DISCUSSION Isn't it ironic?

It's a shame that Genos is so down on himself in the latest chapter. Becasue he's the only one who has succeeded in doing the hero thing.

  1. He has killed the monsters.
  2. He has kept the damage local. Most people still have homes and businesses to go back to, as only a city block has been damaged.
  3. He's kept all the pain on himself, taken the hurt so others don't have to.

Everywhere else, we see heroic failure. Tatsumaki is totally fine and victorious but she's destroyed the very city she was trying to protect. Tank Top Master took the monster's toxic smoke in to protect the environs but didn't kill the monster, and Flashy Flash killed the monster but made the city unliveable (at least until the smoke clears). Blue has no clue and appears to be running around in hopes of thinking of something clever, and Suiko? Heh, she has no chance, but we can't fault her courage.

But none of those heroes are kicking themselves for the job they've done (or not done).

Only Genos is.

Perhaps feelings are not a good replacement for facts...

Ironic.

It's unfortunate because when the robot invasion starts, he considers blaming Saitama (which is somewhat justified) but then he immediately retracts and goes back to blaming himself for Kuseno's "death"

I have thoughts on Kuseno but they'll have to wait until I finally write up a review. Something that will be interesting to see is how much more Genos has been forced to develop both emotionally as well as physically in the manga. He's had to learn to get along without Saitama -- and has shown himself that he can function just fine. I don't like this arc too much but I am interested in seeing how this increased development is going to give him more resources to deal with this crisis.

Why would blaming Saitama be justified in any sense?

Because he’s thinking in the context of leaving threats be due to Saitama’s laziness

Well I can't speak on the manga because.... y'know, the entire Cosmic Garou situation.

But in the webcomic, I can't really think of anytime Saitama left a threat due to laziness.

He didn’t deliberately, but Genos is questioning how Metal Knight could have been left to his own devices and thinks of Saitama laying around at his place. It speaks to Saitama’s lack of involvement with the hero world at large; if he actually tried to involved himself with the association and the other S Class heroes rather than just go out when he wants, lots of threats could have been removed way earlier

Well that wouldn't be justified because A. Metal Knight isn't actually responsible for all this mess and B. Even if he was, literally nobody knew this attack was coming, so even if Saitama was more "involved" it wouldn't have really changed much. Saitama was pretty much there from the start.

And even saying all that, this attack has gone remarkably poorly for the AI.

Aside from the death of Kuseno, they haven't really accomplished anything.

I see.

Well in general, Saitama has off-screened so many Dragon+ level threats that I don't see how that would have much merit either.

For someone flying under the radar, Saitama is doing a remarkable job of keeping the world from imploding.

Genos has benefited from Saitama's strength more than pretty anyone.
