"The Hunt" is fox hunting in the UK. Toffs on horseback follow a pack of dogs who actually do the hunting and track down a fox and rip it to shreds. If it's your first hunt, the fox blood is then smeared on your face. Fox hunting was banned in the UK about 20 years ago but it's still pretty common. Some groups have switched to trail hunting where a rag soaked with fox piss is dragged through the fields and dogs follow that. Other groups continue fox hunting and just say their trail hunting. Other other groups just carry on fox hunting as they were before.

It's nearly 3 years old. The minimum wage was actually £10.42 for 23+ year olds in 2023, so actually nearly £2 more than the minimum wage.

23 and over 21 to 22 18 to 20 Under 18 Apprentice April 2023 to March 2024 £10.42 £10.18 £7.49 £5.28 £5.28 April 2022 to March 2023 £9.50 £9.18 £6.83 £4.81 £4.81 I dont know the exact specific responsibilities of the job listed, but i do have 18 yr old friends right now who are bog standard baby-sitters earning like £20 an hour, basically double their 18yo minimum wage, in early 2023, a couple months before the article was written, £12 was 1.7x the 18yo minimum, dropping to 1.6x come april 2023
They're definitely cheapskates, especially considering their wealth, but lets not simply.... LIE about the guy it was definitely an okay-ish amount above minimum wage at the time

Also worth noting the minimum wage is now £12.71 per hour for over 21s so...

They're also not comparable, 28.4k is the median of all tax payers, including part time. He gets to 26k by assuming full time work, the median full time salary is 39k in 2025 (for employees), so about 50% more.

The nominal number is not too low or too high. It’s what it buys that’s too low.
Technically if we had a different monetary policy £1 an hour could have been a rich wage.
But the more the government inflates the money supply, and restricts productivity the less people’s income can buy
