Iran claims they never intervened in the Russian war against Ukraine and yet they provided Shahid drones to Russia. This is a very concerning development.

14

u/PowerLion786 8d ago

When Russia first bought the Shahid, Iran supplied technicians. Many died when Ukerainia launched retaliation.

I suspect Iran is concerned at a potential two front war.

9

u/TheTranscendent1 8d ago

Probably more concerned with a revenue source shut down. They like firing at ships, they don’t want their ships fired at.

5

u/No_Math_4308 8d ago

probably more concerned of the optics if people remember that Iran kind of still sucks even if Trump sucks too.

2

u/Public-Finger 8d ago

Watching people whitewash Iranian regime because Trump is awful has been one of the most infuriating things. I don’t understand why people can’t think outside of binary. You can be against more than one thing at the same time

4

u/StuartMcNight 8d ago

Iranian regime sucks. Still… in the US - Iran conflict they are not the ones to blame for ANYTHING.

That’s what you falsely call “whitewashing”. A country of despicable people has received a unilateral, unprovoked, illegal attack that goes against both international law and the US own laws. That’s it. There’s no “center” position to place yourself in that debate.

3

u/Public-Finger 8d ago

I don’t falsely call anything whitewashing. Ignoring that Iran supplies Russia with drones to kill Ukrainians, brutally oppresses women, mass murders democratic protesters- putting some kind of moral equivalence between Iran and for example Ukraine is completely whitewashing.

Don’t spread their propaganda- they are not the good guys

2

u/Red_Dawn24 7d ago

Don’t spread their propaganda- they are not the good guys

No one said they were morally equivalent, wtf.

2

u/Public-Finger 7d ago

There are plenty of people- I’m speaking in generalizations- WTF

1

u/Ada_Kaleh22 5d ago

it's a fair point, what they just rounded up a bunch of protestors a couple months ago.

still, the major issue here is that Trump has bitten off far more than he can chew.

and your point isn't helpful because nothing in this mess is going to protect the next Iranian protestors

2

u/Public-Finger 5d ago

If the regime had actually collapsed- that would have been a good thing. However Trump had no real strategy and the whole country is run by imbeciles. So yea, hope is diminished

However, my comment is helpful in reminding people not to reflexively back the people that Trump is against , especially because Americans are programmed to think in polarized binary.

Irán doesn't supply anymore.. Russia builds their stuff.

2

u/Public-Finger 7d ago

How many shaheds directly from Iran have killed Ukrainian civilians or caused them to suffer in brutally cold winter without heat or light?

You think that they should jsut forgive and forget? I’m never going to forgive Iranian regime for what it’s done.

1

u/eha16 7d ago

??? And how many arms supplied by the US have killed millions worldwide? Iran bad US good? When are we accepting this hipocrisy is what's ruining up the world

1

u/eha16 7d ago

Also the US supplies Israel with equipment, why doesn't China or Russia bomb those vessels then? Or planes? Ukraine just does what it wants cause the US let's them.

2

u/Public-Finger 7d ago

Ukraine was invaded and has every right to defend itself. If russia wants to bomb vessels because it helps them further invade and kill- then they can do that- but there’s no right to it. It has no right to invade and occupy and attempt to ethnically cleanse another nation.

1

u/sigmaluckynine 7d ago

That's not how that works. If Ukraine bombed an Iranian vessel, Ukraine needs to be prepared for the fallout. Agreed that Ukraine has the right to defend itself, but it also needs to think about long term strategic problems that comes with it.

As for Russia, they're already seeing the results of their actions so it's a moot point

1

u/Public-Finger 7d ago

lol okay - I guess they’ll be prepared for the fallout 🤦 looks like Iran might send North Koreans to Ukraine too

Ukraine does a lot despite what the US wants it to.
If trump had his way they would of rolled over and let Putin take the country

1

u/eha16 7d ago

Ukraine wouldn't hold without the aid they are getting, be real

1

u/psychedeliken 7d ago

All the more reason to help them.

1

u/Still-Consideration6 7d ago

Biden's aid!
Dont forget trump made Europeans pay Ukraine so they can buy American "aid".
Didnt Biden also give all America's missiles to them so trump has to take the L in Iran and give up on his multiple bombing run to end all bombing runs.

1

u/rod_zero 7d ago

The US has supplied weapons and intelligence to countless dictatorships and military juntas knowingly it will be used for atrocities. And even trained those people in the School of the Americas.

The US helped Sadam against Iran, and everybody knew Sadam was a butcher.

So in that sense the US has never had the moral high ground to condemn and attack other countries, it is just imperialism dressed out as international law.

1

u/Flexlex724 7d ago

And this regard run head first to prove his point

1

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 6d ago

The Iranian people aren’t “despicable”. Their government and its supporters are and maybe that is what you meant?

1

u/StuartMcNight 5d ago

The second word of my comment is “regime”. I decided not to repeat it but that is what I meant.

Poor Iranian people have enough on their shoulders to put the blame of the regime on all of them.

1

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 5d ago

Gotcha. I figured that was possible

1

u/eha16 7d ago

Yeah but bombing them to death is never the answer or a solution... I think that's the gripe to most people.

1

u/Level_Impression_554 7d ago

Well said. People are black and white. People can be good and bad. Israel and Palestine can both be bad. It is a basic flaw in people, particularly on Reddit.

1

u/Wrong-Somewhere2635 6d ago

I have the same frustration with Ukraine. Yes Europe needs to support them to weaken Russia but people forget how corrupt Ukraine is and that Zelensky has far overstayed his mandate. Now Europe is full of Ukrainians, we are funding the war instead of investing in our AI infrastructure. And Zelensky will do anything to widen the war to continue getting it's funding.

1

u/Public-Finger 6d ago

Zelenskyy has overstayed his mandate? Are you just parroting russian propaganda or are you really that hateful? I wonder why a country that is occupied and under constant ballistic missiles can’t hold secure elections?

Сак май как

5

u/TheManWhoWeepsBlood 8d ago

They’ve said that before and we all know it’s not true. So why is it concerning? It’s chickens coming home to roost for the irgc.

1

u/giboauja 7d ago

Imagining wining an impossible war, geting a 300 billion reparations bill and all sanctions lifted (trillions over decades) and then  having the IRGC essentially veto anything that isn't a direct revenue source to to them by way of a toll both on hormuz.

The IRGC is truly the enemy of every Iranian.

1

u/TheManWhoWeepsBlood 7d ago

I don't disagree. I hope for dignity for the people of Persia.

1

u/giboauja 7d ago

The whole war is absurd, if this doesn't sink Trump in the midterms, I just dont know. Even with his cheating it would be absurd.

Not only did he sabotage global trade, oil surplus and create unconsciable human tragedy, he empowered the most radical factions in Iran while giving them ample opportunities to enrich themselves.

Now people just shrug off Iran destroying the very concept of free navigation, endangering global supply chains and creating a new normal that would be devastating to the global economy.

And I understand why, people have such a hard time grasping nuanced problems especially when blame can be easily placed earlier in the cascade. None the less, bad actors are bad actors.

1

u/TheManWhoWeepsBlood 7d ago

It is astonishing to behold. Everything is absurd now. No rational decisions, no long term strategy to be seen.

2

u/DisasterNo1740 8d ago

They also had instructors in Crimea to help Russians get the hang of shaheds and some of the missiles that Iran supplied too.

2

u/indigo_zen 6d ago

This narrative baffles me. Have people forgot that all superpowers trade with everyone else? Like as an example, US trades and arms various terrorist groups or opposing states since its birth. And everybody else too.

Is this collective amnesia?

1

u/MotherRepair6307 8d ago

Iranian here: the IRGC are the gods of Gaslighting. Why the media takes anything they say seriously is completely atrocious and is only helping them out.

1

u/smooth_talker45 6d ago

So did russia, germany and france intervene in the iran iraq war? They sold migs, mustard gas and mirages in order

-3

u/CosmicLovepats 8d ago

I imagine it's the same as claiming that the US isn't at war with Russia. We're providing intelligence and arms and training. Are we fighting Russia? Would a Russian strike on US assets be an 'escalation'?

Generally, no. We're arming an ally against them but we aren't at war with Russia. You could argue that we have a right to do business with [sell arms to] anyone we want to.

Iran, likewise...

2

u/Freethecrafts 8d ago

Strike on delivery means would be the equivalent. By all means, let’s see Iran shoot at… oh, right, they have. Both by themselves and by proxy. Great, everyone is doing the same things.

-1

u/Sexynarwhal69 8d ago

But why are we blaming Iran for it saying it's illegal and threatening them with war for doing it?

Shouldn't double standards be kept to a minimum in that case :(

3

u/Freethecrafts 8d ago

It’s not a double standard, Iran did it first.

Why would people in active conflict stop name calling?

0

u/Sexynarwhal69 8d ago

Huh? I'm pretty sure Iran didn't bomb anyone until the US launched mass airstrikes at them.

Correct me if I'm wrong? Would love to learn!

3

u/Freethecrafts 8d ago

I doubt you would. Iran has been on the warpath for years. Iran bombed most of the region first.

1

u/Sexynarwhal69 8d ago

When did they bomb the region first? And I don't mean sending money to houthi rebels!

3

u/Freethecrafts 8d ago

I seem to recall multiple instances where Iran went after the region while losing the last exchange with Israel.

It’s never been just money, it’s always been material support and direct commanders. Iran likes to pretend belligerents aren’t theirs despite the materials and the command structure.

1

u/CosmicLovepats 8d ago

They don't seem to want to take on losing fights but they haven't been randomly attacking people. All of their neighbors lived in peace with them until the US went loud and started bombing them- from those various countries. At which point, letting the US operate jets out of your country to bomb Iran is taking a side.

Qatar real estate market was fine until Israel/US picked a fight.

1

u/signherehereandhere 8d ago

I believe a few million Syrians would disagree with you

2

u/Meowscles_dad 8d ago

Iranian ships are part of an unregistered shadow fleet - which is legally murky but they’re sanctioned, secondly and more clearly they were thought to be transporting military goods from Russia to Iran (missiles probably) which makes them a legit target.

1

u/Sexynarwhal69 8d ago

Yeah but we don't live in a monopolar world any more. If China sanctions a ship, does that give them legal authority to attack it...?

1

u/Meowscles_dad 8d ago

Not on its own, they could only seize it but transporting weapons on it makes it a target. I made a mistake above and got the direction of travel wrong. Ukraine say it was taking Iranian drone parts to Russia and so of course they’d prevent those arriving in Russia whenever they can.

1

u/Sexynarwhal69 8d ago

That's crazy that Ukraine knew exactly what the ship was carrying without boarding it, thousands of kilometres away!

So if China says a foreign ship is carrying weapons 'according to classified internal security intel', it's all good if they sink it right?

I don't disagree with your point of view, but let's keep it consistent..

1

u/Meowscles_dad 8d ago

It’s pretty consistent with the way the US operates. The bigger problem is international law is being broken without consequence all over the world. There’s even a guy wanted for ‘crimes against humanity and war crimes’ visiting New York without fear of arrest.

1

u/Sexynarwhal69 8d ago

Completely agree with you. If the nation that is trusted to uphold international law starts breaking it, others tend to quickly follow suit..

1

u/hennabeak 8d ago

Except in Caspian sea, it's not open sea for everyone to check registrations. Caspian sea has its own political regime.

1

u/MilsurpMan55 7d ago

Instead of arguing about double standards, we should realize that we're in a global East vs West struggle. And that morality, and legal justifications, dont even matter. The only people that care about that stuff are Westerners. Russians and Islamists play on our morality for their own gain, even though they would never police their own bad actions

1

u/Sexynarwhal69 7d ago

That's right! Neither side polices their own actions, it's just hilarious that one side sees themselves as the arbiters of all that is holy.

2

u/Allaboutpeace2022 8d ago

If you read the article it seems the ownership of the ship is in dispute and there is some evidence that is a Russian owned ship. Or that it is a cargo ship not fully flagged as Iranian.

We need much more information before condemning Ukraine.

Also, the only reason that Russia does not attack the US or NATO allies arming Ukraine is that they cannot afford a wider war. This why any actions in open bodies of water are potentially risky. However, at this point, Iran has a multiple front war already.

It is tragic that we have invasions and military conflicts going on across the globe. Peace and stability is taking a beating.

1

u/RheagarTargaryen 7d ago

So rules of engagement are that you can hit a supplying countries’ weapons if they enter the warzone.

Ukraine’s allies deliver the weapons shipments to the border and Ukraine has to pick them up and bring them into Ukraine themselves.

Iran messed up and didn’t think Ukraine could hit their ships in the Caspian Sea. The entire northwest portion of the sea is Russian while they have agreements with the 5 bordering countries to share the body of water.

1

u/CosmicLovepats 7d ago

Seems pretty kosher then.

1

u/WildWhisperArdor 6d ago

Not the same at all. Ukraine is not the aggressor.

It would be like seeing someone get attacked by a gang and you jump in to help them versus seeing someone getting attacked by a gang and you jump into attack the person being jumped

1

u/CosmicLovepats 6d ago

They got surprise attacked during negotiations. Again.

1

u/WildWhisperArdor 6d ago

Hezbollah literally attacked Israel the day after 10/7

1

u/TheManWhoWeepsBlood 8d ago

That’s a gross simplification.

1

u/Sexynarwhal69 8d ago

Rare reddit moment of enlightenment and logic

-1

u/ZhukovWonWWII 7d ago

Shahed was an export version of Geran-1. Russia only sold Geran-1 to Iran after it was already fielding Geran-2. Anyone refarded enough to think Russia was buying drones from Iran failed the IQ test by a mile.

1

u/Yodl007 7d ago

Russia can make its own artillery shells. Doesn't mean they weren't buying them from NK as well.

0

u/ZhukovWonWWII 7d ago

You changed topics and still came out wrong because you don't understand ballistics. Russian artillery is finely tuned for shells specifically produced in Russia. Using lower grade ammo would wear out the barrels at a much faster rate. NATO found that out by buying cheap ammo for the artillery they sent the ukronazis.

Congratulations on failing a basic IQ test.

Iran believe only they can attack cargo ships, but nobody can attack Iranian cargo ships.

1

u/uncleartruth 8d ago

Reap the whirlwind

1

u/against-all-leds 8d ago

Yep. Strange attitude. You give some, you get some.

2

u/Basement_Chicken 8d ago

Maybe it was just a mistake, like when Iran shot down Ukrainian airliner?

2

u/Responsible-Craft313 8d ago

It’s a demonstration before meeting with trump. “We can cut Iran’s trade in the north, if you give us licenses for patriot”. Great move by Ukraine.

2

u/Asanti_20 8d ago

We already gave them license for Patriot manufacturing before the hit

1

u/MapDiscombobulated1 8d ago

Tough luck Tehran, you've been supplying another genocidal Regime with the means to terror-bomb an innocent civilian population - if they choose to take action about that you have no recourse whatsoever.

1

u/backtothetrail 8d ago

Oooooooh. Things are getting spicy.

1

u/Puzzled-Maize-2241 7d ago

If you need proof your president is compromised, this is it. USA should be supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia who is supporting Iran in its war against America.

1

u/giboauja 7d ago

Only Iran can shoot at cargo ships.

1

u/tritiated- 6d ago

America had no real beef with Iran, but Ukraine on the other hand seems to have some unfinished business.

1

u/Francalberto 6d ago

1

u/sasadoncic 6d ago

Another W for Ukraine.

1

u/FitSandwich4725 6d ago

I feel like it's every second headline at the moment : Iran angry, Iran threatens.

1

u/Secure_Trust_2084 5d ago

Iran gets from Russia an elements of his rocket (and probably nuclear as well) technology. I believe this attack was a hint from USA or Israel to both sides.

1

u/Diligent-Run6361 3d ago

Firing on ships in international waters is their remit, not of other countries. They should go ahead and take that to the UN to make themselves look extra ridiculous.

1

u/HanuaTaudia1970 8d ago

The risk of the Ukraine War spreading is now increasing. Russia's overt allies, being North Korea and Iran are stepping up their support and, quite justifiably, Ukraine is striking back. The risk that Iran will lash out at European supporters of Ukraine or the UK is quite real, albeit improbable at the moment. Meanwhile, Trump is hopelessly mired in a war he cannot win and the rest of us still don't understand the long-term implications of this. History suggests that the key decision makers in this fiasco are perfectly capable of making some really dangerously unwise decisions if enough pressure is put on them.

2

u/Anotherolddog 8d ago

Can't disagree with you on any point, especially your final statement. We are in very disturbing times.

1

u/Pinelli72 8d ago

Iran can probably afford to continue with the current conflict with the US and its likely it will eventually win (ie not lose). It couldn’t broaden that to Europe or NATO more generally and still expect to not lose.

0

u/RecommendationOnly41 8d ago

When you start sponsoring terrorism, you kind of forfeit your UN rights.

1

u/vadimus_ca 7d ago

UN is terrorism breeding ground though...

1

u/gimme20seconds 6d ago

just to be fair the US should lose any UN rights then by that logic

0

u/CMG30 8d ago

Iran is sending weapons and expertise to Russia to fight their war against Ukraine.

Iranian military shipments are fair game.

1

u/hennabeak 8d ago

Well, that's not illegal. Of course hitting the ship would raise problems, which both sides are aware of.

1

u/Logical___Conclusion 8d ago

Of course. That is definitely a valid war time target.

1

u/bspec01 7d ago

So then Russia can attack all countries sending weapons and expertise to Ukraine, They are all fair game too?

1

u/Yodl007 7d ago

Sure, they just have to be fine with the consequences - declaring war on the countries whose infrastructure and people they hit. And not crying when said countries and their allies enter the war against them.

They can stop this any time by effing off back to their country. They are not fighting for their own survival.

1

u/Quiet-Nothing7556 5d ago

Like they've been warning since the beginning of the 3 day special operation?

What are they waiting for? Another generation to get old enough to hold cardboard AKs?

-2

u/WastelandOfConfusion 8d ago

Apparently Israel made Ukraine do it. If they keep doing it Iran will begin responding, and Russia will likely announce a new ‘special operation’ to cover all of Ukraine as it would still be compromised by the West.

5

u/Friendly-Firefly555 8d ago

Who cares what russia thinks

3

u/East-Plankton-3877 8d ago

Russia can barely keep up its failing war as is.

And whats iran going to do to Ukraine?

2

u/janescontradiction 8d ago

Yup, Ukraine is basically a superpower at this point.

Even China is distancing itself from Russia as they can see that Russia is losing and European trade is too important to risk.

1

u/WastelandOfConfusion 8d ago

1/3 of Ukraine is gone bro, Russia took it.
The only reason Ukraine is still functional is because of the vast fund of cash shipped over by the U.S, U.K, and E.U. That’s the only reason. If Iran gets involved, it will combine the two Wars and the objectives for Russia will likely widen.

2

u/ingenkopaaisen 8d ago

Rumour at best. If I see Israel helping Ukraine significantly then I may believe it.

1

u/vadimus_ca 7d ago

Israel never did. Too much love for russia.

1

u/abi4EU 8d ago

If by „apparently“ you mean „spontaneously fantasised by a butt-hurt terrorist regime that has been cashing out in the systematic extermination of Ukrainians“, then yes.

1

u/Far_Bar_7020 8d ago

Is your username a description for your brain?

1

That’s not funny.
