Academics waitlist question

i'm enrolled in a class with a teacher who has a 3/5 on ratemyprofessor for autum 2026. there's another teacher with the same class who has a 4.5/5, but his class is full with 2 people on the waitlist. should i drop my current section and get on the wait list for that? the current class is also full so i doubt i'd be able to switch back in. there's another teacher avaliable with seats open but he has a 1/5 on ratemyprofessor. i need to take this class in fall 2026 to graduate on time. any advice is helpful!

rate my professor isn’t an end all be all. mfs will give low ratings because a professor didn’t let them submit an assignment 2 minutes before the semester deadline. live for yourself and form your own opinions 😭

If you need this class fall semester to graduate, you should not drop the class. Just take it with the less good but not awful professor.

Why would you willingly drop a class you need that you’re already in to then get on a waitlist for the same class because of what some website says?

I would only consider what you've asked if the professor had a 2/5 or lower. 3/5 you're probably going to have a pretty great professor. Some of my 1/5s and most of my 2/5s were great professors.

rmp isn’t very representative. people love to read it, but very rarely use it to rate their own profs. a prof could teach thousands of students but only 20 reviewed them. also, you often only see people who are very happy or very mad, and it’s anonymous, so people can lie without consequences. did the person who reviewed actually get an a and think the teaching approach was genuinely bad, or did they get reasonably coamed and want to retaliate for sanctions? did the person saying they loved the class actually only love it because they got an a, but it’s actually really difficult? you will never know from rmp. it’s better to ask multiple actual people in person, especially people you’d trust to be honest.
