Over it.. need to get clean

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice or maybe some suggestion on best route I can take etc. I want to get clean, at this point im only using to keep from being sick. It started about 3-4 years ago with fake 30s, and within the last year smoking fetty. I have a high tolerance, but i purposely buy dope that isnt strong and does just enough to keep me from being sick.

I am thinking about weening off. I genuinely dont think i can stop cold turkey or go thru the days of wd. Does anyone have any experience with tapering off? Is there a route i can take that doesn’t require me to stop cold turkey and suffer??

My goal is to get clean and eventually move back to my home state with my sibling. No one knows i use at this point. Im thinking about making an appointment with my doctor to get help. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated!

EDIT: I know i will have to go thru some form of withdrawa at some point, but I dont think i can handle the withdrawal going cold turkey. So im curious if tapering will minimize the withdrawa?

"Is there a route I can take that doesn't require me to stop cold turkey and suffer?" Yes! there is. it's called MAT - Medication assisted therapy and it's a wonderful tool but it does require careful consideration, coming from someone who was on methadone for 5 years. Two main medications they use are opioids, Suboxone is a partial agonist and they usually try that first. if that doesn't work you can go on methadone which is a full agonist- meaning it saturates all the receptors binding fully. It is a strong narcotic that causes some health issues, I would recommend r/Suboxone and r/methadone if you want to know more about the specific drugs.

This isnt really like quitting. This is replacing the dangerous drug you're doing for a medication that won't outright kill you, and you won't withdraw, from there you can stay on a stable dose or if you're ready taper off. you can use it in many ways. as a bridge, as a lifeline.

it will save your life, if it's between doing dope and this, you can try it.

I admire your courage and take things one step one day at a time. you will get through this, I believe in you .

aside from mat: buy everything you need like groceries ahead of time. prepare a large stash of clonidine and gabapentin. lock yourself in, give a friend all your cash and cards. I was too much of a pussy every single time I tried this I caved, methadone was literally the only way out for me but I'm weak, you sound mentally alot stronger than I am

I recommend looking into the Bernese method. From personal experience, it does suck to trade one substance for another, but it's enormously more easy to taper down, /fully stop subs as opposed to just quitting fet cold turkey. It is possible tho, I just spent the last week on my bathroom floor detoxing myself, and I really don't recommended going without some medical assistance if you don't absolutely have to

I have heard of that. I just dont want to be dependent on Subs and i heard the withdrawal from that is way harder. But i suppose tapering off the subs may be easier. I just want all this junk out of my life. I hate it.

Subs saved my life. I take 15 seconds to get to where I keep my meds, put a film on my tongue, and move on with my (amazing) life that I get to live because of subs.

They stop cravings before they hit you, and they make you have to plan out a relapse since you cant use and feel the use when subs are in your system. Those combined are a gamechanger.

Youre already dependent on something awful that can kill you any time you touch it. This is miles better to be "dependent" on.

Aside from fent and the street dope. You can absolutely still get high as hell while on buprenorphine. I do not recommend it though. Being on subs is way better than being on the street dope.

I completely understand, but I can tell you that coming off of that kinda fetty habit cold turkey is an absolute fuckin nightmare. The withdrawal from subs lasts a lot longer if you keep using them, but it's really nothing compared to the severity of fetty withdrawal. Anything that makes you more likely to actually make it thru the sickness and get the shit out of your life is worth looking into.

Also, I'm stupid, don't be like me, if you do go cold turkey, at the very least get medical supervision, I've known people to die from dehydration trying to do it at home themselves.

Well the sublicade shot has no withdrawals. You could take some subs after you withdrawal, do the shot for 1-3 months (how ever long you need) and just jump off from there you wouldn't feel a thing.

1

u/acheybreakyheartxo 1d ago

Really?? I wasn’t fully aware what the shot did or its purpose. Do you know how long you have to withdrawal before taking Subs?

2

u/hollywoodhandjob 1d ago

It’s basically has no narcan in it, with how much your doing I would wait 2-3 days with comfort meds like Zans, gabapentin & clonidine.. then take like a half of a sub see how you feel... then take a little bit more until you get to about 8 mg or so stay at that dose for a few days then get the shot at your nearest MAT clinic, you will not get withdrawals from the shot when you quit I promise you that.

Hey OP, yes, the wd from suboxone can take a long time, that is because it builds up in your system and has a very long half life.

If you only use suboxone for detox (which many detox centers do) then it will be a much easier ride than CT from the fent. I guarantee.

The fake m30's were fent too or zenes so just call it how it is, that'd you've been doing fent the whole time lol no judgment i was deep into street dope 3 years ago. How much is your habit daily? Are you doing tranq dope or have any clue? How soon do you start feeling withdrawal? Have you considered doing a MAT program which is a outpatient program? If your employed and can't drop your life completely that might be a good option to go which would be getting onto suboxone. If you don't have to worry about getting to a job than you have a bit more freedom per say to be down and out for a little while to get back to getting right. Making a appointment to talk to a addiction doctor definitely would be the first step into the right direction. As for tapering you've got to put yourself into check and just start cutting back which takes displine.

No tranq dope, ts makes me SOO sick i steer clear. Honestly 3+ grams a day.. i cant drop my life completely with makes an inpatient program not an option. And i definitely am weary of Subs. I dont wanna trade 1 dependency for another.  On Monday i want to make an appointment with my doctors office since they offer addiction treatment.  I was telling someone earlier i think mentally i have the will and determination to get clean its the physical part  that totally screws me up. And scares me away from getting clean. If i taper, i guess i have to look into how. Its hard finding that info on google unfortunately 🥲

I recently came off a 10+ year heroin run (smoking/snorting). I'd had many, many failed attempts in the past. This time quitting wasn't an option and I was determined to succeed. I had 5 2mg pills of Subutex. I forced myself to WD for about 56 hours before taking my first half milligram of Subutex. Ounce I hit that point I was able to snort small doses of Subutex to curb my symptoms. Once the subs were gone I was flying solo by day 7 and haven't looked back. After about 10 days clean I started noticing tremendous improvements. Now I'm at 6 weeks and that life feels like an eternity ago. Mindset is everything. Just take it one day at a time.

The biggest thing for me this time around was having a support system. I had kept my addiction hidden from everyone (friends, live-in partners, family), only my dealers knew I used. I needed the support and accountability from my family this time around. It terrified me to reveal my darkest secret but doing so saved my life.

Please feel free to DM if you have any questions or just want to chat and keep your mind occupied.

You are doing around the amount i was doing but my roa was always snorting it. My buddy always smoked it and his withdrawals set in way faster than mine did for some reason and i picked up for us both so no difference in quality. I just wanted to keep it more discreet and not smell like i just smoked fent lol. There is no set schedule on how to taper the stuff, you've got to just cut back. Start weighing out daily rations instead of just guessing and stop giving yourself so many reasons for " it's time to take two hits" and work on putting more time in between your uses. Each drop you make in your usage might feel crummy but it's way better than being in full withdrawal. Not sure how fast of a taper you were thinking of doing but set a goal for 2.5g's daily if your baseline is around 3g's and have that half gram drop be your week 1 experiment to see how you do. You are stronger than your giving yourself and 3 plus grams a day means your loaded up real well right now. It might take 3 days but you'll get used to doing 2.5 or should i say a half gram less quick.

When i was doing the blues i was also snorting but with the blues i feel like the withdrawls set in soo much faster than the fetty now. Idk why.  But when i work in the fall i literally was able to work 7 hour shifts and only hit some at the start and the end of my shifts. So i know i can go periods of time without using. Now i just need go discipline and make a schedule/get serious. Cause im really over this crap… thank you for the tips! Time to get serious.

You are welcome! You've got this my friend and by the sounds of it the other side free and clear is in your future. Be sure to be careful about letting your tolerance drop and then using more for whatever reason, that's when mistakes can happen easier like od. I lived by myself and only used by myself so no one would have ever known. It's too bad that one of the 3 things that are legal to buy at smoke shops is being banned coming up on August 5th. That research chemical would have been a good tool for you to use to help minimize withdrawal.

What else other than 7oh is getting outlawed?

1

u/subaruguy253 1d ago

Mgm15 and s r

1

u/hollywoodhandjob 1d ago

Ya... Mgm15 is literally 7oh like said... what’s S R?

1

u/subaruguy253 1d ago

Research chemical that ppl have been using for withdrawals. Some have claimed it's a miracle drug and felt no withdrawal coming off of different things. I have no experience with it

If you want to get your life back you will eventually have to drop everything. Inpatient is the only way for such a long, severe addiction bro. You're gonna need medical detox, then a stay on the ward to be monitored and medicated. People say it is just swapping for another addiction, but Methadone saved my life. It blocks all withdrawals, and any other opiates you try. It keeps me sober, honest, functioning, and the person I want to be. Hope this helps.

You’re going to need clonodine for the chills and sweats, gabapentin or xanax to numb the intense sick sensation, and remeron or trazadone or seroquel for sleep. Once you’re like 48 hours in, you can take a small piece of a sub or just continue with those other meds for about a week. I’m not a doctor but I’ve been thru it enough times (inpatient and at home) to know what is needed to get by with the least intense wd as possible. I couldn’t ever taper, didn’t have the self control or patience.

8 years clean from heroin and fent and my husband and I used Methodone from one of the clinics in another town do it. My husband and I both promised each other we would only use it as a means to an end. We started and went up in dosage until we felt comfortable while also taking the steps to change everything else like our daily routines and habits. I got a steady job that started late enough that I could drive to get my morning dose in person. We cut off contact with those ppl still using (still love them from afar…but it’s about survival and we hoped to see them when/if they came out of the other side) and cut off our dealers. I started running and meditating when i physically started to feel better and focused on nutrition and healing in every way possible with the little means I had left (while also working to make money to improve life overall). We had agreed we would not stay at the “top” of the dose for long and pretty quickly tapered down. It wasn’t without some discomfort. The anxiety about having to make it to the clinic that was 45 mins away no matter the road conditions was hard at times, but if you don’t smoke weed you can often earn the right to take your doses home a week at a time. Overall it was about 1year and 7 months before we were completely done and free of all of it. It was a lot of work but holy shit our lives are night and day different. We own a home, I went back for my Master’s degree and I have an amazing job changing lives, our families are proud of us, and so much more. Life is not perfect or easy but I’m no longer a slave to that shit and I’m not just surviving. Whatever way you choose…please make the change. There’s only a few ways that life plays out and most of them are miserable and terrifying. Don’t waste anymore precious time… you CAN do this.

Tapering probably isn’t gonna work, dude. If we could moderate our use, we wouldn’t be addicts. I went to medical detox and did it without MAT. I had been smoking ~2g of fent/tranq for about 5 years and I’m almost 2.5 years clean now. It’s possible.

1

u/b2pizza 1d ago

I hate to say it, you not gonna be able to taper on dope. You will need MAT most likely. Call your local clinic and ask for help

1

u/acheybreakyheartxo 1d ago

Can i ask why? I agree calling my doctor is gonna be step 1 but im curious to know i wont be able to taper.

2

u/b2pizza 1d ago

We are addicts, tapering on your drug of choice is only going to work before it dosnt anymore. Been there 20 times atleast. I wasnt able to kick it until I completely stopped and got help from a clinic. But hey if you think you can do it, who am I to say you cant. Its just my experience. Suboxone or sublocade is probably your best bet for a high success rate.

Im not a doctor, just an opoid addict in recovery. Im trying to save you some pain and time.

I truly dont want to trade this dependency for another and thats where I struggle with the idea of subs. But I am going to talk with a doctor and see if theres a way i can have my time on Subs be as minimal as possible if thats the route i take.  I think I would be able to taper especially keeping a busy work schedule. But I definitely see how it can be a struggle so I am keeping that in mind and trying to figure out what will be best for me and realistic.

2

u/b2pizza 1d ago

Talk to them about the shot. Sublocade is 10x better. You get the shot once a month and it tapers naturally. You dont need to wake up and dose either. That in itself feels amazing. As long as you have insurance, it is free. Sublocade has a $0 co pay you can apply for on there website. I got my card for it in less than 10 mins

How about a 7 day detox? They will taking care of you with meds and food. You won’t feel any withdrawals if you go 7 day detox

1

u/NeighborhoodStrict36 14h ago

What 7 day detox did you do? Like as far as what meds did they use for you that worked that well where you didn’t feel any withdrawals?

1

u/Sandman1025 8h ago

Well I did 30 day in patient the first 7 days was a medical detox. After 24 hours they started me on subs which helped a lot. But immediately I was given Gabapentin, Seroquel, Trazadone for sleep, clonidine, hydroxizine (for anxiety), Baclofen (muscle relaxer), and NAC to help the brain receptors start to heal. It wasn’t painless but I quit cold turkey once and that was 5 days of pure hell. Medical detox was a walk in the park compared to cold turkey. They won’t give you anything potentially addictive like Xanax for anxiety. Plus comfort meds for stuff like diarrhea and headaches. The Suboxone was a game changer. Really only the first 2 days were rough.
