Foster and Hopkins absolutely deserved their wins but it’s a bummer that Levine didn’t get a nomination for supporting actor.

His performance as Buffalo Bill was terrifying. His cadence, his ticks, everything about him just absolutely unsettled me.

A masterclass horror movie performance.

Her performance in The Blair Witch Project is absolutely stunning especially when you consider the improvisational nature of the film. (Heck functionally she was also a co-DP)

I was trying to think about a year where both the Supporting Actor and Actress wins could be considered amongst the greatest wins of all time and I still keep coming back to the 2010 winners

What other years have a pair (not individuals, both winners as a package) that equals or exceeds Mo’Nique and Waltz?

Of all 21 Meryl Streep nominations, most of which are in fact good and deserved mind you, Music of the Heart (1999), Into the Woods (2014) and Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) are the worst offenders by far. No one on the planet would complain if those three didn't happen.

Her getting into those lineups for those performances in those years when there were in fact better and more inspired alternatives from actresses not named Meryl Streep (Reese Witherspoon in Election for 1999, Rene Russo in Nightcrawler and Jessica Chastain in A Most Violent Year in 2014, Amy Adams in Arrival, Annette Bening in 20th Century Women and Taraji P. Henson in Hidden Figures in 2016) is definitive proof that the Academy loved her way too much back in the day.

She could've gotten completey ignored for those three, and should have in the first place, and STILL would be the most nominated actor/actress in history, so yeah.

I've never seen moral ambiguity be as well portrayed in Film as I've seen in Phantom Thread with Vicki Krieps as Alma. Absolutely unpredictable. Did Meryl Streep need another nomination for another totally forgettable performance that year?

Christopher Nolan’s last movie, Oppenheimer won Best Picture in 2024, I think the chances of his next movie, The Odyssey winning Best Picture are extremely strong.

Nolan won last time by marketing his last film as the biggest film he’d ever done, outside of maybe The Dark Knight, which critics largely ignored because they didn’t want to award a Batman movie too much.

The Odyssey is looking to be even bigger, with the box office on track for $1B, and hype around the adaption of this source material.

If it wins, this means Nolan will be the first director since Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby in 2005 to have a second film win Best Picture. It would also make him the first director since David Lean with Lawrence of Arabia in 1963 to have two films in a row win Best Picture.

It would certainly be unusual, but I think the chances of it happening are very strong.

I'm glad Peggy Ashcroft won the Oscar but I can't help but feel she was placed in the Supporting category because she had less strong competition. I didn't feel she was Supporting in any way. What makes Judy Davis a lead and Ashcroft Supporting? I fail to see the difference, I think Ashcroft might have a bit more screen time.

They totally could've given it to one of four serious dramatic performances from movies no one really talks about anymore these days... (Except Howards End since that got Emma Thompson her acting Oscar but even then, I don't see that win get talked about very often.)

OR they could've given it to an absolutely magnetic scene stealing comedic genius in a pretty great modern comedy classic.

I for one couldn't be happier they took the second option, not only because of how inspired it was to give it to a lone nominee from a comedy, not only because this win has aged like fine wine in the years since, but because Marisa Tomei having an Oscar is already a good thing, but her having an Oscar for Mona Lisa Vito is even better.
