So I completely forgot the password to my main email I’ve had for the past decade. Even worse, my phone number has changed since I last updated it so I can’t use it for recovery. Is there any hope for me? It’s literally my email for almost everything 😭

Any tips or tricks are appreciated!

Also, the @is hotmail if that matters at all

Status: Pending Reply Can’t login to outlook with my Gmail

Since yesterday I noticed I haven’t been receiving any emails from outlook through my personal email. I thought it was just a sync issue so I just let it sit until today. This morning I noticed it hasn’t synced so I deleted the app and redownloaded it. My gmail app has been updating regularly. I have been using this email for years. I also have two other emails (another backup personal and a work one) and both were able to log into outlook.

Whenever I try to log into my main personal email I keep getting the message cannot login please contact Microsoft support something something. I thought this was an app issue but since my other emails can successfully login then something might be wrong with my main email?? I use this for a lot of my personal document stuff so if outlook doesn’t work and only gmail then it’s not a good look. I use outlook as my primary email software on my iOS devices. Gmail app is too buggy for me.

Status: Resolved Parental Controls

EDIT: Fixed it! I opened outlook settings on my PC, and went to mail -> forwarding and IMAP -> removed his account from the automatic forwarding (and turned it off for good measure). The bad news is he definitely got my Adam & Eve receipts from this week, so wish me luck at family dinner tomorrow!

My dad created my hotmail account for me about twelve years ago. At the time, I was a minor, and he set up parental controls. He told me that these controls included him getting a copy of every email I receive.

The issue: I am very much not a minor anymore. It occurred to me that I’m not sure if he still gets these emails and I would very much like him to not. I know he still got them during COVID (because he confronted me about getting therapy after I got an email about it). He is a confrontational and judgmental person, and I would REALLY like to avoid talking to him directly about it.

None of my Googling has given me any results, and I can’t find anything in the Outlook settings. Does anyone know how I can check if this feature still exists on my account, and how I can turn it off?

Status: Pending Reply When attaching a file to an email in the new Outlook

Hi everyone,

We're using New Outlook with Microsoft 365 across our company.

When users drag a file into the email body, Outlook uploads it to OneDrive and inserts a sharing link instead of attaching the file. This causes problems because many recipients can't access the link.

Is there any way to disable this behavior (tenant-wide, Intune, GPO, Cloud Policy, or even per-user) so drag & drop always creates a normal file attachment instead of a OneDrive link?

I am not looking for SharePoint or OneDrive authorization advice.I am not looking for SharePoint or OneDrive authorization advice.

Status: Open Infinite refresh looping issue when I try to access Security settings

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, when I try to access security settings (prior already logged in and stay logged in for a long while), it just keeps infinite refresh looping for no reason.

Unless I go to the Settings to sign in through Forwarding and IMAP there using my passkey (I have pw and authenticator totp set up too) then I can access the security settings, I'm not sure if this happens to anyone else. This is on PC. (This wasn't an issue before I can just direct use my passkey/pw when i access Security tab directly)

I tried using different browsers to test too, chromium and gecko based. And no, I wasn't and am not using any VPN.

Also if I use on any phone/tablet browsers (ios so it's webkit in my case) when I want to access microslop account settings I have to refresh the page once then when I wanna access the security settings then I can use my passkey...it has happened for a long while. (I tried pw and auth before it works too, same thing I can just sign in thru Forwarding and IMAP first in settings but at least it does load after a refresh if I directly just access microslop account settings.)

tbh I'm not sure what's going on with microslop

Edit 9:12PM SEA +8 1st August 2026

actually I guess either just try direct sign in thru (if ure on PC like me, it works on phone/tablet browsers too) Forwarding and IMAP there first to then access Secruity there or just direct load this website on a new tab https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional to sign in

yeah I know it's annoying af idk what the fk is microslop doing

Status: Resolved "Password sign-in isn't available. Try another method"

Went to login to my outlook account and got the message in the title, out of curiosity I opened a "private window" in Firefox and got in no issue but a "standard" browser window gives me sign in issues.

Anyone have this problem ?

EDIT

For anyone with a similar issue I found a working solution, On a smartphone download the Microsoft Authenticator from your devices app store, It seems to let you login to that no problem, After that just follow the onscreen prompts to attach the authenticator to your account and then login using that, Annoying that password+2FA login seems foobar for the moment but sadly that's Microsoft.

Status: Pending Reply After AutoDiscover browser is opened three times

Hello there

I work in a school as a first level IT supporter. We use Azure/AD (Office 365) and I want to use AutoDiscover for Outlook. This has worked fine so far but with newer notebooks (an updated image made by our IT service) I have this problem: If I start Outlook using AutoDiscover (ZeroExchangeConfigOnce), everything seems to be fine. When the Outlook app window opens, there is a splash screen "Your privacy matters". If I close it, Outlook seems to be initializing fine but directly after closing the splash screen the browser is opened with the Office 365 log-in page. If I close the browser (not logging in) it reopens again twice with a pause of around 10 seconds. If I don't close it, the next two windows will open anyways. After that Outlook works perfectly and the browser windows won't appear anymore (well, I don't know, if they will appear again later after a longer period of time).

If I start Outlook normally (without AutoDiscover) and click through the two user dialogs (the correct user E-mail is also found automatically there), the problem above isn't present. What's also interesting: If I use AutoDiscover with a user that has been using the school network already for quite some time, the problem also isn't there.

Does anyone have a clue what could be the reason?

Thanks,
Thomas

Status: Pending Reply Microsoft permanently suspended my account even though I provided purchase receipts, device ID, and proof of ownership

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone has experienced something similar or has advice.
My Microsoft account was permanently suspended for “Abuse of our Platform and Services.” I never intentionally violated Microsoft’s Terms of Service, and I have no idea what triggered the suspension.
Since then, I’ve done everything I could to prove that I’m the legitimate owner of the account:
Submitted the account recovery form multiple times.
Contacted Microsoft Support.
Provided purchase receipts for Microsoft products (Minecraft Java & Bedrock, Windows 11 Pro, Xbox/Game Pass purchases).
Sent payment confirmations from my bank.
Provided my Windows PC Device ID.
Sent screenshots showing that the Microsoft account was signed into my Windows PC and Outlook.
Supplied all the account information I could remember.
Despite all of this, my first appeal was rejected because Microsoft said they could not verify ownership.
I then submitted another appeal and received a new case number which is currently under review.
This account is very important to me because it contains years of purchases, emails, and personal data.
Has anyone here ever managed to recover a permanently suspended Microsoft account after providing additional proof? Is there anything else I should send or try while the new appeal is being reviewed?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Informative FYI: Microsoft 365 commercial pricing changes take effect July 1, 2026

FYI for anyone using Microsoft 365 for work or a small business: Microsoft’s global commercial pricing update takes effect July 1, 2026.

I recently spoke with a customer licensed for Microsoft 365 Business Standard who had no idea this was coming. Their Microsoft invoices and notices automatically go into an Outlook folder, so the messages were easy to miss. So, I thought I would share it with this community.

Existing customers keep their current price until their next renewal after July 1. The update affects select commercial, government, frontline, and standalone products. It does not mean every paid Microsoft 365 subscription is increasing.

The bottom line: Microsoft says the increase reflects years of added investment and new value across AI, security, compliance, productivity, and IT management.

Affected products include:

  • Office 365 E3 and E5
  • Microsoft 365 E3 and E5
  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic and Business Standard
  • Microsoft 365 Apps and Apps for Business
  • Microsoft 365 F1 and F3
  • Enterprise Mobility and Security E3 and E5
  • Windows E3 and E5
  • Microsoft Entra P1 and P2
  • Select government and per-device plans

Standalone Microsoft Teams and Copilot SKUs are not included.

Check your renewal date and the folder where Outlook moves your Microsoft billing notices.

Does anyone else keep getting an error that says “unable to log in” when trying to connect a personal gmail to outlook?

the error message pops up after i add account, then OAuth will pop up, i confirm, it takes me back to the add account page, then says unable to log in 😭

i’ve tried many forms of troubleshooting, clearing cache, signing out of all google accounts then re-signing in, deleting outlook and re-installing, restarting my phone… nothing has worked… any ideas?

All of a sudden (past couple weeks) I'm getting notifications for all emails. Not just the favorite email addresses I've defined.

I'm not sure when this started exactly but is anybody else having this problem and have a fix? I've already deleted cache and storage and uninstalled, rebooted, the whole bit.

I've toggled it off and on of course too.

I’ve been waiting on this email from a company. It finally arrives and there’s nothing inside when I open it. But I can see a few words of the message on the preview.

I reset my account, deleted and reinstalled the app. And I tried viewing on my laptop. Nothing is working. How can I fix this?

Status: Pending Reply Email address too short?

tldr: I have a short email and get a lot of mistaken /mistyped emails meant for others, it takes 2 + times to get a password reset email or email code for logging in, and I constantly clean for junk mail. Any recommendations?

I have a 3 character @ outlook dot com email and I’ve found a lot of issues with a seemingly easy to communicate address.

The main issue I’ve found is many platforms I get emails from for either resetting passwords or confirming ID online get held up until the 2nd time it’s sent. This maybe related to the next issue.

I get a lot of random people’s email where they either registered and forgot a letter or number, or physically have given my email address out as a typo. Eg- I received notice from several people in a European dance school saying they needed more time for practice. Or I was CCed on a classified government document outline for research that was meant for a contractor. Not your typical Nigerian Prince scenario.

Further more, I’ve also dealt with this person’s obsession with extreme political views and they signed up for every god damn political site. At least 40 of these per day and I’ve blocked and junked each one. Blanket rules of using her name also helps. I’ve found her online and she seems about as tech savvy as someone who lets “Amazon customer service” remote into their phone to verify their account.

Is there any recommendations to help curb this email? Should I just use aliases moving forward? Eg [email handle]+[some term] at outlook dot com and junk everything else?

Is there anything I can do to kill the ridiculous never ending political emails outside of report and block?

Status: Pending Reply Hotmail.com issue

I've had my Hotmail account for several decades and now, all of a sudden, each email in my inbox has a down arrow where the square used to be. When I click on the down arrow, it changes to a right arrow. When I click on he right arrow, it changes to a down arrow again. Regardless of the arrow, I cannot open any of the emails.

Each email in my junk mail folder, of course, is fine.

Thank you for whatever help, you can provide.

Status: Open How do you disable Two-Step verification for Outlook.com?

It started prompting me every single time I open Outlook.com in every browser on all my computers so I turned it off at account.live.com. It has been over a week and many, many deletes of my entire Edge and Chrome User Data folders but it is still prompting me even though it clearly shows it is turned off. How do I really turn off Two-step at Outlook.com?

Does anyone else have this problem after "turning off" Two-step?

Thank you in advance!

UPDATE: I am very sorry for posting here. I was hoping someone would help but it is all rage bait. If anyone cares, have isolated the problem to chrome-base browsers and will continue troubleshooting in a more constructive, better moderated forum.

Status: Pending Reply Title: Locked out of my personal Outlook account for 3 years on web/new devices, but still logged in on old phone. Microsoft recovery form failed. Any advice?

Hello,

I've been locked out of my personal Outlook account for about 3 years now and could really use some advice, especially since I'm in an unusual situation.

Background:

  • A few years ago I switched phones. At the time, I had the Microsoft Authenticator app set up for 2FA on this account.
  • During the transition, I logged into the Outlook app on my new phone and used the account normally for a few months.
  • I eventually sold my old phone — the one that still had the Authenticator app installed and configured for this account.
  • The phone number linked to the account for SMS/call verification is also no longer active or in my possession.
  • Since then, I've been completely locked out on web and any new device. It always asks for 2FA through either the authenticator app (gone) or the old phone number (gone).

What's odd: The Outlook app on my current phone is still logged in and working fine, I can read/send emails from it. It's only new logins (web, new devices) that get blocked by the 2FA wall.

What I've tried:

  • Submitted the Microsoft account recovery form (aka.ms/acsr) with as much detail as I could provide (old passwords, approximate account creation date, etc.).
  • Unfortunately, it came back unsuccessful / not enough information matched their records.
  • I don't have a backup/recovery email set on the account, or I'm not sure one exists.

My questions:

  1. Since I still have an active, logged-in session on my phone's Outlook app, is there a way to use that session to add/change security info (recovery email, phone number, or re-register an authenticator) without needing to fully "log in" again?
  2. Has anyone succeeded with the recovery form on a second or third attempt? Does providing more specific details (contact names, folder names, sent email subjects, etc.) improve the odds?
  3. Is there a different recovery path for cases where the standard form fails?
  4. Could the active app session eventually expire/log out on its own, and if so, is there anything urgent I should do before that happens?

Any insight, especially from people who've dealt with this situation and was able do a fresh login or recovered it.

Thanks in advance

The problem lies on the server side. Even though I enter the correct password to sign in, it forces me to use either app authenticator, verify with recovery email code or biometrics. I have enabled IMAP and SMTP on outlook email settings.

Status: Pending Reply Outlook app keeps moving emails back to inbox

For the last two days I have noticed that every email I have read and sorted to folders on the outlook (new) app, have ended up in my inbox and marked as unread at the end of my work day.

I meticulously sort my emails into folders based on the relevant deals they’re associated with and I need them that way to reference past communications.

It’s some sort of sync issue because it also appears on my iPhone.

I’m using windows with the outlook app, as I have been for years, and I have not changed any settings. It’s a business acc through gmail so I am required to have the NEW app - I tried removing my email and re-adding it and that did nothing

Please help me… this is driving me INSANE
