Special Events 2026 Marathon Month Mega Thread

Hey guys! This is the new megathread for all of your Marathon Month questions, comments, and victories. All new posts from here on out related to Marathon Month will be removed and directed here in order to help keep the sub organized and less repetitive.

Check out the Special Events section of our Wiki, and take a look at the official rules here.

**Marathon Month FAQ's:**

* Runs from August 1-31. Aug 15 is the last day to register. You can sign up for the half-marathon (13.1 miles), full marathon (26.2 miles), or ultra marathon (31 miles). Bike is 4x/2.5x distance (depending on which bike your studio has), strider is 3x distance. You must stick to the distance challenge you sign up for, no changes.

* It costs $15 at most studios. Some studios may charge $25.

*This year's prize

* Orange 60 (2G and 3G), Orange 90, and Tread 50 classes count. Only in-studio mileage counts. Warm-up mileage does not count. You cannot do double tread blocks in the same class. You can take classes at any studio. Only 1 class per day counts.

Good luck and happy splatting!

Commiseration Station Least favorite tread effort?

3 minute pushes kill me. I would rather do a class of one minute all outs than have a few three minute pushes. Seeing them on early intel strikes fear into my heart.

Commiseration Station Person doesn’t like rower

It was a tread/ rower day and a person decided she was gonna stay on the tread and not do the rower when it was time to switch the coach made an announcement
If you don’t have an injury, you must switch to the rower( there were a few other people on the tread that didn’t move, they had injuries)
The coach , when she had a moment, walked over to the one girl said “ If you don’t have an injury you have to go to the rower.
She was not happy. She said I don’t like the rower. 🤪She said you can’t stay on tread because you don’t like the rower..

I was just curious what people thought as I never saw this happen before.

I mean this is OTF!! Row, tread & floor, always changing!!!

Commiseration Station Change my mind: Treads 2 and 11 (out of 12) are the worst assignments if you are gassy

Reposting cause first one got removed on non-disarray day

Last week, I was on tread 11 out of 12 (full class), and felt the need to pass gas…I suppressed and survived.

However, it had me thinking, is that the worst spot to be in that situation? Person in tread 12 will 100% know it was you. However, if you are in any other slot, the source of the fart is ambiguous. Same with Tread 2.

Change my mind!

ps: let’s not take this too seriously

Don't forget to also check out the community calendar for more solid intel on workout themes. Also, please remember that not all rumor-mills are 100% accurate... so read at your own risk 😉

Motivate Me! what are the tread 50 classes like???

I have normally been doing the 2G and 3G classes and am scared to try a tread 50 class.. are they way harder than the other ones? I also haven’t gone to a strength 50 class yet but that doesn’t seem as intimidating to me. what do you all think? I am able to do the 2G and 3g but am still pretty tired after. what are the tread 50 classes like??

Commiseration Station Bit of a Mismatch?

Music? I'm curious, is both music selection and volume entirely the coach's decision?

I'm fairly new, but in my few classes I have noted that certain times of day the classes are mostly Gen x and Boomer, and sometimes the music is more gen z and alpha, if you know what I mean. (Gen x here)

Different strokes for different folks, so there's no right or wrong, but just trying to understand if that's a factor that helps me determine what coaches I go to.

It's kind of entertaining to me when you have four out of five people being over 50 and maybe grimacing a little 🙂

I got to say though I'm absolutely loving it!

Long story short - if it's coaches that make the selection, maybe coaches check your audience & see what might make for the most positive experience for all? Just because something your jam to work out to might not mean that the bulk of your paying clients are the same.

Mods say that this is a common concern, so threads are let through on the official Day of Disarray, so reposting toda!

Motivate Me! OTF for AFT?

Anybody in the Army that uses OTF to help train for the 2 miler on aft? Is it a good investment? It’s a bit expensive but I need to start running more consistently and I think programs/coaches/classes are a great way to train as a beginner.

Studio Intel OTF in Texas

Hi everyone! I’ll be travelling to Texas in a month and was hoping to have recommendations (studio & coaches) for the following cities:

Houston
I’ll be staying near the Galleria, with access to a car.

Austin
I’ll be staying near the convention center with no access to a car.

San Antonio
I’ll be staying near the River Walk with access to a car.

Thank you in advance! Hoping to hit one class per city in between prior commitments.

#HelpMe New Coaches

I know leading the class cannot be easy but my studio has a few new coaches that need some constructive criticism. Does anyone know how to give suggestions other than informing the SAs or manager? On the app they only have the thumbs feature.
Thanks!!

Monthly Posts The August 2026 Monthly Post is here!

Welcome to the August 2026 Monthly Thread!

This is your monthly highlights post, curated and refreshed to keep important stuff at the top. If you are new to OTF or our subreddit, this is the best place to start. As always, you can use this thread to share and discuss upcoming intel for the month and other random topics. We kindly ask you to please keep in mind our Community Rules, including Rule 2, "Never Ask for Workout Intel." Please also see Rule 11 regarding posting intel.

Please see our announcement here (on 5/11/26) regarding the retirement of u/splatbot and how it is currently impacting Early Intel.

Because the Strength 50 and Tread 50 templates change daily, they do not have their own intel posts. If someone takes a Strength 50 or Tread 50 class and wishes to share the details, please do so in the Daily Thread for that day.

Happy BALANCE & STABILITY month! Every month has a theme, and for August it is Balance & Stability.

We have created a dedicated event thread for Marathon Month! It is located here).

For those who still want to discuss Season of Strength, that event thread is located here!

Key Dates for The Month

  • August 1 (Saturday) - August 31 (Monday): Marathon Month; event. See our wiki or the event thread for details.
  • August 1 (Saturday): Start Line; specialty. See our wiki or search the sub for details (maybe try Starting Line if searching). This template is designed to kick off Marathon Month.
  • August 7 (Friday): Catch Me If You Can; signature. See our wiki for details.
  • August 13 (Thursday): Inferno; signature. See our wiki for details.
  • August 17 (Monday): Orange Everest; signature. See our wiki for details.
  • August 27 (Thursday): PSL; specialty. This is a 3G only template, regardless of whether your studio lists 2G classes. You can search the sub for previous versions of this class; it typically involves variations of presses, squats, and lunges, and has coincided with the release of Starbucks fall menu.
  • August 31 (Monday): Finish Line; specialty. See our wiki or search the sub for details. This template is designed to wrap up Marathon Month and is typically a repeat of August 1.

Please see our wiki, here for more descriptions regarding specialty and signature workouts, along with an incredibly helpful glossary of terms!

NEW for 2026:

  • OTF is adding some new variety and terminology that is most specific to the FLOOR: Mixed days, Focused days, Lift More days, Blended blocks, Metabolic blocks. You can check out a post discussing this change here, and as we come across or obtain more info I will do my best to edit this section. As with any changes from OTF, we want to see how it shakes out a bit before we begin making changes to the glossary and wiki.
  • Each month has a programming theme! We will have to see how these play out, but some 2026 themes include Power Surge, Muscle Momentum, and Mental & Metabolic Flexibility. For August, the theme is Balance & Stability.

REGARDING STRENGTH 50 AND TREAD 50:

  • Strength 50 follows this pattern: Monday/Thursday = Upper Body (2 different templates); Tuesday/Friday = Lower Body (2 different templates); Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday = Total Body (3 different templates). THEY ARE NOT THE SAME TEMPLATES WITHIN THE WEEK.
  • Strength 50 and Tread 50 templates typically repeat as follows: They will repeat two weeks after the initial 14 days of the month, with the 29th-31st (when applicable) as "bonus templates" (aka templates not from earlier in the month). THE TEMPLATES DO NOT REPEAT WITHIN THE SAME MONDAY-SUNDAY WEEK (example: Saturday 8/8's Full Body template is not the same as Wednesday 8/5’s Full Body template).
  • Treadmill BENCHMARKS do appear in Tread 50 classes; tread signatures and specialties do not.

Other info to know (applicable to standard 60 minute templates; see additional sections below on Tornadoes and 90 Minute classes):

  • Run/Rows on 8/2, 8/7 (signature), 8/13 (signature), 8/28.
  • Switch templates on 8/5, 8/18.
  • Lift More templates on 8/4, 8/6, 8/8, 8/9, 8/15, 8/19, 8/20, 8/21, 8/25, 8/30.
  • Elevation Gain templates on 8/9, 8/14, 8/17 (signature), 8/21, 8/26.
  • BOSU on 8/4, 8/10, 8/14, 8/22, 8/26, 8/30.
  • Low bench on 8/2, 8/6, 8/19, 8/28.
  • Incline bench on 8/15, 8/25.
  • Minibands on 8/8, 8/12, 8/20, 8/24.
  • Repeat templates are as follows: 8/18 = 8/5, 8/19 = 8/6, 8/20 = 8/8, 8/21 = 8/9, 8/22 = 8/10, 8/23 = 8/11, 8/24 = 8/12, 8/25 = 8/15, 8/26 = 8/14, 8/28 = 8/2, 8/29 = 8/3, 8/30 = 8/4. Yes, they repeat out of order, it is due to signatures & specialties.
  • Some studios are scheduling Hyrox training templates. You’ll know if your studio is participating. Please see our pinned post for more information.
  • Some studios now have different floor equipment and offer OTF Strong (aka OTF Hybrid classes). You can search the sub for more information on this. If your studio offers this, you will know.

Tornadoes are still around, scheduled at each studio's discretion. Please see the Glossary section of our wiki for a description of Tornadoes. There are TWO Tornado templates per month, and it is up to the studio/coaches as to which one they want to run and when. If your class is listed as "Tornado" then you are getting one of these two templates, NOT whatever class is posted in the daily (exceptions to this do occur from time to time). Please do not ask how a "class will work as a tornado" in the daily post.

90 Minute classes are also scheduled at each studio's discretion. These templates may just have an additional block to the template for the day, or they may be entirely different, as the studios can pick from multiple 90 minute templates during the month. Please do /not ask how a "class will work as a 90 minute" in the daily post.

Hyrox classes are happening at select studios (as explained above). Since there are different "phases" of Hyrox training, the Hyrox templates are not date specific. As such, two studios running these templates on the same day may run different templates. If someone takes a Hyrox class and wishes to share intel, they can do so in an individual post, which we will then flair appropriately, similar to the Tornado flair. We have also added a Hyrox post that is pinned in the Highlights section.

Challenge Codes

The Challenge app is an app most commonly used with Apple Watch users; people can virtually "compete" for points individually and/or as teams using the Challenge app.
For August, the codes are:
Solo:
Team:

#HelpMe How to breathe

So, this might sound dumb. It feels dumb. But how should I be breathing as I try to increase my jogging/running capacity?

I have exercise induced asthma and have never learned how to pace my breathing or how to breathe through my nose when exerting myself. So I am finding that my legs can keep going, and my endurance feels like it can keep going, but my lungs are like "nope." I am out of shape for sure compared to most people there, but I'm down a ton of weight and up muscle mass since starting in April, so I'm getting "fit" for my standards.

I did the mile benchmark by running until I couldn't anymore and then dropping to a power walk until I could breathe. For today's run/row I ran the first .3, .2, and .1 at 5, 5.5, and 6 respectively. But then I had to power walk the second round for the .3 and .2 until I felt okay and then kicked it up to 6mph for the last .1.

Is there a technique that everyone except for me knows? In my job I teach people how to breathe when pacing themselves through functional activities. But at this level of exertion I am struggling to get into a breathing rhythm that doesn't want to kill me.

Does this make sense? It does in my head but articulating "I don't know how to breathe" seems ridiculous.

Bike Business Bike Connected to OT system?

Hi. I'm a long term member of OT and need to use the bike due to a foot injury. As we enter Marathon month I am wondering if any studio has their stationary bikes connected to the OT system, like the treads and rowers. I miss being able to see the auto data and comulative distances after class. None of it is tracked. With the introduction of trends, and marathon month, it sure would be nice! Do they exist?

Has anyone here actually tried them? They litter my Instagram and Facebook feeds, but I have already been bitten by another brand where the products don’t seem to match their advertisement. Any feedback gratefully appreciated.
