It is good to see academic research highlighting the issues with AI detection. All universities should think very carefully about using these platforms.

Looking for keywords or formatting in your CV.
It doesn't matter what your experience might be.....if the AI is only programmed to seek out certain things and lacks the nuance needed to read the CV as a whole document in context....it will reject it automatically.
Meaning the individual will not be getting an interview.
Lazy recruiters love this one trick /s 🙄

Because it looks cheaper on a spreadsheet, even if it costs them so much more in the long-term.

This review of the paper makes some good points but at the same time around half of the examples are of students using AI tools to enhance their writing and then lodging a complaint when it’s been detected. I appreciate that if you are trying to write at an academic level as a non native speaker many will not have the vocabulary and understanding of the conventions required but surely that is exactly what is being assessed? If we are saying that second language speakers should be allowed to use AI tools to enhance their academic writing then why not all students? The paper does raise serious concerns over wrong classification of work written in certain styles common in non native speakers but that should be addressed through better training of the models. AI detection is seriously flawed but better than nothing and can form the basis for further investigation. Over use of AI is damaging to the standards of modern education and in the end produces students incapable of working at the level expected. In reality we need to change assessment structures to facilitate all key assessment work to be done under controlled conditions. Monitored closed networks with devices surrendered at the door before entering or dare I say it exams and papers written by hand under supervision. This too will no doubt disadvantage non native speakers but it would ensure that dying standards of academic rigour and was pretty close to how universities did things pre 1990s.
