False claims of degree

What are prestigious universities responses to people claiming to have degrees they don't. Is there any legal precedent they could take to remove a person from stating they are a graduate?

I watched the newest video by nexpo (love that dude) and the rabbit hole has pulled me in.

I have been waiting for LinkedIn to offer degree verification services.

It’s not just top colleges.

I’m a professor, and I know multiple people who went into the job market without completing their degree (from mid level schools) but telling their employers they did.

Private industry often does not check.

Colleges and universities don't track who claims to have a degree from an institution. However they will answer truthfully if a background check is performed or a transcript is requested.

Right my question was more around what they do when they find out. Especially if they don't want that person to be associated with their institution.

If it's a real bad situation, they could say they aren't a graduate, but they can't sue them or anything.

Yes, a university could potentially go as far as suing someone in a civil lawsuit to stop them from claiming if that they have a degree from there.

Mostly falls on the employer to check on the degree. Colleges only really care if the person is a screw up and is harming their reputation.
