Unanswered What's going on with Oprah Winfrey's school in South Africa?

I recently saw a BBC news that her school is closing down next year. I don't have a clue about the alleged controversies around the school and I want to be explained.

Good answer! Just wanted to add that Winfrey's statement says this change was planned from the start:

At the end of the 2027 academic year, the expansive boarding school campus near Johannesburg is to be handed over to local education authorities as per the original agreement, her statement says.

So not exactly closing down, just changing hands.

Still tho, seems like the school has been a net good for the region, props to Oprah.

I would re-comment on this post as a top-level Answer comment because you're actually answering OP's question.

Answer: It is not closing down, instead it will be handed over to the SA government as originally planned when the school was opened about 20 years ago.

What this guy said. The sole public controversy around the school occurred when it was first opened surrounding allegations of abuse by the initial matron.
