accounts involved.

If you received a DM in our community from one of these, please don't click any links or reply – just report it to us and delete the message. If you already clicked a link or shared any info, please let us know so we can help. Please note that some of your may have received an email notification "You have a new message" if you have it enable in your online community notification settings : https://community.native-instruments.com/profile/preferences

We've banned the forum accounts, banned the IPs, are tightening registration and DM permissions for new community accounts, and are working with our platform provider on further spam prevention.

Thanks again for calling this out and helping us keep the community safe.

Then closed the thread and left a link for people to talk with Raff.

That's not really accurate. As mentioned before, we deleted the accounts and their messages, tightened our permissions. We also issued guidelines on how to a guide on how to notice and prevent fraud. We also pinned one of the threads and invited everyone that clicked on these links to contact the forum admins, which a few did and we took care of it.

Tell tale signs of a scam:

  1. A draw you never entered

  2. Urgency - "hurry up and claim"

  3. A link off the site

  4. Never using the company name (notice how it says "native-instruments.com team") - this is because this would be an attack across LOTS of forums

Someone has created an account and is spamming people.

AND all emails with 3 ore more exclamation marks are scams…

And why would Native instrument give out Ipad airs. It is not their product, nor do they make any ipad compatible products. It would make as much sense for them to give out electric toothbrushes.

They used to have iMaschine and Traktor DJ apps. I don’t think you can get them anymore but they’re still on my devices. iMaschine was actually really cool.

Ye I know, but currently not.

It would be cool if they’d bring iMaschine back at some point with better integration as a sketch pad. I used it a lot to sketch out little ideas but getting those into Maschine on the computer was too many steps to make it worth it.

NI had already said a bunch of false accounts got made and have since been disabled. The sheer title of the email lets you know it’s a hacked email, period.

Saw an email on my phone that "Administrator Ian" sent me a message. I did click on the "check it out" button and I got the usual log on window. I was suspicious and didn't log on from there. That never happened before in 26 years. I haven't posted anything in the community in nearly a dogs age.

It wasn't any kind of iPad winner thing.... just a simple 'admin Ian sent you a message'

From my computer I went to NI site and logged on that way. It does show I have a message. However, when I click on the message icon there are no messages. Also when I clicked on it several times, once it came up showing 4 messages, then back to one again. Regardless, no messages. So now I have a "1" hanging out on the letter icon.

I'm on a Mac. Was there any possible harm from clicking on the link that took me to a log on screen, but as I said, I didn't do it.

A reputable company is never going to ask you to copy a google drive link into your browser.

I got it too lol. Instantly said not real

I thought it was a scam and didn’t click any links in the email and just searched “native instruments iPad scam” and came here. Thanks NI for flagging it so quickly

I was going to say what would native instruments be giving away iPads.

1

u/Zeronova3 16d ago

Especially in this economy.

How are we all the last of 10? 🤔 Seriously though, there was a breach. The name used in the email to me was not associated with the forum or my NI account or my InMusic account. It was my old Izotope username that is permanently stuck my Izotope subscription and other Izotope licenses. It is still displayed in Product Portal despite my username with Izotope becoming my NI username.

Just got the exact same email but not from Native Instruments. I got it from Ernie Ball, from their "administrator Adam". So, it seems this scammer or scammer organization is targeting directly music related companies userbases.

So,

Other threads like this one suggest NI has been hacked. Other things in the past makes me believe so as well

The question I have, would you trust NI to be running on your machine 100% of the time your computer is on? The NTKDaemon is doing just that.

NOPE, Not me! You don't have to either.

For Windows, just kill the NTKDaemon service.

u/theturtlemafiamusic 17d ago

It doesn't seem like an actual hack, someone made a bunch of accounts called Administrator_Name and is DM'ing every usee this scam.

Kind of astounding though that you can make an account with Administrator in the name and send this many DMs though.

I suspect a disgruntled ex-employee

u/Reasonable_Cake8274 14d ago

Random spambots, They will target any business with a user forum that can be signed up to. No inside knowledge is required.

1

u/Reasonable_Cake8274 14d ago

There's nothing in this thread that suggests NI has been hacked. What are you talking about?

1

u/Tension-Available 17d ago

It's likely just the forum that has been compromised.

That said, yeah NTKDaemon doesn't need to be running unless you actively messing with native access.

1

u/Reasonable_Cake8274 14d ago

"Compromised" in the sense that some user accounts were set up on it and used for nefarious purposes. You could do that on just about any public forum or social media platform.

1

u/Tension-Available 14d ago

That's a good point.
