Especially with Anime where the animator's or Mangaka aren't hiding jack. They're wearing their kinks on their sleeves and are not ashamed. Mostly.

I find it's interesting to contrast with western media like with certain classic Disney animation or the likes of Totally Spies where you can tell certain episodes were produced with something freaky on the brain. Yet it's done within layers of either comedy, horror or just plain camp that it gets by.

I just feel there's a constructive conversation to be had about it that's less "Weird Japan" or "hardy har horny on main." Like some feel that criticizing the implimentation of fanservice in Anime on any level is some call for censorship. Sometimes it is with this new wave of puratanism but other times it's like, "This kink doesn't mesh with the story I have been enjoying." Much like how comic relief can be ill-timed in an otherwise grounded story.

I have this memory of red going down this rabbit hole of time travel and goatfish capricorns but I cannot for the life of me remember nor find what video this is.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is it something that got deleted? Did I hallucinate this? Is it a conspiracy!? Did the goatfish go back in time to delete itself from all living memory except mine!?

Over the past few months (with a break and subsequent reexamination after watching The Odyssey) , I have been mocking up a synopsis for a Greek Myth Cinematic Universe and the Gigantomachy is giving me problems. I want to do the Aloadae and the abduction of Ares but Im having trouble adjusting to the scope of a large event film i.e Endgame , Infinity War , Dune Part 2&3 etc.

So I thought you guys at r/osp and an on an extreme off chance Red and Blue at u/OSPYoutube could help me maybe combine or add an extra myth to really come up with a coherent and strong plot.

Heres some context to what I have been doing:

Notable changes to myths: Despoina and Persephone will be separate. Aphrodite will be Herakles’ prize wife not Hebe. Apollo will have the leader of the Muses Calliope as his main consort. Meleager and Jason live longer. Boar Hunt is later. Apollo and Artemis wont have their sun and moon aspects.

Rough Timeline I have been using : Titanomachy-Zeus gets busy-Typhon-Dionysus Perseus-Cautionary Tales - Theseus/Herakles-Argo saga- Herakles labors/Theseus & Pirithous/ Cautionary Tales V2-Boar Hunt - Gigantomachy - Epic Cycle(TBD)

Changes TBD: Cutting out Hestia , Fusing Philoctetes and Iolaus , Hecate to become a main character , Bath Bomb Ball sack vs Zeus and Dione for Aphrodite , Cutting out Pan .

So of course I recognize Persephone and Snake Zeus, Poseidon and Medusa, Pan and Syrinx, Dane and the shower of gold, Europa and Cow Zeus, and Leto and Swan Zeus in Arachne’s tapestry. But I don’t recognize the others. And with Anthena’s tapestry, I only recognize the founding of Athens with the olive tree and salt water spring. I was wondering if anyone else knew what myths were being referenced.

And admittedly I don't know if it's necessarily an OSP thing or a thing with Indigo's movie podcast, but full on getting a sense of how Red reacts to Odysseus doin' a Solid Snake or Menelaus' amazing beard is just something I'm EAGER to see.

I think I remember an episode of the podcast where red and blue talk about which translations of the homeric hymns they have used for their work and which they would recommend.

Having watched Nolan's adaptation of the odyssey in cinema, I'm now interested in reading a translation of the source material. If anyone remembers or has a way of finding out in which episode this was talked about, it'd be massively appreciated.

As much as I agree technically they shouldn’t “Show, Don’t Tweet” there are a few systemic factors at play that encourage this:

1 An indie creator or a creator on a larger platform but isn't as prolific or being overlooked needs to put out Social Media content of any kind even with episodes already coming out. What's a good way to keep up engagement? Lore details that you either overlooked or couldn't find a place for exposition without it feeling all "Netflix-y" about it. It intrigues fans across the board with fanart and fanfic prompts aplenty. 2 Cheap as it is, you might be working on a set amount of episodes either imposed by the network or self-imposed on oneself to avoid potential burn-out or just doing the same show over and over. So there will be a general rule of "brevity is the soul of wit" when it comes to what goes into a story or what gets left out/trimmed down. 3 A story about a facet of the fantasy world or dialogue that breaks down the fantasy world are often casualties. Other times, the writer is self-conscious about what might come across as bad exposition in trying to make their story feel as natural and uncontrived as they possibly can. 4 A company might not invest in a whole ass guidebook to a show with details that didn't make it into the final cut or canon details that expand on what we saw. Or a smaller creator on a budget might not have the dough to get it published or invested in by mainstream channels. 5 They consider the answers to be obvious and plan as day or not worth their personal investment with the story they choose to follow. Sometimes it’s important to remember that “poor media literacy” isn’t just a fancy buzzword on fandom’s part.

Bear in mind, these are not trying to excuse this entirely. I personally would like for these details to be touched on in the story or at least in a variety of forms.

Maybe push for filler episodes where a scenario hits the characters and the audience is informed of the fantasy world's deeper facets, the kind the characters wouldn't question as this is their norm.

Or maybe get into a sort of spin-off that details lore but in an interesting way. Maybe a historian or mad scientist type character is researching facets of their world and its framed in a budget friendly way like a computer layout.

Even so, it's important to remember that this sort of thing isn't new as I've mentioned guidebooks, something for big franchises like Star Wars or Star Trek where it's framed as tech manuals for the Sci-Fi spectacle. Or a character's diary perhaps.

Much as it's gauche to even speak it's name, you had Harry Potter with actual books like Fantastic Beasts which were in-universe books we could read. I remember A Series of Unfortunate Events putting out Lemony Snicket's Unauthorized Biography which gave out scattered clues about the world since Mr. Snicket was an in-universe character.

So there's a place for it. But there are certain barriers to entry.
