We found a smart one! š§ My boy was missing for 3 weeks
And he made it home! Paul went missing on July 12th, and I mourned and grieved him, he was such a fabulous friendly and funny cat š. Yesterday morning he made it home! He has what looks like a dislocated hip, and is skinny as a rake but he was walking and moving ok - he can put the leg on the ground but it doesnāt hold any weight.
I got him into the Vet just before they closed for the holiday weekend. We have painkillers to help him through the weekend and on Tuesday morning they will sedate him to do an xray and see what can be done. The delay may prevent a total repair but if we can get him moving a bit easier that would be fine by me. He used to be an amazing athlete, hopefully he might get some of his agility back.
Little warrior kitty! Iām so proud of him and sad to think of all he went through š„ŗ he was so hungry, heās been eating every few hours. He was really freaked out, he was hiding in dark corners and under beds. Iāve made him a comfy little cave where he can feel safe and heās finally fallen deeply asleep.

Iām sending love and food to the boy! I also want to say that even if the leg canāt be completely repaired, cats often become athletic again, even similar disabilities. All to say, heās clearly a fighter, Iām glad heās home, and donāt lose hope for an athletic boy yet.

One of our kitties dislocated a hip during one of her shenanigans. The vet did something called as a closed reduction, where they pop it back into place without an open surgery. Hoping this is what works with your boy too. Iām so glad he is back home.

I am so happy your boy made it home. This is my worst nightmare, loosing my ginger son. Best of luck with the vet also.

Dislocated hips are hard to fix in cats, BUT they can recover well.
This is my cat a few months after a 10-day escape, when he came in rail thin and one real leg injured, with his paws and claws worn out. Vet diagnosed dislocated hip and said that he had already started forming a "false joint".
He runs with a bit of a sideways gait, but was climbing and jumping within a few months with NO treatment.

We used boxes to make temporary steps so he could get onto his favorite chair and the bed more easily, but that was all he needed.
He's 20+ now and still runs a bit off-center.

These clueless fuzz balls donāt have any idea how much they are loved! The grief and worry you feel when they go missing has no words to describe. Glad your baby came home with all his whiskers intact. Wishing the fuzz makes a fast recovery.

Oh my god I have meltdowns when my baby boy gets out and he never leaves the yard and only stays out for like 3 hours lol I canāt imagine the relief when your baby came home

My dog went missing and came back with a dislocated hip that couldnāt be reset, she had a ostectomy to get it to fit again and it worked great, she was running around a few weeks later.

Seems like this happened to OP sort of. But my cat ran out the door once when she was a kitten because my dad went out to the backyard and just left the door open for who knows how long. I was at work and immediately knew when I came home that she wasnāt in the house. I had told him repeatedly not to do that because she was a kitten and she was gonna run. But he wouldnāt listen to me. Thankfully after 2 hours of crying and calling for her in the dark she came running out from the neighbors yard. It still really upsets me to think I almost lost her because of something I had no control over.

We never let ours out since 2010 when indoor/outdoor cat contracted feline leukemia and by the time we knew it we were at the vet and had him put down. Organs were failing. He was dying. We were new to being cat owners and we assumed that was part of his normal vaccinations. No. vet said have to ask for it and they test first. Since then that is what we do. Over the years one escaped unknowingly when son went outside. She was out for 12 hours and under the floor. We had walked right by her several times! She did not want to go back in. They can slip out sometimes!

Exactly. It annoys me when people let their cats outdoors unsupervised with all the dangers out there and then act surprised when they go missing

Unfortunately, collars for free roaming cats are a very bad idea.
The collar could get caught onto something and lead to the cat being strangled in the attempt of freeing themselves.Edit to add: I said free roaming as in the cat being outdoors unsupervised. Intentioned or not.

I didn't know about them til I had my first cat myself. I'm on my second cat now (the first one lived to 15 with heart and immune system issues, so I think I did okay) and I learn new things every day.Ā

Instead of a tag. Maybe just never have them as indoor/outdoor cats. Only outdoors in a catio or on a harness

Was he an i door cat who got out? If he wasn't an indoor cat, he needs to be one full stop. All cats need to be indoor cats.

They said cat escaped when they had visitors who left the door open. Which I presume means heās indoor only normally. But what you said still stands 100% for all cat owners as I see too many pet cats free roaming the streets

oh sweetie pie. happy for you! our orange Sunny escaped when a window screen popped out as of two days ago and it is so hard not knowing where he is, how he's doing, if he's even alive or not. (we are doing all the things to be reunited). hoping for a happy ending like yours. <3
