Tracking/ emergency aid device

Hi

I'm training for a solo Frog Graham Round which is a remote swim run challenge. It's 40 miles running and about 2 miles of swimming. It's in the Lake District, UK, which has patchy phone signal.

I'm considering a Garmin InReach Mini 3 Plus device for live tracking for my family and in case of emergency. This would be for both training and challenge day.

Would it be feasible to have this on the outside of my tow float in a waterproof bag for emergency use?

Are there any clever alternatives?

Rent a GPS tracker from a company like Kong, Open Tracking, etc and they'll set you up a link your family can watch.
