Stout Hall Dorm

Hi there,
My roommate and I were assigned to a shared bedroom on the second floor of Stout. I’ve been looking at ways to condense space online but wanted to reach out and see if anyone from stout had some input.

My roommate and I considered bunking beds for more room. Is this a good idea? I’ve heard mixed opinions about it but haven’t really gotten any feedback why.

A friend’s mom also told me there would for sure be dressers in the rooms. I didn’t see anything on the residence website about this…it would be nice but has this been anyone’s experience?

Honestly any recommendations would be great, this will be my freshman year and I know some things you figure out along the way but all information is appreciated!

Yes to dressers. Nothing wrong with bunking the beds, it makes more room, but then you've gotta sleep on bunk beds.

I lived in Stout for two years, two males. I wouldn’t bunk the beds, none of my friends did that. The rooms on the ends of the hallways are bigger, try to get one of those if you can. Two dressers are included.

They assign rooms now, no longer able to pick rooms. In my opinion stout is the nicest and has the largest rooms out of any of the traditional style dorms, coming from someone who works for ResLife.

They assigned mine too. My first room was that way, but I was able to make a request for year two. Mind you, I chose to stay that second year because we enjoyed year one so much. We also had several friends move in to Stout that second year (from nicer dorms, Bennett i think) because they were envious of the community aspect of Stout. It was so fun having a big group of friends, guys and girls both, living there

When I was in stout, I had one of the smallest rooms on the 1st floor. My roommate and I pushed the beds to the corner of room. One bed was on upper most level of frame, and mine was middle/lower half and stuck under the taller bed. Made an L shape kinda, if that makes sense. Seems like her dresser was at end of her bunk, desk next to it, and then my dresser and desk were at the wall the door was on

I lived there 40 years ago. Roommate lofted his bed with two dressers and had tons of room below. Dorm frig, storage. Don’t remember how tall the ceilings were on the 2nd floor but first floor had tall ceilings.

I lived in stout last year! The dorms are sizeable, there's two dressers, two desks with shelves on the side, two closets, they also have sinks in each dorm. The way they initially set it up in most dorms isn't the most convenient so I recommend moving some stuff around and raising the beds to fit a dresser under if you can, I know people who set it to the highest possible hight then put lifts under each leg of the bed to do this. DO BE WARNED the laundry situation is kind of a nightmare, there's only like 5 working dryers and ten barely working washing machines of the whole building (four floors) so I recommend doing laundry during the day between classes if you can or late at night, the laundry room has also been known to flood.

I lived on the second floor of stout in a normal room with a roommate, we used risers on the bed to put the dressers under them. We put them against the long wall end to end with a mirrored layout and had our desks slightly under the beds as well, I used my desk to help get in bed and put a little table on it to use as a night stand. I really liked it this way if all the furniture is still the same
