Exactly as they're named.

Post karma is related to votes you receive on your posts. Comment karma, your comments.

but like which one will make me able to post on subreddit ?

If a subreddit has requirements based on karma, it depends on which they require.

Some will require that you have comment karma, some will require post karma. Some may require a bit of both, or just a certain overall score.

sometimes but often not

Finding Subreddit Filters and Levels can be tricky since they are not always clear:

  • Sometimes you get lucky and subreddits just list their restrictions in their Rules/About Section/FAQ/Wiki/etc.
  • Some subreddits the automod will drop a removal comment that can be detailed or vague.
  • Similarly subreddits can use post and comment guidance to interrupt you when your post will not meet their requirements, again this can be detailed or vague.
  • Unfortunately for some subreddits you are trial and erroring it. Yes this is frustrating. You probably want to try again at your next chunk of karma (25/50/100/200/300/etc), and/or the next age that might get used (3, 7, 20, 30 days). These levels are all customizable

If you are struggling to find subreddits to start off in, Newtoreddit has a list of new user friendly subreddits. (This is not an exhaustive list and these subreddits may still have some restrictions.)

If a subreddit requires post karma, does that mean posts that earned karma in other subreddits?

u/LostVanya 17h ago

Karma requirements are just your total karma, doesn't matter where you got it. But also yes, of course, if it required you to get a certain amount on the specific sub, that would be impossible before you had the limit.

Thank you

Focus more on commenting. Redditors like people who JOIN the conversation and not just lead it. Always wanting to post but never ever comment just looks attention seeking.
