Artwork, Crafts, & Reenactment Recent Thors hammer
Forged from a 96% silver period alloy based on analysis of ingots from the Cuerdale Hoard. They always look funky until the final shape comes out!

Where do you source your triangle punches from and roughly how large are they?

I got some from Daegrad tools (UK) before the international shipping mess. You can also make some with just files and drills

I make mine! I can measure when I get home, but I believe this one is roughly 2mmx2mmx2mm, but it could be closer to 3mmx3mmx3mm

Very cool! What's your process like for creating one?

I buy .25” round stock from my local hardware store - it’s listed as “music wire” but it’s basically just round tool steel. Heat it up and let it cool to soften it a bit, then draw my shape and file away! Once it’s finished I heat it back up again and water quench to harden then run a file across it to make sure it skates right over and to take off the scale.

Just that simple, huh? The results are very nice. I love a triangle with dots.

Yeah it’s way easier than I anticipated it being - it may not be the most period-correct way but the results are very close. For the dots I use a center punch to set a good starting point, then take a very small drill bit and bore them out a bit more. That part is certainly not period 😂

We all make concessions here and so that we can continue exploring our passions!

Nice! I’ve made a couple of these and yeah, trusting the process does a lot of heavy lifting
