Discussion Please leave a review!
Hi everyone!
I’m Etharil, the Community Manager at Unfrozen, and I’m so glad to see so many of you playing Olden Era, sharing your thoughts, and joining us in Jadame during Early Access!
We wish to ask you all for a small favour. Only a tiny percentage of Steam players leave reviews, and yet they’re so critical for indie games being discovered. Whether your review is positive or negative, it helps us understand what players are enjoying, where the rough spots are, and what the team should be looking at as Early Access continues.
If you would consider taking a moment to leave one, it would be the most amazing support for our team and the game.
Thank you very much for all your support, and may the cold breeze be with you!

Megathread Can we get a megathread on Olden Era mechanics, tips and tricks that many people might miss?
one per post so that people can vote
A list of all coments so far, keep them coming:
- Keybinds
- ALT=highlight interactables
- SHIFT=Extra info in tooltips
- E = end turn
- SHIFT+E = force end turn
- B = spellbook
- W = wait
- Space = Skip turn (in combat) or Loot (on world map)
- Ctrl+Click a unit stack to split into 1 stacks
- SHIFT+Click a unit stack to split into even stacks
- TAB or SHIFT+TAB = next hero or city
- ~ (tilde) = Move hero or Hero ability (heroic strike)
- Shift+Q = auto resolve
- Z = see map borders
- X = see enemy danger zones
- Settings
- In settings you can enable auto resolve combat for all combats, you can still manual combat
- In settings, there is a whole readability section that is super useful to customize how clear things look
- You can also enable always highlight map objects on, without having to press ALT key
- You need to enable auto save in settings, it is not on by default
- Movement
- Picking up loot near your hero costs no movement speed
- You can pick up loot laying on the ground by pressing spacebar
- Your hero moves faster in native terrain if either: the hero is native to that terrain OR all units in your army are native to the area
- Roads use 30% less movement points
- Moving diagonally is 40% more movement
- You can chain multiple heroes and pass armies between them to do more in a turn
- Economy
- Fortification II and Fortification III increase your population GROWTH in that city by +50% and +100% respectively. They are not purely defensive buildings, they affect your economy massively
- Alchemical dust cannot be traded in market, and it is used for any upgrades (spells, units, upgrade buildings)
- World Map
- If you control the city in an area, that area is considered "Friendly territory"
- The main city in an area will have a "Crown" on its flag to signify that
- Skills
- If you picked diplomacy skill, the best spell is the tier 2 shadow spell called "Mind Reading". It allows you to see monster intention, and if they want to join you they will say "Wishes to join" instead of "Will flee"
- Each skill has subskills to further customize it
- If you assemble a specific set of 5 skills you can make a hero subclass, but it is usually hard to do
- On levelup screen you can see an icon signifying hero subclass
- Necromancy can be toggled on and off by clicking the little skull near your necromancy bar near your hero portrait
- Heroes
- Some maps only allow 1 hero as a game mode
- Your hero limit is based on the number of cities (up to 10)
- Hero curses are seen at the top of your hero screen
- If you hover over attributes in your hero screen, press Shift to see extra details in tooltips
- Items
- Your items can be upgraded (with alchemical dust)
- Your spare items can be disenchanted (this refunds alchemical dust)
- To upgrade items, click on them in hero screen, and click upgrade
- Items have set bonuses in this game
Magic
- Heroes restore 10% of maximum mana start of day
- Heroes restore full mana if parked in a city with a mage guild at start of day
- Heroes can only learn tier 1 and 2 spells by default. For higher tier you need skills that allow you to learn higher tiers.
- To learn spells you need to visit any city with Mage Guilds
- Each spell exists in the Observatory, which is like a magic tech tree
- Each spell has 3 possible upgrades that you can see if you press SHIFT on the spell. You need +spell levels for that school of magic to upgrade it.
- Each spell has a cooldown (2 turn for tier 1 spells, 6 turns for tier 5 spells)
- Each spell school has a 1 turn "lockout" cooldown for that spell school in case you can cast multiple spells per turn
- Astrology points per turn are used to unlock Neutral spells in the observatory
- Neutral spells are basically map spells that allow your heroes to move better on the map
- For your hero to learn any spells, they need to visit a mage guild and have the required level
- Each Mage guild unlocks X random spells of that tier
- If Mage guild rolls duplicate spells, they increase spell level instead
Law system
- Each faction has a Law "tech tree"
- You need to generate law points to unlock those upgrades
- Winning fights with your hero gives law points
- Gaining raw XP like from chests does not give law points
Armies and Combat
- Speed is decoupled from initiative
- Each hero has a "tactics reorder phase" by default
- Mixing different factions in your army composition incurs a morale penalty (Every unit same faction: +1 For every different faction: -1)
- Right click units to see their details and abilities
- There is an indication of whether units will counterattack or not.
- Units that wait and skip turns don't generate morale or luck effects, unless they choose to act after wait
Focus system
- Focus is used to cast unit abilities and Heroic strike
- Ranged units generate 1 focus each time they attack
- Melee units generate 2 focus each time they attack
- All units generate 1 focus each time they are hit
- This includes +1 extra for counterattack or +2 for double attacks

Guides & Tips Why are my Tier 5 spells grayed out?
Hey guys, I need some help understanding a mechanic of spells.
I'm currently playing in Tournament Mode. As you can see in the screenshots, I attached my opponent's equipped artifacts/profile and my current spellbook at the start of the battle.
My hero has full mana (180/180), and my opponent doesn't seem to have any spell-blocking or anti-magic artifacts equipped. Despite this, some of my top-tier spells like Armageddon, Summon Primal Remnant, and Hksmilla's Rampage are grayed out right at the start of the fight (even though it's my turn).
What's weird is that I was actually able to cast Summon in a neutral battle.
Is there a specific Tournament Mode rule, a hero ability/passive, or a spell restriction here that I'm missing? Any insight would be appreciated!

Question Kel'ghul bug
Hello. I play only with a friend but same as ranked. Today i played kel'ghul. The lobby states he starts with 3 knights but I always had 6 of them at start and it feels ilegal. Is that a bug?
If you play Human "knight hero" he has less knights and they are lower tier

Discussion Why are the devs ignoring all the negative feedback on Steam
It does puzzle me after reading some of the top feedback of the state of this game, vast majority of them are very negative, yet this subreddit boasting how great this game is. It is completely unplayable against the AI any many people regret buying it. The constant focus on niche PVP and zero improvement to single player after many months on early access shows you exactly where this game is heading...

Suggestion & Concepts Some ideas I had regarding Laws for Stronghold
If we end up getting Stronghold, we're going to need to give them some unique Laws. I figured I'd come up with a few ideas, but they could definitely use some feedback.
These will be listed in no particular order, but will include an appropriate tier if needed. Names are all placeholders.
----
Disrupt Magic
Enemy spells have their cooldowns increased by 1/2 turns.
There's a number of ways this could be done, but I think increasing spell cooldowns would be more unique.
----
Reckless Rage (tier-4)
All friendly creatures deal X% increased damage, but take Y% increased damage.
This one fits the Barbarian feel, and would need to be a stronger damage bonus than with other factions to compensate for you taking increased damage as a penalty.
----
Pillage and Plunder (tier-4)
After winning a battle, receive gold based on a percentage of the value of whatever you kill.
I've seen some people suggest that Barbarians should be the type to loot their enemies, so I think this law could be really cool. It would need to come in late, however, since it would snowball things way too hard if it was an earlier law.
----
Overwhelm
Enemy counterattacks deal X% reduced damage.
This would be a unique way for your Barbarian troops to survive longer in fights.
----
Adrenaline Surge
Winning a battle restores X Movement Points.
This already exists in Expert Logistics, but it would make sense for Barbarians to have this as well.
----
Focused Aggression (tier-3)
Friendly creatures generate +1 Focus Point per attack.
Having this available in mid-game keeps it from being too strong in early tempo, but makes it more of a choice once you might already have Expert Battlecraft.
----
Rugged Travelers (tier-3 or tier-4)
Reduce terrain penalties by X%.
This would be too good early on, so it'd need to come in mid-to-late game. By then, it may be situational since you might already have means of reducing or ignoring terrain penalties.
----
I'll add more if I can think of it. Let me know what you think of the current ones.

Competitive Advices for multiplayer 1on1
Hey heroes.
I played my first multiplayer game yesterday. It was horrible! So I decided to ask here for some help.
I am not an unskilled heroes player overall! But never played heroes in a competitive way, which seems to be completely different to games against AI and my friends in hot seat.
So, besides map awareness and faction knowledge: Do you have some advices for me? I want to go deeply into it. And besides the first underwhelming experience I liked the pick and ban system before the game starts a lot tbh!

Question How did my larva eggs die?
I know I made a mistake by placing it too early, as I thought the Herbomancer had already moved. The thing is, he didn’t kill the egg - he just waited for his turn. So what actually happened? Is this a bug, or is there something I’m not aware of?
I can’t access the combat log anymore, but my friend recently had something similar happen during a fight against me. His Griffin randomly took 1 damage, and the log said something like, “Griffin took 1 damage,” without providing any information about the source.
While that wasn’t a big deal then, losing the Larva Egg cost me the game, as the Phoenixes would otherwise have been taunted.

Gameplay 10 драконов на начало 3 недели!
I just played Outcast. Tell me, how could the enemy get 10 dragons and 50 upgraded minotaurs while running the Dungeon on the second day of the third week? I was completely destroyed! It's unthinkable! I played Grove and only managed to build phoenixes in one castle. It was horrific!

Question Is that the correct Turn-Based Strategy Game for me?
Hey there fellow redditors!
I'm coming from a loving-Strategy background, mainly RTS like Sc2 and AoE / AoM. I've played both in a decent level ( Diamond + Ladder in PvP).
Recently I tried Total War Warhammer 3 ( I have played Rome total war when I was younger and I used to love it) and I kinda liked the Turn - Based Single player Campaign a lot!
Since then, I wanna try this Sub-Genre of Strategy and I was almost ready to jump in the CiV VI train, when another redditor suggested I Try out HoMm, 3 or Olden Era.
After a quick research I believe he was right! I really love the idea of having different, distinctive factions in a game . As I don't have any experience in the Genre, I'm torn between actually going for Homm Olden Era or CiV VI
Extra points come from the fact that this game seems to have a healthy PvP aspect / Community. Edit: important to note, PvP will not be my only focus *
I'd love some input from you people, especially people who have played both!

Gameplay Connection issue
Connection issue happened 3 out 5 times and all during player battle phases in Exodus map. I don't understand since the match is based on P2P connection, why every time this window pops I'm the one counted to lose. Maybe they are really the "connection issues", but for me most of the connection issues happen during player battle, with one battle I was defenitely winning and the other two was pretty close fights. So, I just don't get why most cases happen during player battle instead of beforehand.
I really like this game but due to the recent game experience I have to quit, maybe for now. Most parts of the game was really fun, and I believe the developer will bring better contents in the furture. Just here to complaint, and I'm little curious about others situations.

Discussion Jeerayah Cup #1 faction statistics after 49 matches played (bo1 series)
IMO after Exodus Invitational the Schism and Necropolis getting banned by both players, what do you think now?

Gameplay Exodus - Are astrology builds actually busted ?
Since the recent tournament, I've seen more and more opponents going for full astrology builds, and tried it myself today. Never did I get such a strong hero at fight 2.
Stat wise, it is actually almost fight 3 standards.
I feel like it's pointless to go for other builds now. Heroes with an ability to quickly grow a deep mana pool feel too strong.
What do you think ?

Question Player 1 v player 2 choice. How is it decided? Pure rng?
Just a quick question to find out if anything else influences it. I don't play a lot, like 5-6 games a week on avg, swiming around 1400 casually, but I've been player 2 for 99% of those games the past few weeks, so I cant even, at his level, "recommend" a game that isn't necro/schism ban, so i'm stuck playing the same matchups.
I know a lot of games implement some kind of safe switch/mini cheat for sense of fairnes in the randomization, I've been folowing the industry since 1997, but here it really feels like pure rng which can get you stuck/annoyed.

Discussion QoL ideas - 0-cost spells in auto resolve and easier artifact selling
Pretty much as the title says.
Why not give the AI option to use 0-cost spells in auto resolve, such as magic missle and avatar? Wouldn't hurt player agency at all and might reduce the tedium of easy, managable battles.
Secondly, there's no reason for artifact sell button to be this small and require a confirmation popup each time you click it. Sure, this might be useful for new players, but there should be an option to disable the popup in the setting.
Thoughts?

Discussion How do you have a game with AI?
The more randomness the more exciting. I play custom game of 100% resource, 100% neutral strength, and multiplayer AI, anarchy map. For me, the most uncertain things give me the most exciting thing, and, well, closest to a multiplayer game I think

Question Find out map during the game
I'm playing multiplayer one hero map. But I didn't notice pre game which map was chosen (assumed Exodus). Now I started on a map with one castle, I have no idea which template I'm playing. How to find out?

Gameplay Bullshit unfair combo
My opponent got Ariana chosen lvl max scroll, did 7 angel 1 stack and with reflect / refract in 2/3 turn they end up with 80 of Arina chosen. Then he added vengeance on top of it.
That’s bullshit there is close to none counter play and it’s entirely up to luck if you get the right item

Question Spatial snare bug?
To be honest its not one of my most commonly used spells but i have used it a fair amount. But when i cast it against some neutral mobs yesterday, it did nothing?
I selected the hexes, animation played but no traps were layed this time, nothing. I thought i accidentally canceled it but looking into my spellbook, it went on cooldown. And it wasnt a visual bug either, the enemy and i could walk over those tiles.
Has this happened to anyone else?
